Wrong at that level of play maybe?
You literally cannot trust the professional to understand the mindset of a noob lmao.
Players come from a spectrum of skill,
High level players only see what is marginally more good for them at any given moment. They make gameplay choices purely on what will offer the most benefit in terms of winning.
Mid level players make choices around their comfort.
They will pickup weapons purely on what they think of as “a strong weapon”.
They will grab the Heat wave because its a cool shotgun, and drop the sidekick because it was the Starting Sidearm.
Even as their running down a long range combat hallway with the enemy at the end with the Sniper or BR.
Low/Entry level players will just pick up whatever honestly,
Needler Spawn on Behemoth? Just as Good as a BR or Sniper Rifle.
Plasma Pistol on a BtB map? Sign them up boss, they are going to run right out into the Open and start spraying Green goo at the enemy.
Reality is most players are going to be at Mid Level,
They will prefer specific playstyles they are comfortable with.
The Argument that “BR starts also encourage variety” really only applies to the highest level of play.
Once you start forcing BR starts into players at lower skill levels,
Gameplay variety dies,
Because those players quickly realize just how easy it is to use the BR.
-Good damage at practically any range,
-Nearly impossible to Miss with,
-Its Mechanically so forgiving that you would be foolish to ever consider dropping it.
-Has this mysticism around it being that “MLG PRO” weapon, so they feel like gods when using it.
Like, aside from Dropping the sidekick pistol, for something else. (Noob mistake)
BR Starts are just too powerful at lower levels of play.
Lower Skill players will just camp a sightline the entire match and never move unless their forced too.
Again, you don’t represent the 99% of everyone else.
You need to check yourself, because you cannot speak on their behalf lol.
A majority of casuals don’t play at “your level”.
This sound like Trauma tho lmao.
Again, the BR isn’t hard to use.
Unless you’re fighting against FPS newborns,
I literally do not believe you,
Again Again, for most mid level players its about personal comfort.
Again Again Again, it just sound like you’re Equating;
BR = Better Player,
Again Again Again Again, Literally just reads like someone who is Obsessed with the competitive Meta.
Its not a healthy mindset to think about gameplay balance.
I’m not the 1%, the majority of people that you can possibly ask do not prefer AR starts. A number of them don’t want BR starts per se, but they know AR starts aren’t the way forward. There’s a healthy group that supports Commando starts.
I’m pretty bad at this game. Anyone worse than me is certainly dog awful. I don’t see how the actual worst players in the game can dictate how it should be played. I’m bad, but I’m being objective. And objectively, AR starts is not something most people who know any better like.
Better players DO want BR starts though, so evidently people that aren’t afraid of it ARE the better players. There’s no real way around that fact. When pros start supporting AR starts as the best way to play the game, then you’ll have an argument to the contrary.
An actually interesting kind of start would be sidekick only, that way every weapon on the map would be a potential good grab, as the sidekick does not know if it is a precision or short ranged gun and is not exactly stellar, but still competent, at either.
I wouldn’t mind that idea, but I feel like people would CONSTANTLY run out of ammo. The sidekick is good for about 3-4 kills realistically, and unless you were always moving over dead bodies you’d just flat never have anything to work with unless you picked stuff up all the time. And that’s not such a bad deal on some maps, but on others there aren’t enough weapons to cycle through that way. I think commando/sidekick would be a really good compromise for everyone personally
Hitting the nail on the head. A reliable weapon to start with is what makes Halo work - because a weapon like that ALLOWS all other weapons to actually -shine-. It’s WONDERFUL.
Tell me you’re gold without telling me you’re gold y’know homie?
Not the point I was making. Ravager is a good gun now yes, and it is one of the few guns that can still 1 tap - 1 melee, which does make it really nice to have.
My example explicitly showcases a situation where the Ravager isn’t an all too desirable weapon to have.
It’s RNG based. You can become more consistent with it, but generally speaking it’s… weird and busted. That headshot multiplier, quite frankly, ruins it.
EDIT: Before you feel like I’m attacking your baby, I have a list of changes that would improve the AR substantially. Because right now it is very much a Tier 2 weapon and should not be a starter weapon.
RoF Decrease
Damage Increase
Magazine Capacity Decrease
Wider initial spread.
Narrower full spread.
No headshot multiplier
Make it a more deliberate CQC weapon you aren’t nigh-crossmapping with that is NOT intended for use outside of short range… But make it slightly more deadly and consistent at short range. Something a BR user probably isn’t going to beat unless they get a perfect. Its final TTK with no headshots at 1.65s is great. (Check Aozolai, that IS the bodyshot TTK) - and it’s slightly longer than a BR perfect. So a BR perfect WILL win, but it HAS to be a perfect or the AR user who lands all of their shots, is winning that fight, which is very much how it should be.

Now that I’ve said it twice, maybe you’ll see it.
I know how to use the AR. It still isn’t good for the game. I’m Diamond. I didn’t get there by sucking lol.
Yeah Blood Gulch is awful without a precision weapon on spawn. Especially if it’s so faithful as to mimic the OG weapon spawns.
You’d get one BR per base, one Sniper per base, and two Warthogs per base, plus potentially a Banshee, and Ghost per base.
The team with the Sniper that successfully kills the other team’s sniper just wins for free.
Now if it had several BRs and Commandos littering the map it would be relatively playable. But they’d need at least 6-8 weapons at each base with a remotely competent range, and then more of those weapons littered around the map for the match to work at all. At that point you might as well just spawn players with them.
You’re changes are exactly what the AR used to be and it was worthless then. Infinite’s AR is literally perfect from an AR standpoint. The BR could use a couple of nerfs to fully prevent it from being the absolute power house that it is.
Also cross mapping does not happen with Infinite’s AR. I don’t know why people lie to themselves and say this. The AR has a max effective range that at its furthest goes our to the short end of medium range. The AR already has to compete with so many map weapons that outkill it at close range so its a dance knowing how close you can get to someone without whatever map weapon they have killing you. In no world should the BR be outkilling an AR at close range unless the AR user has never held a controller. I love that the AR helps keep the BR somewhat in check and pulled into the meta instead of it sitting on top as the utility weapon. I despise the utility weapon design so much, Reachs DMR was so OP i basically stopped playing MP and just did custom games. Then 4 and 5 were just not good Halo games (both fun just not what i believe most Halo fans wanted). Aside from minor balance changes, stability issues, and the armor unlock system i wouldn’t change the game at all (really want something like H3 where specific unchanging challenges give us armor and something like the Vidmasters and H5 Helioskrill challenges were a thing, all the armor in Infinite is just a time grind or paid and thats no fun). I honestly love Infinite’s sandbox a million times more than any other Halo games (for multiplayer, CE still has the best sandboxfor campaign [and campaign in general]).
