Why do people like the Hunters in Halo 5?

I am asking because I don’t really understand? The hunters in 3/ODST, Reach, and 4 were good, they were tough but still a blast to fight. They felt like walking tanks, slow but powerful, they were good.

The Hunters in Halo 5 were way to OP. instant melee, and shots that followed you, (I am talking about the campaign of course) and took way to many bullets and even rockets. I would have to put the Halo 5 Hunters in the same category with the Warden Eternal and the Brutes from Halo 2, in fact, I think the Halo 5 Hunters are worse than Warden Eternal.

I want to get close, dodge and jump around them as I shoot at their backs, not hide behind cover and send my guys out as I take pot shots at the Hunters, that is tedious.

You may disagree with me, but I believe that Halo 5 Hunter’s are the worst thing to fight in the game, with Warden Eternal a very, very close second.

Dude I have no idea. They’re effective at all ranges and have no distinct counter. They are literally the worst enemy to fight in Halo 5.

Warden eternal is still the worst thing to fight in my books. I guess in the campaign whenever we fight a hunter we are confined to such a small space. E.g. argent moon and Sunaion. Therefore reducing the fun and putting limits on us.

Some things about the Hunters in H5 is good like them throwing grenades back but for me the thing that bugs me is the homing attacks…it’s like they can shoot down anything and shots follow players as soon as it get’s near them…it’s nearly as bad as the homing attacks on the crawlers, the grunt mech, Eternal Warden. Also noticed the melee system for general enemy’s tends to be bad since the animations are too quick for the player to notice in most cases, in some cases they fire from the completely opposite direction of where there aiming and suddenly an unrealistic shot curves and kills players sneaking up from behind. Pretty sure Hunters should not be destroying air units so easily since there easily locking onto them.

Hunters are definitely worse than Warden Eternal. Warden’s attacks are very predictable and can be dodged very easily, Hunter’s attacks however have no predictability with their homing attacks (rapid fire and fuel rod shot) and their melee is so spastic and fast that’s impossible to dodge since it occurs within a few frames, it’s also an insta kill melee to add more insult. The only reason why Wardens could be worse than hunters is that they are bullet sponges.

Well they kinda are supposed to be walking tanks, in all previous Halo’s they were kinda a buzz kill to fight because of how easy they are (by themselves) and that’s a shame considering they look so awesome, in Halo 5 they are a legitimate threat and do more justice to their back lore, I wish their melee would be a little more avoidable but I like the power you feel when they hit you, also mythic Hunters homing needs to be toned down.

On a side note enemies are not technically going to be easy to fight, a member of Isis isn’t going to use slower projectiles or a rubber knife to make things easier, same applies to an alien species who is bent on destroying you, I think it gives me more of a sense victory once you take one down.

I ONE HUNDRED PERCENT agree with you. I was just thinking that today while watching some Reach gameplay. It was so fun jumping around the hunters and trying to shoot them down. They were tough, but you could outmaneuver them, and I always felt like a badass trying to single-handedly fight two Hunters in previous games. In Halo 5: Guardians, it’s just frustrating.

As they are at the moment, they need a serious redesign in terms of the way they play.

Not sure I agree entirely. Hunter seem mostly predictable but their homing attacks are nearly impossible to avoid, same with the Warden, Crawlers, etc…
Wardens black hole attack is the worst because is in most cases impossible to avoid or counter and is an instant kill…no matter what vehicle tier the person is in, while hunters are just as bad in some ways, there fuel rod attack can look like it’s completing missing then at the last moment it decides to home on the player…which is odd because Hunters shouldn’t even have homing abilities.

One shotting and taking rockets isn’t new to them. Only issue I have is their homing, other than that, meh, same as any other hunter.

Previous Halo games, they were really easy to take down. Just keep spinning in circles around them and enough bullets puts them down and they’re just short of helpless to fight back. Their melee was always a one shot on higher difficulties, and so was their blast when they weren’t beams.

The only new thing is that they have homing weapons and that they’re faster.

And in the Campaign, every time you fought them you were given plenty of power weapons to take them down, and a whole arena to keep your distance from them.

The animations for the hunters could be a bit smoother and their kill-swings slower but its not that much of a concern to me. My main problem with them, is that they have homing weaponry which for some reason in Halo 5, every enemy in the game and their grandmother seems to have, which I find pretty irritating.

The only issues i have with them is in mythic firefight. They’re way too tough and accurate

People like the Hunters in 5? I thought they were universally hated.

By being “badass to fight against” do mean being complete jokes? In the previous games all the Hunters were complete letdowns. In CE, they got one shot, in 2 they got stun locked, in 3 they would never hit you with their useless beam, in Reach/4 they were only a threat if you went in close and their melee glitched and one shot you. 5 actually got hunters right for once. They swat away grenades, lead their shots and swap up firing modes depending on where the player is, can properly fight 2+ players at a time, and get enraged when their partner dies which properly represents the bond hunters have in the lore.

Their tracking really isn’t a big deal, strafe then find hardcover and you can avoid both the tracking bullets and fuel rod shots. And they are hardly spongey, take an SMG to their exposed back armor and they go down quick.

This is why

You share that in the failtacular thread; it was so entertainingly unfortunate!

That shows how -Yoink- they are, a Hunter shouldn’t be able to do that.

I can deal with most of the upgrades the hunters got; the melees are annoying, but not superbly effective, the health boost is annoying too, but I can deal with that. What I cant deal with are the following shots. They ruin the ability to sneak up on/confront hunters, and they are insanely good at finding you. It’s unreal how these things don’t even have to be pointed in you’re direction, yet they curve like boomarangs and take you down

I like the challenge of the new ones.

This is just me but… people can use lore to “explain” what’s been done to Hunters and people can argue over which versions were easier to fight and kill and why they were easier… or harder… all day. People can dissect their old strengths / weaknesses along with their new ones and compare notes all day, but in the end it comes down to whether or not they are (or were) engaging in a way that’s fun or if they’re just a tedious PITA.

Hard to kill or easy to kill varies from player to player. It doesn’t matter if they’re hard to kill or easy (to a degree) to kill as long as the engagement is enjoyable. Hunters in H5 are just a tedious PITA. Their only superior in that aspect is WE himself. At least the Hunters don’t feel like a “boss” as WE does. He’s just a tedious PITA that seems to multiply like bacteria, for little other reason than to spam you with antagonism. At least (to me) the Hunters seem to have purpose aside from that, so they feel more like they belong.
