Why do people like Escharum?

Monke

I have some thoughts.

Maybe they’ve been deprived of well written characters in Halo games for so long that they’ll eat up anything and laud this campaign as amazing and groundbreaking? :man_shrugging:

His dialogue sounded cringy and felt so forced to prop him up as some big-bad.

Don’t even get me started about his love letters sucking off Atriox! Each entry mentioned Atriox’s name in it or referred to him in some way! The bro just would not shut up about Atriox in his diaries; it sounded obsessive!

The only time I felt for his character was in his dying breaths, but that is more than I can say for any other character on team Banished. They went through the trouble of giving them all names and allow them to be killed off in game, unceremoniously, outside of a cinematic. Really!? That was especially disrespectful to the Elite Assassin! Too bad they were nothing more than Glorified-bullet-sponges.

The only line of his dialogue that I remember “Set a fire in your heart, Spartan” is some straight up corn.

Y’all wouldn’t know a good character or writing if it bit you in the behind, I swear.

I feel you. I swear a lot of the criticism I see is a bit low effort or does not engage with the content meaningfully. Like, you can not like how the writing and story are plotted out and executed, but I just ask that one would consider wondering why Halo Infinite is told how it is from how it’s cutscenes work, what themes are being established across the story (Trust, Death, Sense of Purpose, etc.), what information you have and what you don’t have. Like this ring, this campaign isn’t like the others. The gaps in information are purposeful, the way cutscenes are designed in lieu of big budget action scenes, why large set pieces are not as focused on. Despite all the changes in the creative leads in the studio, the campaign and story, to me at least come off as carefully composed with many threads left to follow. I liked the themes on display and I’m excited to see more.

Like I said, if that all doesn’t do it for you, that’s completely valid. It’s just many of the arguments I hear about the campaign could be a little more thoughtful.

Personally, I dont know. His dialogue just consists of “Ah Master Chief respect (long growl)”. I was more interested in Atriox tbh.

If chief did this, he would have left the pilot to die (like he should have and just went after harbinger, but then we wouldn’t have vehicles airlifted to us afterwards.

100% halo 2 jackal snipers are more menacing than esch

this halo had the worst dialogue of any halo i have ever played

long growl

:joy: :joy:

His growling is so cringe.

He’s just an old monke that is dying, and believes he was doing the right thing. He lost his whole planet because of Cortana and Earth, and the Brutes were always slaves in the first place, so they always had it rough. He was just putting on a tough guy act since he knew he was going to die either way. He was bored before Chief came along and it sparked excitement to him. It was nice that Chief gave him respect as a soldier as he died. He kind of reminds me of Thanos.

I thought the brutes in general were intimidatingly scary. That being sounds and visuals :scream:

Can’t wait to see what they do with the flood :sunglasses:

Did you finish the campaign on legendary? I did and oh boy, that was not an easy fight. I spent 2 hours on that fight alone. Just getting the rockets or another AR was near impossible. 1 moment of hesitation resulted in instant death. The boss fights in Halo 5 were easier compared to this.

Halo campaign villains, and campaigns, are always sub par. There’s never any tension, surprise or development. Bungie and 343 both seem to think that a deep voice and a hulking figure is all that’s required to be a main villian.

umm since when did the prophet regret have a deep voice, or was hulking

Sorry modern Bungie/343.

Off topic but this has bothered me. Did Halo Infinite rip off Destiny 2 btw guys? The intro with Chief being thrown off by a big hulking dude with a deep voice also happens at the start of Destiny 2. Almost a direct copy/paste.

that cutscene was a joke that jumping upper cut John gave atriox would have shattered every tooth in his mouth broken his jaw and neck, seriously do the people that make the cutscenes for 343 know how strong a spartan really is?

I will say this game made the Chief a lot more interesting. As a Metal Gear fanboy I’ve never been a fan of the blank canvas so the player can project themselves argument. I’ve always found it lazy. He finally has a little character to him.
