Why do people use "tryhard" a lot?

I hear it and see it a lot. If you think someone is “trying too hard” look at the MLG teams lol. I would only call someone a tryhard if they suck at the game but they try hard to be good like use the noob tube (hydra, boltshot,etc.).
But why do you use the term “tryhard”?

I was with you until you dissed the Hydra, the greatest weapon ever produced by Halo.

It’s another case of halo players getting salty at their opponent, I’d venture to guess that almost all players who say “tryhard” don’t agree that they shouldn’t be trying hard, they’re just angry at the opponent’s skill and only wishes the winning team weren’t playing so well. I know for sure that’s my thought process when “tryhard” comes to mind.
And also tryhards can be people putting all their effort into something like a custom mini-game that wasn’t intended to be taken so seriously.

I think that is what a tryhard is. Someone who sucks but tries every cheap trick to be good. But I use it as a condescending smack talk term for basically anyone who’s better than me ¯_(ツ)_/¯ lol.
Well, because it’s a dumb term, isn’t it? Everyone is trying to win, aren’t they? Who goes into a match thinking “I’m going to try, but not that hard right now. I got work tomorrow, can’t strain my thumbs.” It’s dumb.

And what about the Hydra? You got to lock on to a target without getting descoped, mind you. It’s useless if you get descoped. BR doesn’t have that problem. BR is is just 4 quick pulls of the triggers, scoped or not. It can be risky using that Hydra. If you get spotted, you’re done. (I’m mostly kidding, but I do like the Hydra. It’s fun).

Every one who is better than you is a “try hard” and every one worse than you is a “noob”… those are the rules…

Looks at MLG teams (even though MLG isn’t currently with Halo). Looks at non-MLG people acting the same way. Okay, so why should I look at MLG teams again?

A lot of times these “try hards” aren’t even trying they are just much more skilled than you and you feel like grunts to them. I have that feeling at times when I play the social playlist with my not so good friends. I mean yes they do try at times but I bet most of the times you are trying as hard as they are if not harder (you in this scenario isn’t you persay but X person)

Hydra op. Not dissing on it but it’s extremely op in the hands of someone who knows how to use it.

Yeah, it can be nuts. I played a BTB match on Basin and wracked up A LOT of kills with it just running back and forth to the spawn points to refill on ammo.

Speaking as the most horrible player who ever lived (which means I’m allowed to say it), it’s a lame “insult” thrown out by people who can’t accept that other people are better than them, so they must be trying too hard.

Which makes me laugh. I have absolutely no problem admitting that pretty much EVERYONE is better than I am. I certainly am not going to get angry at them for trying as hard to win as I am, I don’t expect them to stop moving and let me shoot them just because I suck.

Someone calls someone a tryhard once they realise that the other person is better than them, gets in a paddy, dis’s the other persons mother, blames lag, their controller or even faults the game, then eventually rage quits. Only to come back on the day later for it to all happen again. The tryhard cycle.

Sometimes it is lag or controller disconnecting.

because people think they are cool and hot stuff so they throw whatever insult is trending behind the safety of their tv screens

I use it for people who are just overly aggressive, like if I’m playing madden and a dude just runs up the score I will call him a try hard

I only use the term “tryhard” ironically. It’s a dumb term, making fun of people for investing themselves in something. I get that when people use the term they tend to be trying to punish unsportsmanlike behavior, but that term is so vague that the recipient may not even understand what it is about what they’re doing that they’re being reprimanded for. It’s not helpful.

this is part of why i dont play ranked anymore.

That pretty much sums it up. And you’re nemesis who is just as good as you is your new Xbox friend.
