Why do so many people hate on Agent Locke?

Like seriosly why. Agent Locke is actualy quit cool. If its because they think he’s trying to replace Master Chief that’s like saying Cadmon Lasky is replacing Jacob Keyes!

Isn’t it Locke? With an E? It’s not because he’s trying to replace MC, it’s because none of these characters fit in the story, or are we just using real life and turning on the people who helped us from the start?

I mean it’s a stupid concept to make the Chief a bad guy, but it’s 343idiots game not mine.

Comparing to the other characters that have been added, Arbiter, Rookie/Buck, and Noble 6, people probably feel forced to play as Locke and that feeling is mixed with a bias towards 343s actions (<- this probably is the biggest reason). In further detail Arbiter was ok to play as because he had about 1/2 the missions and it was around the time where playing as an alien or the enemy was the coolest thing ever, Rookie was the freshmeat you can’t not like him plus in a game called Halo 3:ODST you’re getting that game to play as an ODST people in halo 5 expected to play as Chief, Noble 6 while also within a halo titled game he was the badass, silence type that people usually see chief as, topped with no face and him being like an oni assassin on some hyped up team with a dash of emotional cut scenes you have to like him. Locke compared to the others took up basically the whole game when they weren’t expecting it, hes not hyped up the same way as Noble 6 despite him being almost the same exact person position wise, so to a lot of people if you just play the game and don’t do any sort of reading he’s got no redeeming qualities.

A: ?, it’s, quite, Captain, and Keyes
B: Locke is bland as presented in the game. He really has no defining feature outside of the fact that he used to be an assassin for ONI which is hardly used in the story other than just being stated.
C: The trailers (Which had little to no bearing on the game) set him in an antagonistic role with the Master Chief. People like the chief. We’ve like the chief for about fifteen years. A new enemy for him isn’t going to garner popularity.
D: In halo 2 the switching between the Chief and Arbiter was done very well. The two stories are meant to mirror each other in some respects. You play a level or two as the chief, you then play a level or two as the arbiter. The split wasn’t anywhere near as equitable or well thought out in H5.
E: A lot of us bought the game, expecting the chief to be trying to learn about his own humanity and search for Cortana (As in a continuation of halo 4) so some scapegoating is involved.
F: Nightfall was utterly dull, I didn’t watch in until a month or two after the game came out. I shouldn’t need to watch/read extraneous material in order to learn about the characters.
G: Much like the undue hate of Palmer (Though it is much more understandable in Locke’s case) it has taken on a meme like role in the community. In part due to dissatisfaction with H5.

“seriously” and “actually” as well

Locke is just bland. He does not present himself very well in the game, and he just seems to be a bit stuck up.

edit*
I thought he was presented excellently in Nightfall, but he is totally different in Halo 5

My apologies. They didn’t stand out to me.

He would have not been hated so much but after the new video of LateNightGaming the story rewritten over and over again and instead of working on Halo for 3 years but like a year and a half.

There’s a few reasons from him not standing out, no background in game, took missions from chief (which I never cared for personally being how halo is more than the chief), he didn’t really do anything in the game itself aside from stopping cortana from kidnapping blue team and he was portrayed as the villain to capture and or kill chief in the ads.

It is Thomas. Captain Thomas Lasky.

O I sought it was Cadmon thanks for telling me now I know.

Same reason people disliked Raiden in MGS2.

I thought Locke was pretty awesome. I hope he and Master Chief fight together in Halo 6. That would be badass.

He’s cool as a side character. I bought halo 5 to play as chief though, and I only got to do that a few times… I don’t care about locke.

Most people probably don’t like him due to him being a set personality. Chief, rookie and six were all characters with no real personality when introduced. This helped people see themselves in the character. Locke on the other hand was already given a story so it makes it harder to connect to a character already molded by previous experiences that the player wasn’t there to experience as well.

Yeah, I agree.

I love Locke but I can see why people don’t. Like people have said his backstory really isn’t given in Halo 5 which is very confusing. Issues like these have been common since 343i took charge. I don’t mind but for how important of a character that they made him, its unacceptable.

Locke, he has no character really. He is boring to me. Unlike his other teammates, they have an actual story. If you read Halo New Blood, you will read that Veronica says that he is ONI to the core. But he actually isn’t. So I was disappointed when seeing how he is like. That book made me excited, I thought “Man! We will have some cool always listening to the rules guy, or the serious guy.” But after watching nightfall and playing 5, I’ve realized he is not the serious guy.

Because they are MC fanboys
