Why do people rush?

This is why, and this is what rushing is.

> In strategy games, to perform a rush, the attacking player focuses on quickly building a large number of weak units (or some very rare and potent early game units) early on in the game with the hopes of swarming the opponents before they can defend themselves;[5]
>
> - this is to catch them off-guard and often to cripple the opponent’s economy structures.[6]In the majority of cases, these units are fast and cheap to enable larger numbers and opportunistic attack strategies, but they may sometimes be chosen to exploit a particular weakness of the enemy.
>
>
> - The player who rushes may sacrifice options such as long-term resource gathering, defense, or immediate research up the tech tree to opt instead for a quick strike, usually putting the rushing player at a severe disadvantage should the rush be unsuccessful.[7]The rush is a risky tactic. If the rush is successful, then the player may have won the game or significantly set his or her opponent back; if the rush fails, then the rushing player may have lost valuable time and resources that would have been better spent on research, building defenses, and building more powerful units.[7]

From wikipedia, not my own words.

This should be a sticky. There is a baffling amount of ill-informed and incurious individuals on this site.

Personally I love it more when there are big armies…

But I have no problem with one rusher in a 3v3 game

I think in the grand scheme of things, this is a strategy game and rushing is a strategy.

Some people find it frustrating and even annoying but if thats how you play then good on you and it’s up to your opponent to out strategise you.

The problem is that instead of bettering themselves, a lot of people just throw around insults when they get rushed. The types of people we’re dealing with here are completely devoid of any spec or shred of self-responsibility. Try to argue with them, and you’ll quickly find that they live in their own world. They don’t value logic. And if someone doesn’t value logic, what logical argument would you invoke to prove they should value logic?

So they can win, because every win count to a totally irrelevant ranking system, even when it is totally a cheap win. Welcome to the wonderful world of online gaming.

Did you even read the OP, or just read the title and assert your opinion?..

Thanks for your painfully baseless opinion.

Oh, I totally though people are not gonna get my sarcasm. Anyways, to simplify my totally biased answer, people like cheap and quick wins. Make whatever you want out of it.

Don’t worry, people can always tell when you’re being sarcastic when you’re expressing yourself through text.

/s

Also, I don’t know why you say that you were originally being sarcastic if you’re just going to say the exact same thing without a hint of sarcasm. Why is it you think rushing is “cheap?”

EDIT: On top of that, he called your opinion “baseless”, not biased. Although, I think It could pass for both.

Sorry, I don’t mean to offend anyone, but I am sorta annoyed with Halo right now. To answer the question, rushing is a quick win, if succeed, which boost your rank . DOne it before with warthog rush and it works.

Why is this even a question? People do it to get a quick win, be a d**k, because they want to, the list goes on and on.

Yes rushing can be annoying if you are not prepared or expecting one but after you get hit with it a couple times you should be coming up with a strategy to combat it.

Yes it can make for a quick win but its strategy and can be stopped if you play properly. you opponent should not be forced to wait until you are prepared for a attack because that’s not how strategy works.

The whole point of strategy is to take advantage of the weaknesses of you enemy and if the enemy you are playing is the weakest in the first 5 mins then you should take advantage of that.

I know people dont like real world but if you were a general wouldn’t you rather get the war done as quickly as possible or let your enemy build a huge army that could make the war last a decade.

Also I don’t rush but its a valid military strategy like it or not.

Strategy! easy way to prepare is to always use scouts and you will know what your opponent is up to, just have a look at some starcraft 2 games

Another user that just title scans…

Maybe read the OP next time before responding.

Cool.

I read the op, and then the comments. Now you never messaged me, but - yea rushing is just a way to get a quick win for rank points. completely understandable in competitive games, because it makes you win. But in quick play games it’s just a jerk move to win, because while you should want to win, QP is for fun, not for try harding your way to victory. no matter how easy it is to counter a rusher.

But hey, that’s jus to an opinion, a game opinion /sold-outyoutubers2016

cough me cough. I didn’t know what a rush was until it was explained to me recently by a friendly forum member. I am slowly (painfully slowly) learning how to git gud at this game.

As long as you’re looking to get better, I’d argue that you don’t fall into the “incurious” category. The people I’m talking about are those that are so intransigent as to argue for their sub-standard play style with someone who has an undoubtedly superior view of the game. You won’t find any high-level players crying about rushing. Yet there is a myriad of complaints from inexperienced players. That alone should silence the argument. Those are the types of people I would call “ill-informed” or “incurious.” They don’t admit that they’re no good at the game.

What is your measure of a “quick game”?

Between you and a friend, I understand playing a more drawn out match if you’re just looking for a friendly game. But when it comes to online ranked play, every game should be played competitively. Friendly/non-competitive matches, that’s what unranked playlists are for (yes, I know Halo Wars didn’t have that, but HW2 should, as many RTS do)

Rushing in Halo Wars is most often seen in the form of a Hog rush, which while a valid rush, is pretty basic. Because it’s basic, any scrub can do a decent one. Because they are scrubs, they play it as an all-in rush. They don’t understand the fundamentals, but can copy builds.

What you are (often) seeing in HW is people abusing a strategy that they feel is easy to carry out with moderate success, but aren’t actually very good at the game. I can somewhat understand people seeing that as abusing a “cheap tactic” (I don’t quite agree, but I understand the idea), and not playing with sportsmanship (a warped, but not entirely unreasonable viewpoint).

So yes, I can see casual players having disdain for those particular people, but still, fair is fair.

And in the grand scheme, rushing/quick and constant harassment is how competitive RTS are played.

It’s a big risk but when it works its great.

It takes time.
