Why do people hate this game so much?

Personally never played it but all I hear about this game is that it’s terrible

There’s this phenomenon in life where you only hear about something if it pisses someone off. It’s kind of an off shoot of “ever notice how ‘news’ is by definition ‘bad news?’” Or also sort of the same as the squeaky wheel effect. That’s what Halo 4 hatred is. It certainly wasn’t the most popular Halo, but imo it’s a solid game and I still play it and enjoy it. Many of the people who didn’t enjoy it went on to make a career of letting the world know just how disappointed they were. Whatever. The only way you’ll know who’s right is to try it yourself.

I thought it was good.
Honestly, I’m pretty sure the reason most people hate Halo 4 nowadays is because they think it’s ‘cool’ to hate Halo 4.

Halo 4 was pretty much the Black Sheep of the Halo franchise. In Halo 2 and 3, the weapons were determined by the gametype and everyone started with the same equipment. You could choose an armor ability in Reach, but the weapons and grenades were still the same. 343 built upon this addition of choice introduced in Reach and gave us a lot more to choose from than just armor abilities. Primaries, secondaries, grenades, and even perks to fine tune our classes to our play styles. To someone who has played little to no Halo, (a casual, play for fun guy) Halo 4 probably seemed like a great game. However, many die-hard fans of Halo’s old arena-style gameplay did not like these changes. They felt that they added too much randomness to the game, as the loadouts made it more difficult to tell what your opponent had and was capable of doing. Furthermore, ordinance seemed to be entirely luck based. You could get something as powerful as an Incineration Cannon to something as worthless as grenades that you already have.

To me, these changes did not bother me because I play Halo for fun. However, I can empathize with those who didn’t like Halo 4. I play Super Smash Bros in a competitive manner, and I hate having items turned on when I play because of the wacky-random BS that it can cause. It really frustrates me that someone who normally couldn’t beat me wins by using something cheap like the hammer and then pass it off as a legitimate victory, but fortunately Smash has separate playlists: For Fun and For Glory. Although the randomness from items in Smash is much more extreme than randomness of loadouts and ordinance in Halo 4, it helps give me some perspective.

there is nothing more in halo 4 to make it bad!!

  • Increased range on all precision weapons- Increased bullet magnetism- Personal Ordnance in MP- Spawn with up to three Plasma grenades in MP- Horrible armor designs- Pointless ranking system

People can not accept all changes, especially if the change has parts of its fan base opposite. Personally I thought halo CE and halo 4 were the best.

Sure it had its downs but tonss of ups

The thing with Halo 4, was that it was a lot of change. From a visual and audio standpoint, alone, you could really see and hear everything that was different in this Halo game compared to previous titles. Weapons looked and sounded different, as did vehicles and characters. Multiplayer was waaay more of an advanced version of Reach’s, which is either good or bad, depending on how much you liked Reach. Kinda like what Rhydon65 said, it felt like the game was more meant to cater less to hardcore and older Halo fans and more to players that started with Reach, or were fans of other types of FPS games.

Perks, custom loadouts, and ordinance pretty much cover a lot of what is wrong with Halo 4. Blatantly trying to conform to the modern military shooter trend, no getting around it. Not even gonna get into universal sprint.

These things shifted the gameplay away from beng about map & weapon control where the outcome of the game is determined by which team controls the map better & has the better overall strategy, and made it it more about a bunch of people running around & the outcome of a match is determined by the culmination of a bunch of random encounters…

And the fact that you can choose what equipment you spawn with & what perks affect your character, the game is a lot less skill-based and a lot more random & luck based.

I hated the campaign but I honestly do enjoy the multiplayer. So I wouldn’t consider myself among the people who hate it. The campaign just told the story poorly, especially compared to past titles. I didn’t like their delivery, and the enemies they introduced weren’t fun to fight at all. They were annoying, and not in a good challenging sort of way.

Maybe that is because the plot twist by 343 Industries.

cough cough ordnance drops, and built in sprint… op’d weapons… weird ish graphics…

Why would perks smell like a freshwater fish?

H4 deviated greatly from the traditional Halo setup. As an individual game, it was very fun. As a member of the Halo franchise, many feel it was a little weak in comparison. That’s all I’ve really got for you.
