hi there
so i’m pretty new to halo waypoint, and honestly even newer to halo 4 multiplayer.and i’ve noticed most everyone seems to do this one thing in the neutral flag game mode that annoys the ever loving crap out of me
they play the gamemode normally, getting the flag and getting it back to base, but then once they get there, they just stand in a corner, or some other “protected” spot, and don’t score the point, until like a minute later when they’ll finally score the point. sometimes they’ll even shoot at me if i stand there and look at them.
now again, i’m admittedly new to multiplayer on any halo game, let alone halo 4, i could be completely clueless about why people do this, but to me it just seems stupid and it really annoys me
the only logical reasons i can think of as to why they would do this is either to extend the game to allow teammates to get kills or something, or that the longer you hold the plag the more points you get at the end of the match? (i’ve never done it, so i wouldn’t know if it’s true"
can someone tell me why exactly people do this?
It’s a problem that’s plagued Halo multiplayer for years. There’s no real reason for it other than to annoy teammates.
Those are the type of guys that love to be idiots. Word of advice, maybe try to splatter them or just kill them if FF is on, get the flag and score it yourself. They’ll get REALLY mad at you later and try to do the same to you. You just gotta be smart and try to avoid him. It’s possible he’ll also send (a) message(s) telling you… mostly toxicity, but they can get really immature. Simply ignore them, block coms if you wish.
However as to why they really do this, I have no idea. There’s no benefit at all with with just camping with the flag. It only affects the game negatively, in that your team has 1 less man, meaning less firepower, meaning lesser chances of victory.
Edited, didnt see “neutral” in op

yeah, i figured there was really no point to it, other than maybe to get more kills (another reason it annoys me because it only hurts my K/D ratio due to me being so bad at halo multiplayer), i’ve gotten annoyed enough to kill them a couple of times, but i don’t that often incase they can boot me from the game or something, i’ve also had pretty much my whole team turn on me before, because they were working together to do it. another time most of my team was totally annoyed when someone did it and helped me try to kill the teammate doing it. it annoys the hell out of me and it makes me get really annoyed any time the option for that gamemode pops up
but thanks for the info.
Its to get your KD up since its score based not time based. So they leave the flags till the end and verse the other team. It’s counterproductive to anyone trying to play CTF
it’s almost always been like that, it’s hard to change that

it honestly annoys me because it just makes my K/D ratio worse, seeing how bad i am at the game (i average out at like 4-6 kills per game, more if i’m lucky, but usually double that in deaths)
but i guess if these people are already doing one -Yoink- move they probably don’t care about whether or not my K/D is bad
It usually happens when your teammates are playing in a group together. Sadly, it so often happens that the flag-holder (aka: flag-hider) gets himself killed, only to then have the other team score and win.
Depending on my mood, I’ll either kill them and score, or just do my best to defend them when the other team inevitably comes. Occasionally the flag-hider I kill (and his friends) come after me, but then I have the joy of playing parkour with them as they try to kill me (and even if they get me, I usually get the added bonus of booting them).
You have to remember though that doing that is the way that they have fun. Just go out there and have your own fun (whatever that is) and even you have a bad experience, the next game starts in just a few minutes. Shrug it off, and get back to your fun
people like to stat. In h2 on bomb and flag, there would be an unlimited sudden death if someone was holding on to the bomb or even just near the flag. This prompted people to stat and keep the game going forever lol

It’s statpadding, a form of boosting where you don’t play an objective based gametype as intended by scoring the objective and instead exploit it in some iteration to grind up kills to boost K/D. Basically exploitation for personal ingame gain in a way the developer never intended. This plagues Halo: Reach’s Grifball Matchmaking as well as Halo 4’s CTF. 343 showed their stance on Farming and Boosting, which they are against, and hence makes it Cheating, and is bannable by LIVE’s Code of Conduct standards.
If you end a game after playing against people who do this, submit a player review and avoid them, then submit a report, Cheating being the reason as that is what they are doing through statpadding, especially if your teammates are betraying you time and time again to prevent you from scoring the objective.
Also in Halo 4, if a game ends quicker, you get less XP from gametime played, so between intentionally exploiting the objective based gametype to intentionally extend a game for more XP, statpadding, and exploitation of the objective based gametype for getting excessive amounts of kills instead of following the objective and killing as needed to do so (Which also gives more XP), it’s Cheating. After all, if you can score the objective (I’m not saying you, rather the people that cheat), then why wouldn’t you?
