Why do social playlist rotate ?

Why do the quickplay social game modes rotate in and out on a seemingly bi weekly schedule ? Is it a space on the H5 game engine thing or something altogether different ?

Certain playlist like core play, griffball, castle wars and action sack can’t hold a healthy population for more than a week or two. They are rotated out so that matchmaking quality is maintained and to keep the assortment of available playlists fresh.

So basically the bi weekly change isn’t a space saving option , it’s a strange twisted and not particularly well thought out version of we giveth and we taketh away in order to 'keep it it fresh '?

I have no idea if it has anything to do with space saving or not.

Playlist like griffball, action sack and WZ assault were dead with abysmal population when they were permanent playlists. The solution was to bring back low population playlist on a rotational basis in a setting where they could maintain a healthy population.

Players who have been around for the whole life span of this game can attest to how bad these playlist were and that the current system is a significant improvement.

I reckon I could accept the running out of space option better .
I know I’m more recent to H5 but I’m not sure rotating playlists can never really build an audience , in fact I’d bet it drives it down more or worse still people find other games that satisfy the itch.but regardless thx for the response . Cheers

It was actually carefully thought out. Playlist diversity is great in theory but in reality having too many playlists and not enough population to keep them all healthy results in problems. The reason certain social playlists are rotated every 2 weeks is because historically, the data of those playlists shows that after two weeks, most players stop playing these playlist. So you end up with an unhealthy playlist that can’t make quality matches and only serves to siphon players away from healthier playlists. Keeping matchmaking healthy is a always-changing process that requires careful balancing to make it the best it can be for as many players as possible.
The data shows that with rotational playlists, during the 2 weeks the playlist is available, it’s quite popular and healthy. And just as people start to lose interest and migrate away from the playlist, it’s rotated, so it never has a chance to get too unhealthy. It’s a logical compromise.

This thread shows how rotational playlists maintain a better population.

LOL , best joke of the year… i can say, i prefered to get team sniper 3 month with a low population than wait 3 months to play it back…

I know i might get permanent banned from the game but , there what i do to player who keep playing halo 5 … look all game except free-for-all…

playing a first game , making 2 kill on teammate than suicide 2 time… then i leave… i start another game , 2 sucides and 3 teammate kill to make them banning me… if i see my team is going to win if they remove me , i stay until i am sure my team lost… 343 have fun to make decision to lose player, i will help them to loosing more player  .

i just want a second list to play after i played some FFA game , i want to play team sniper ranked but its not here… so instead i bother player ( to annoy 343 and population).

Thank you, very usefull

I feel the population monitoring in this game is crap. Action sack is my favourite, I’ve never had a problem finding a match in my tenure, and it blows my mind that they can’t just leave it on

A better, healthy, and happier multiplayer population. The rotation helps the effort to try and keep every type of gamer happy and satisfied.

So it seems by trying to please everyone, no one actually is,? 343i has 12 - 18 months before infinite release with mcc/H5 mp expected to do the heavy lifting to maintain a player base,.

The rotation is an effort to please everyone in groups. Everyone gets a chance to play something they’ve been wanting to play. To be fair, MCC will do most of the heavy lifting once Halo Reach is added and MCC begins on PC. I suspect that the only people playing Halo 5 are those who are attempting to grind out 152.

My thoughts on mcc are much more subdued, yes a player spike initially with the Reach launch whether a 2010 revamp and a season pass can sustain the population for 18 more months is another matter entirely. I don’t want to come across negatively I just looking at on realistic terms, I think H5 and mcc will have to share the load (console end) but H5 will also require some love.

The PC crowd is very much unchartered territory, staggered launch may hold their interest.

The XP Progression system is coming back for Halo Reach and that same system will be coming to MCC in the near future. Earn XP within season to unlock all sorts of new goodies. I think 343 Industries has plenty of incentives to keep fans playing both MCC and Halo 5 all the way up to Halo Infinite’s launch. As long as 343 Industries has a team that is continually working on content and updates for both games, I think the population will be consistent.

It remains to be seen.
the progression system may be the key if implemented well.

I always thought grifball had a good size population. I mained grifball for about 8 months a year or 2 ago, always found games quickly
