Why do service tags have to be 4 characters?

I don’t get this at all. I can’t even cheat it to have 3 (keeping the same one I have always used) by using a space at the end. There is no reason at all for this to be forced 4 characters. Let people have 4 if they want, or just 3 if they choose.

I agree, hopefully it was an oversight and it will be as it was in previous Halo games.

I agree that people should have the option of using 3 or 4.

With MCC I was limited back to 3 so I used my old faithful 3 character service tag (H74 - I don’t remember how I selected that) but I prefer the 4 character one (HOPE - the last part of my gamertag)
