Why do people in BTB ignore vehicles?

So many times I’ll start a match in BTB, sit in the gaus hog and have to roll around for a whole 2 or 3 minutes before somebody bothers to jump in my gunner. Mind you my teammates get absolutely destroyed by the enemy hog over and over, enemy hog racks up 20-30-40 kills and STILL teammates are happy to just run around on foot and shoot at it with their AR’s? For real? Then I’ll drive back to my base trying to find a teammate just spawned and I’ll see our wraith still at spawn untouched, the banshee untouched, and a teammate just standing there meleeing one of the mongooses repeatedly until it explodes.

Is this trully what social has been reduced to? Why do people do this?
The fact that you’re playing Halo 5 means that some part of you wants to have fun and kill the enemy. You can’t do that by ignoring our teams greatest asset and by standing around meleeing your own vehicles. Just quit if you’re bored?

Anybody have any explanation for this? It happens so often.

I have not played Halo 5 in over a year I think, and I won’t be buying Halo 6 if 343i don’t change a lot, including vehicle damage. I never used vehicles in Halo 5 because they’re weak, or they were when I played, add that to teamates that destroy the tank because you got there first, and you see why players don’t use them.

This.

In the classic Halo games the vehicles were needed for both transport and offensive.

Halo 2 balanced the vehicles by including boarding and a set of rockets that the teams had to control to limit opposing team’s use of vehicles.

Halo 3 introduced equipment and missile launchers to further prevent vehicle spam.

Halo Reach went one step further and let you just DMR vehicles to death.

Halo 4 is where this balanced tipped though. Maps weren’t very vehicle friendly, anti-vehicle equipment was dropped in favour of stronger Spartans vs vehicles, and the addition of sprint made their use for transport useless.

Halo 5 suffers for the same reasons. Spartans vs vehicles isn’t as much in the vehicles’ favour as it should be, and sprint and map designs negate vehicles’ role as transport.

343i’s MP design has trained people to avoid vehicles in favour of a solo style of play.

It’s because the gunner dies too easily in the Warthog and a lot of people aren’t gonna trust someone driving them around that they don’t know. If you notice games where there is always a Warthog driving around with a gunner, it’s usually two people that are in a party together.

For your other complaint, I don’t get in certain vehicles because I can either do better on foot or it’s not worth getting in the vehicle because of the other team that I’m facing. It can also be because your teammates are below average people. In a lot of games where I noticed vehicles not being used, it’s usually the games where my opponents and teammates weren’t very good. Those are the games where it’s easy to rack up high kills in a Banshee for example.

Most of the time its usually because people tend to want to grab a power weapon or just warm up or go on a spree. I tend to just not go in vehicles because I tend to play solo and I’m used to being on foot. So I usually just help the team out by going for sniper.

Some people want to get first kill…

Or they wanna sneak around them but sometimes that fails

I just like to use the weapons that we start with and it’s mainly the BR

>Untouched Banshee
Sounds like you’re just a victim of bad teammates.

Because either the Warthog was shrunk or the Spartans were enlarged so that they’re practically spilling out of their vehicles, making them so exposed that even me - a filthy casual - can get a triple kill against a full Warthog with a Battle Rifle, all the time.

Because jumping and thrusting back while holding B slingshots me into the seat of an enemy Ghost, even when it’s clearly hitting me with the fury of a Greek god.

Because the Banshee is in the sky where it is at the mercy of ‘mid-range weapons’ with enough range to shoot enemies in the next star system.

Because the Mongoose is useless.

Because the Wraith… Actually the Wraith is okay. Still kinda annoys me, though.

Because aiming with the Scorpion is janky as hell.

Because Wasps bruise like bananas.

Because 343i thinks that the vehicle vs vehicle / vehicle vs power weapon gameplay that was an intrinsic element of older Halo games could not possibly have contributed in any way to Halo’s past success (Cough cough Halo 3 had 400,000 players fifteen months AFTER RELEASE use that as an inspiration for success at least cough cough) is better supplemented by the false sense of gratification given to players because they can - alone and on foot - take out a vehicle. Essentially, rather than actually balancing anything, and rewarding players who actually do the right thing (like using power weapons or other vehicles, or perhaps being an absolute weapon and miraculously solo-ing a vehicle on foot) the game rewards your average pleb (waves hand) with a false sense of success because they took out a vehicle while on foot, even though every element of vehicle combat is geared to make said vehicle a big, stupid target.

Probably.

You have just bad teammates.

Because ever since Reach, vehicles have been nothing more than screaming metal death traps. Its pretty easy to kill a vehicle with even a single plasma grenade

How can you say that vehicles are weak when it takes like the whole game to kill a banshee if you don’t have a laser or a sniper…
I agree with you for the land vehicle though (except the ghost), it’s too easy to kill the gunner or to eject the pilot and they are useless most of the time.
Heavy vehicles like the mantis and the scorpion are in the middle of this, they’re not easy to kill but if you outplay them you will destroy them 100% of the times.
Overall i think that BTB has become a more balanced gamemode in H5, except for games where a team controls all the weapons and vehicles on the map but it doesn’t happen that much.
Every map has the vehicles and the weapons/power ups to counter them and that’s how it should be. Of course if you don’t have any power weapon or power up that can help you killing a vehicle you WILL die.
That’s how it works and so far i like this mode.

P.S. for the teammates that kill you or destroy your vehicle because you got there first there’s not much to do unfortunately, a**holes are everywhere, there should be a heavier ban for those who do that than for those who just quit…

Like said (they were weak when I played). Things may have improved. I’ll take your word on that for now.

I usually run with a team because i can trust there driving instead of putting trust in a random that could potentially have no idea what driving is.

Probably because it’s too easy to kill people in H5 that are in vehicles. Soon as they get in…there usually dead pretty quickly. I’m all for team-work but it’s too risky, yet I always try to get in a vehicle in Halo 3 because it’s fun while in H5 it’s more likely to get us killed quickly. The problem is H5 is pretty poorly balanced for vehicle combat. I do try to get in banshee when I can because I’d rather use it instead of dealing with the infinite spam of the flip where nobody can get a hit.

Me personally, my vehicle combat is utterly crappy (Except Tanks) & My weapon combat is well, impressive…at times, but put me behind a steering wheel & you’ll thank me later

And mostly Vehicle Armor is like Paper

i geuss some people just want to play on foot

  1. Maps aren’t designed for vehicle gameplay: hint look at btb with no scorps nor phaetons.
  2. Vehicles are glass canons compared to the quickness of the Spartans. (It bugs me to no end that a mongoose can take 2-3 spartan laser shots while a wraith can take 1. Hell, shoot a wraith’s critical spot with an overcharged plasma caster shot and you deal 90% damage.)
  3. Gunners in multi-passenger vehicles almost die immediately.
  4. No one in halo reach, halo 4 and halo 5 touch vehicles off the bat in btb. (CE as well but that was more towards team killing than anything else.)
  5. Radar is incredibly useless with larger vehicles, somewhat with warthogs, and thus being hijacked from behind happens WAY to often.

  1. Agreed, in most cases it can lead to vehicle spawns being instantly killed and the maps are too small so it’s way too easy to nearly instant kill banshee’s as soon as there used.
  2. Yep the damage to vehicles is poorly balanced. It’s like some vehicles will be instant killed on a higher tier vehicle and yet a lower tier vehicle can take more of a beating in certain situations, it doesn’t help matter’s when certain AI are overpowered plus the weapons in H5 make most vehicles feel like paper mache.
  3. True since anyone who can pull a quick BR shot can kill them nearly instantly before they notice the spartan. It’s too risky to get in turret.
  4. I think Reach was more ok with vehicles because modes like team btb heavies were quite popular while 4,5 people didn’t seem to trust them as much.
  5. Yep radar is useless but it’s awful no matter what we do in H5 because it was poorly designed in H5.
