I never heard someone say that flood was there favorite enemy. All I did hear, however, was that “Flood are so annoying! Flood missions suck! Does anyone have a campaign save So i don’t have to play against the flood?”
However, I want to know if that is really true. “Do the majority of Halo gamers actually hate playing against flood?” Vote above.
From a gaming standpoint, the Flood levels were the hardest to beat, especially on Legendary. That’s where the “hatred” comes from, for they seem never-ending and you can never catch a break when fighting them. They’re relentless and annoying.
However, from a fan standpoint, the Flood are awesome. They’re an extremely original enemy, with various interesting forms, and the backstory behind their existence and what they contribute to the Halo storyline make them awesome.

This is exactly why I absolutely love the flood enemy. Even on Legendary.
Have you ever played the mission “High Charity” on Halo 2, and play until the last part of the mission, and then you stay there and hold your ground trying to defeat all the Flood that remain instead of listening to Cortana’s advice of leaving immediately?
I love doing that.
But thanks for giving me insight as to why people have hatred towards the flood

I respectfully disagree. I finished Halo 3’s Floodgate on Legendary in around half an hour and Cortana and Halo weren’t much harder either. Halo CE was generaly not that hard on legendary (in co-op, at least) and to be honest, I never played Halo 2 on legendary so I can’t judge that.
I would like the flood to be a bit more interesting to fight, and especially new forms, but its just that you generally are pumping alot of bullets into almost indestructible meat wave after wave which can get frustrating sometimes.
I would say the Flood is zombies done right almost which is they eventually fall apart by taking a lot of bullets, but a good bullet to the flood form in the enemy kills them much like a head shot to a zombie. The only difference is that another flood form can revive them unless they were scorched. I personally say i hate certain enemy the most when they are killing me a lot like say Halo 2 beam rifle Jackels lol so what im getting at is that i dont really hate them, but they are incredibly annoying at some times so its like a respected opponent kind of ordeal :3
> they dont die, they look stupid and they come in waves of 80 million at a time
> if they looked better and died more then they wouldnt be too bad
…well what else did you honestly expect from a species called “The Flood”?! It’s not exactly a name that was given lightly.
I don’t think they look stupid at all. They looked even better in Halo3, especially where you see a marine ransform right infront of you…But I guess that’s just personal opinion.
A single flood form isn’t that hard to kill. It’s the sheer numbers, followed by the fact that it’s NOT just a mindless horde, that make it what it really is.
Personally I think alot of people who don’t like the flood simply don’t know what it really is or how it came about.
OT: Personally, I love the flood and everything about them. I also think that the real threat they propose is not fully understood even now (Primordium touched on that).
I think it would be slightly badly received by the majority in H4 if the flood WERE there, simply because we’ve spent a trilogy fighting and supposedly defeating them, only to seemingly have 343 turn around and say:
“LOL jk, dey is moar!!”
(Also, yes; I’m well aware that there are more specimens out there on each Installation, and who knows what else beyond the Galactic rim.)
While Reach was a nice break from the Flood…I think the lack of them was one of the reasons the campaign didn’t really seem that great to me =/
TL;DR - I don’t hate the flood. I think they’re awesome. If 343 bring em back, cool. If not…doesn’t matter.
They are the center of the Halo Universe. Almost everything that has happened in Halo since their arrival has either directly involved the Flood, or indirectly caused the other factions to do something.
haha i hate the flood… But in a good way. i dont hate them because theyre frustrating, or cheap, or broken or whatever, i hate them because theyre disgusting, at times can/could be scary, and are powerful advesaries.
Halo wouldnt be Halo without them, and to be honest i think thats why i didnt like ODST and Reach as much. I was so hoping at the end of reach Noble team would get put on a final mission after wed lost Reach, and it would be a badass flood level. Imagine Noble 6’s death, but against flood instead of elites o.O
Lets face it the halo games were about the war between humanity and the covies the flood were bit of side story in all the games but very important part of the story aswell
Flood are easier to fight, if anything, than the Covenant. I’m nearly done with Halo: CEA on Legendary and the Library was surprisingly easy. Honestly, an AR for the Infection forms and a Shotgun for the Combat and Carrier forms, with a corner behind which to hide, makes the Flood one of the easiest enemies to fight in Halo.
I think the reason many people dislike them is because of how much of a jarring change they are from the tactical, considered Covenant. That and they were poorly introduced in Halos 2 and 3.
As has been said, they are an essential and pretty damn cool element of the fiction. I just hope the Reclaimer Trilogy makes them less like hilarious space zombies and more of a disgusting, horrific parasite. The Flooding of environments in Halos 2 and 3 were a step in the right direction, but there needs to be more biological and conceptually disgusting stuff, like bodies and screaming faces in the biomass, and sores oozing with puss.
i love the flood, they require totally different tactics to kill (ie cant be melee’d aside from halo 3) and are totally unpredictable. i also love how they swarm and attack in masses, i <3 flood
