Why do the pros hate the mangler?

UFF, I love Prox streams, he travels the map like water in a river.

Because it rewards people who want to camp a corner, and punishes people that are aggressive. I understand why they don’t like it, but they shouldn’t ā€œnerfā€ it - they should just make is 6 shots with no reloads.

i think the br/mangler combo is cool. As for the easy melee combo, if everyone can do it then people will be more careful with their movement. Running around in groups would be less effective because you could get cleaned up with one ssurprise attack with mangler grenades and melees so the gameplay will slow down. i like halo when it slows down and teamwork is a lot more challenging. the mangler only feels llke a tier 2 weapon because we start with no close range weapon.

people love corner shooting. games like csgo are famous for it.

The mangler beats the BR at close range (as it should), and they hate anything that beats the BR.

They don’t hate it. They hate that it exists in three locations and is the strictly better weapon to have. If 3/4 of a team controls all the map’s manglers, it’s basically GG. On top of that, it outperforms both shotguns at their own task, despite spawning on the same pad as a plasma pistol and a disruptor - two weapons that are not even remotely comparable in effectiveness.

When a weapon is causing issues in a game, the balance method is never supposed to be approached in a manner of

  • well…it only seems busted because we don’t all have one. So the solution must be…give 1 to everyone

It has to make sense. For example…like precision starts in ranked across all halo games. In unranked, its noted how significant the precision weapon is, but it’s not busted because it still requires skill. So its safe to introduce that as a ranked setting.

In a case like this, it’s a weapon that’s too strong to be a loadout weapon with the BR on hand. Realistically we would hardly drop that secondary for anything on the map other than something like rockets.

Try to view it from this perspective, and perhaps you may see where people are coming from.

There is skill needed for the mangler still, but in some instances…this weapon can be abused, and the abundance of it would exacerbate the problem with the melee combo for example…its not a quick solution over people having something on hand to fight this off. The solutions already been made imo, and it fits the bill perfectly.

maybe the solution to keep it skilful should be one mangler headshot/melee combo. This kind of circles back round to how precision weapons should have headshot bonuses. Also whats the alternative to mangler/melee combo? the double melee is and thats the most skill less thing in the game.

Eh which ones hate it?

Guys like snakebite just want it to have a longer respawn timer last I knew. It comes back so fast that it’s easy to pick up the mangler off of any respawn basically and they treat it like a power weapon. It’s not uncommon for a team to have 3+ manglers.

If the game had every weapon working with a headshot multiplier when shielded then it’s possible that could be something to consider. It’s not all that hard to get a head shot in halo though…but…if there’s headshot multipliers then the crossplay becomes even more unbalanced as far as input advantage.

Attempting to change one thing can have a cascading effect and actually cause more problems than creating something positive tbh. I honestly do not see halo ever getting a damage modifier like that. Partly because it’s ingrained into the halo experience. The game is all about the shot per shot duel, and the expected kill with said shots.

Let’s let you spin the wheels of that thought process though. Lets say there is a headshot multiplier. Give some example of the SK numbers for each weapon on perfect headshots vs body shots with 1 last headshot on shields down . Then calculate the ttk of each weapon. Compare them…then consider…does it make sense for halo?

Destiny has this in it but it also has snail trigger, and tons of weapons, stats, you name it. Its actually the reason i couldnt ever fully get into it. I mean i played it a bit, wasnt bad at the crucible but it just has so many random variables like the perks, supers, how grenades work, etc etc. I mean for what it is, its great. Lots of people play it…but all i did was complain about how it isnt halo lol so i play halo.

Pros don’t like the mangler because Pros don’t like fun.

destiny has a million weapons so i imagine it does get annoying. I played splitgate, feels natural and easy to understand. shooting for the head just feels natural with precision but not guns with wide spread. people naturally shoot for the body with wide spread anyway so headshot multiplier should just be disabled for those type of weapons

problem with halo’s shield system is, you have to be in the halo club to know it. If youre playing for the first time youre never going to learn it until someone tells you. Basically, its like halo is gatekeeping any new players from competing properly in the game. With mixed skill lobbies, theyre going to constantly feel unwelcome when they face someone with simple shield knowledge. 343 should have a shield tutorial that youre required to play to enter matchmaking

This game has the academy and the training mode. A shield explanation wouldn’t hurt, but this halo is the first in the series to actually attempt and help new comers and prevent social from being the unofficial warm up playlist for the ranked players. Hasn’t exactly worked as intended.

I didn’t play through the new player stuff so i dont know what it actually has in it and what is and isn’t explained.

Do you all really not understand the issue with having effectively the Mauler’s 1tap melee with even better range combined with the ability 3 shot kill with a faster relative TTK at range? I don’t know what else I could tell you if you can’t understand why that might be an issue.
The sandbox is a complete mess and the Mangler is just a high visibility target.

Quick easy kills aren’t fun. Sweating over a precision based battle is the fun. There’s a reason why people do customs with only the br and only the pistol. It’s because aim is what we care about.

Social will always be the warm up playlists. I don’t understand why people come to play Halo to play casually. Do people really have fun mindlessly throwing a match?

I used to say this about the Halo 5 ablities. There should’ve been a in game video explaining it all works.

Over all there should be deep explanations on how comepetive works. But you know. Common sense isn’t 343s strong suit

You do realize that fun is entirely subjective right? The fact that Halo is able to deliver on fun from all angles is astounding.

  • Competitive
  • Casual
  • Social
  • PvE grind
  • Creative

It is called having fun in a video game. There is a reason I emphasized the word ā€œgameā€ there.

Except none of things are actually fun. The only time this game is fun is when you have a full team of four and even then the game is bad in general.

You said pros don’t like fun when referring to the magler but how is a one shot melee fun? Is it fun because it was easy? Are easy things fun to you? Not me. Hard things are fun to me.

Sniper > rocket launcher

BR > mangler

The harder the weapon to use. The more fun it is. The more skill it takes to use the more fun it is.

And that is your valid opinion dude.

You revel in the challenge of the opposition. Others revel in the power fantasy aspect of it all.

Myself? Depends on the mood I am in for the day.
