Why do tanks suck in halo wars 2 its so annoying

I own the ultimate edition so i have been playing for quite awhile already level 21. here are a few huge unbalances i really am getting annoyed with

first, tanks and wraith both get destroyed by almost every unit type, hunters can 4 shot them and with engineers being as they are its so hard to go tanks anymore. wraiths have a shield but literary die so easily. i want to be able to use tanks and wraith and not feel like theirs trash…

second, why is there no matchmaking for firefight and why are there no rewards, literarly wtf 343. you expect having fun to be enough for a gamemmode that takes an hour to finihsh at a time and expect no rewards at the end…how about you make it worth our time and implement an exp system like the first wave gives 5xp, second wave 10exp 3rd 15xp 4th 20xp per completion.

third, why don’t covedent have any anti infantry like have you guys tryed 1v1s you literally cant win vs unsc as covvy…and its all because covy have 0 good anti infantry.

fourth, why is there no matchmaking for campaign, i loved halo reach because when it was later at night and all you wanted to do was chill with randoms you could go do coop campaign matchmaking.

fifth, why is anti air so bad, if someone goes mass banachees and you have 15 reavers like you still lose because banachees can 4 shot a reaver and when theres 40 of them lol rip.

what i want…
is for tanks wraith reaver wolverines have a 50% health bonus incease and marines have a health reduction by 40% or atleast make it so covvy can beat infantry from unsc. remove the cyclopes no race should have mobile anti vehicle besides covvy

You have a few good points here. I’ll comment on a couple of them.

  1. Tanks are indeed bad. They either need to have about double the HP, or cost about 80.
  2. Totally agree.
  3. AA needs an AOE attack. AA is a good counter against small numbers of air but once air reaches critical mass it’s too hard to counter. Especially since AA is a hard counter - meaning it can’t attack anything else hardly.

I agree with most of your points and the above poster’s suggestion for an AOE attack for AA. Having splash damage from AA would require players to micro their air instead of having a giant death blob in the sky.

I will disagree on the cyclops, however, as they allow a hard counter against any mid game vehicle rushes at Tier 2. Late game, they’re pretty much useless, and they have almost no presence in early game, so I think they fill their role for mid game anti vehicle very well.

Even Grizzlies can get wrecked. I had a hoard of Infantry attack my maxed out base (watch tower and 3 turrets, with all base upgrades from armory), and they destroyed all of my 6 Grizzlies and base turrets. I only repelled them because I had a Condor being built in a minibase.

Grizzlies are great in that they can attack air now too, but they still seem pretty weak considering they’re 11 pop. and you can get less than you could in Halo Wars 1.

Scorpions are decent but still need a buff, but wraiths are straight up terrible. They need a major buff because (no exaggeration) can be killed by every non infantry unit, not counting cyclops and hunters.

As someone who’s been using a lot of Cutter – who I never used in HW1 – I will agree that I find it ridiculously easy to destroy grizzlies now. A bunch showed up against my all infantry army and I started to pull them back, only to watch my infantry wreck the grizzlies.

I agree with a lot of your points, but as for your 1v1 thing… I mean if you brute rush in 1v1 you win 85% of the time.

I strongly like the Cyclops. I find it to be a great midgame anti-vehicle unit. Without it, everyone will just go tank/warthog midgame. I just played a game yesterday where I was jackrabbit rushed, which was interesting (though surprisingly pretty useful), which could have really hurt had I not prepped with some cyclops.

Having AoE anti air would make an awesome upgrade.

I agree, 11 is too much. If they dont buff the tanks slightly maybe lower the pop. count to 7 or 8? Something needs to be done.

Tanks definitely need an upgrade both scorpions and grizzlies are worthless.

  1. Tanks really do suck. Wraith probably being the worse one in my opinion. I find the marauder better.
  2. Firefight needs to have matchmaking and at least some sort of reward.
  3. AA for both factions needs aoe or something. I don’t understand why air units can destroy wolverines and the aa mech.
  4. Grizzly could use a population drop, but I think the stats for it are fine at the moment. The grizzly is a solid unit vs anything outside of mass air units and hunters/cyborgs but they are the hard counters against them.

Infantry mixed with Wolverines works well. Infantry is a counter to air.

Tanks do what they’re meant to, kill hordes of infantry. They’re no longer the cheesy do all they was in the first game. Also grizzlies double as base killers.

But they don’t kill hord3s of infantry infantry does fine with grenade upgrade

I know Reach had campaign matchmaking but no halo has since. It’d be weird if they suddenly added it back several games later and for a spinoff.

Tanks are a little weak but…they are meant for infantry besides hunters which are an anti-vehicle unit. Also for covy anti-infantry…there are elite rangers as the ground anti-infantry and any vehicles should be good against them. Wraiths are weak compared to other vehicles but they are still infantry killers. Also, marauders and choppers. On the point of Banshees they are designed to be good against other aircraft maybe try the reavers?

Yep, tanks really suck but the should never be so strong again like in HW1

Well you seem to understand what units to use for situations, but you clearly do not understand how to set them up. Work on how you set up your units and where you place them. Tanks should not be front line, thats where cannon fodder come in place. If he is coming all air let him come to your base place the AA as safe as possible and also put up infantry infront of the base.

As some have said. You can’t really on the big guns to win. I bet none of you guys even upgrade the vehicles as I’m able to take on 3 grizzlies easily once I have infantry full upgraded
