Well?
They aren’t a fan of the settings Arena uses and Reach is general to the majority who know of it but don’t play it, isn’t competitive for them.
This is a matter of opinion, but mine is that it is too different from the base game and a W/L based ranking system instead of a K/D based.
Make it TUed Team Slayer with a K/D based ranking system, abolish Super Slayer and let those who dont like it move to MLG or tough it out, perhaps a super jackpot for the first two weeks.
Honestly there is almost no way it could preform any worse then it has been for the last 6 months.
The reality of the situation is that the structure of the first 6 seasons killed The Arena before it could draw interested from more than just the hardcore crowd. Ranking players based off of individual statistical rankings in a team environment changed the way people played in a very bad way. It not only promoted selfish play, but encouraged it. It even went so far as to reward you for doing damage to a team mate in order to make them easier to kill, and thus lower their rating in relation to yours. It also encouraged letting a teammate die in a duel just so you could clean up the kill and increase you own rating. The system was set up in such a way that it was theoretically possible to attain the highest “skill” ranking without ever actually winning a game. How a system so flawed seemed like a good idea to anyone is beyond me, but the same can be said for a lot of things in Reach. By the time Season 7 rolled around the damage was done. Most people decided they’d had enough of The Arena and didn’t want to give it another shot even when the system was taken back to base players purely off of Win/Loss. Some players came back for a few seasons, but with so many players already gone the talent level was watered down at all levels outside of low percentage Onyx.
A lot of true competitive players gave up on Reach a long time ago because its joke of a skill based ranking system drove away too many people to find quality games without waiting forever, and the True Skill system outside of The Arena is so loose that it might as well be nonexistent. The competitive players that are left mostly stick to custom games because they can play the high level gameplay they want on a regular basis without having to search for an hour to find it.
Because Sword Base is still in the playlist.
I could care less about Armor abilities. I perform just fine with or without them.
The Map selection is what kills it for me.
IMO its because while it has a better ranking system on paper, its not as accessible as 1-50 was. It seems like people cant deal with a system more complicated than a single number. Also the MLG list stole its thunder somewhat.
For me it’s not always the settings, it’s the people who play it. To be honest, I’d love to play Arena (or Team Objective for that matter), but I’m afraid of getting matched up with really good players and getting my -Yoink!- kicked.
I’d love to play Arena if I could actually find games within the century.
As it is, I can barely find games at gold level.
because i am somewhat afraid of being ranked badly, while another kids i know am better than them are lucky and got good teammates\connection !!
i play it though in dummy accounts
Bad maps/settings.
If MLG used a ranking system I’d be all over it. I don’t play MLG as 99% of the time it pits an organised team of four against four randoms with terrible matches as a result.
Connection quality is also often worse in Arena, seems to be a higher percentage of European and Mexican players in it than other playlists.
It’s not instant gratification. I don’t want to commit to having to play 5 games every day in order to get a rating at all, especially for something that is not actually going to stay for more than a couple months. Too much work for something that isn’t even going to stay.
1.Seasons
2.Ranking %
3.Broken maps

The point of arena is to get matched up with people at your rank…0.0

If there were any two maps I could take out of arena, it would have to be Sword base and Kingdom. Sword base is a spawn kill fest if red team has any brain power, and KIngdom is the only map I have ever played (when not laggy) that I get a low score. Its a very, very bad designed map.

Too bad It fails at doing that. I get paired with people I dance around while teabagging their perviously no scoped corpses…
No but really, any match I lose, I’ve either done terrible, or my teammates managed to lose while I’m going 17-5.

Kingdom is a great map. You should find reasons to dislike a map other than you don’t play well on it. That’s not a problem with the map; it’s a problem with your play.

No matter where you spawn on the map, if the other team is in the center and actually paying attention, you’re screwed. All paths to shoot at them are immediatly blocked off by any line of fire as there are only three ways out of your spawn.
Any path you try to take is easily naded before you can even get there, so it comes down simply to camping your spawn point and letting them come to you, innevitable you dying because they have the rocket and the sword.
Has nothing to do with the settings or how the ranking system works behind the scenes. The vast majority of players don’t care about that stuff. The reason people don’t play is because they don’t get a nice shiny number that’s easily visible to other players.
Because compared to 1-50 it’s Yawwwwwnnnn zzzzzzzzzzzz

So…make a 4 man push through your gold or green corners? Teamshoot the guy topmid, get control of a healthpack and grab the Rockets. (Sword is useless on a map as open as Kingdom.)
