It’s terribly unbalanced, whoever gets the hill just destroys the other team, they basically already won, they have perfect cover, and they can defend it really easily, and everybody just ignores the center of the map just to go to that hill, i wish that hill was blocked so everybody enjoyed the awesome part of the map which is the center, it would be an interesting small version of Blood Gulch, what do you think?
I like Settler. I like having the hill as an objective - a necessary point to control. And most of the games on Settler that I’ve played, people on both teams recognize that, leading to a bunch of epic back-and-forth battles for the hill. I find it fun and fast-paced.
The couple of times where it has not been great was because one team (mine) had too many players who did not understand the importance of the hill and let the other team control it for most of the game. But in my experience, that is an infrequent occurrence.
I hate playing BTIS on Settler, imo it is way too small and unbalanced for an 8v8 playlist. It’s good for CTF though, I actually like playing on it in that playlist because it’s a lot less chaotic and people aren’t just sitting on top of the hill DMR spamming everything.
“What is ‘They like map dominance with DMR’s and a full team with microphones’?”
Since I am working on Light Rifle Commendation, I am at a disadvantage. It is quite painful if I am on a team of Randoms, and no one will rush the hill with me.
Worst one yet was half on top of the hill, and two others on top of the covered bridge and one in each base. That meant spawning in the open.
Settler is awful and can die.
Settler blows. You could drop out the entire middle of the map and no one would notice. It’s a AC/precision weapon campfest, I back out every time it gets voted for now.
Ye i hate it. every game i’ve had on the the entire enemy team just camps and the top of the hill.
But the game i just had was different about 90% of the enemy team was using active camo and just camping at the spawn or at the top of the hill.
I hope the active camo doesn’t get even more popular
Because lots of the people like it?!!
The Hill can be countered. There is lots of cover and a unified team can take or retake a the Hill.
The map has lots for everyone.
Vehicles
Sniping
DMRing
CQC in the bases and on the Hill captures.
There is a counter to the hill… It’s called patience.
The enemy team can’t hide up there forever. And if you try to maintain control of the Warthogs, Shotgun, and Incineration Cannon, you’ll find the enemy team will get sick of holding the hill and come running straight into your vehicles and power weapons.
It’s honestly no different than Valhalla in Halo 3, controlling the hill gave you a distinct advantage, and but if the enemy team was patient, they would bait your Sniper, take him out, then pick you off with their own Sniper until either you got impatient and started rushing, or they got a Banshee and made a successful push.
I don’t see the difference between ragnarok and settler. Both maps have central hill areas that once they are controlled, you can dominate the map.
Waypoint forums have been complaining that most maps and gameplay options disregard map control and choke points. Now that we have a map that has a strategic area to control, waypoint is complaining.
I don’t understand it. Settler is a good map. Play as a team, coordinate as a team and you’ll win. People vote it because they like it.
Because it’s nothing more than a DMR spam fest. The map is so mid-range centric I’m surprised it doesn’t pop up even more than it does. Not to mention setting up a spawn trap on either team is a cake walk if you hold the ridge.
It’s annoying as hell to join in to a game where your team is caught in a spawn trap. One man can’t break an eight man spawn trap, after all. Though, he can take a few -Yoink- down with him if he doesn’t quit.
I will say I prefer Settler to Ragnarok, I get sick of seeing that -Yoinking!- map.
DMRs, DMRs, DMRs, more DMRs.
> DMRs, DMRs, DMRs, more DMRs.
That really isnt Settlers fault.
I enjoy Settler sometimes. It plays like a big game of King of the Hill or Dominion.
I like Settler because it really induces map-control, strategy, and teamwork. The hill allows a strategic battle ground that takes a TEAM EFFORT to control.
With that feature, people who SPAM the DMR tend to LOSE the game, and for people who were unlucky enough to be on their team… Settler is ruined.
But if you work with your team, and if you use your BRAIN, you can DOMINATE and Settler can be a GREAT map.
Don’t complain about what you don’t understand, allow yourself to relax and allow yourself to think.
That’s all it takes for about every map: Relaxation, cooperation, and strategy. Leave the rest up to the game.
Because it’s friggin fun, that’s why.
I love it because it’s not some “uber try hard, MLG, 1337 pro box.” To me, if you go to ForgeHub for example, all the maps look the same; the only difference is the maze they have.
I wanna see new fun ideas to play on.

CQC at shotgun too, that’s where I’m at with my BR
When I first saw settler, I didn’t think much of it in the looks department. Turns out that didn’t matter cause I find then gameplay to be quite fun. As far as the unbalanced hill, in BTB Slayer I don’t find it to be a problem, but its pretty bad in Team objective.

So true.
There is so much cover than you can wait them out, and collect weaponry.
Sniper rifle, Incineration cannon, shotgun, hogs. Wait them out, and then start to pick them off as they get impatient.
Settler is a very popular DMR map, especially when players camp out on the Ridge. Plus that shotgun spot, which, IMO does not belong on that map, b/c players could just camp out there with it. I’m a DMR user, yet i try to move spot to spot.
