Why do people hate Mlg??

Somebody please explain this to me??

“People” is pretty general. Everyone has their own reasons. But I bet you that generalizing is a component in most of them.

I am referring to this forums members.

Some do, some don’t. I have no problem with it, but I don’t like the importance members of the general Halo Community put on MLG, nor do I, as a competitive player, like being mixed in with them. Half the time I see “Casual vs. MLG”, where MLG is supposed to represent the desires of the whole competitive community.

I like MLG.
Watching pro matches helped me getting better at the game;I learned how to strafe, how to throw nades, crouch jumping etc.

Perceived elitism is probably one of the common reasons, then. MLG is an abbreviation for Major League Gaming, which prizes itself on being an authority on skillful play; there are players in their community (I can’t speak to how many or how few, just that there are some) that claim that being associated with MLG makes you a better player and renders your opinions about gameplay more valid (and it can be pretty insulting to be told that you’re having fun wrong).

As is common in all walks of life, there’s also the compulsory territorial guilds. MLG is disliked because they’re MLG, that otherness that doesn’t like whatever you’re associated with. So, naturally, you don’t like them back and you expect others of your association to not like them back.

I, as a competative playe, personally dislike MLG players, not MLG itself. (However I find this whole e-Sports concept a little odd) MLG helps Halo get attention, so as long as MLG doesnt interfere with the rest of the game I dont have a problem with it.

I learned a lot of new tactics from watching Mlg as well.

I don’t think there are many who hate MLG, what they hate is the way it’s represented on the forums. The pro MLG people who come on the forums often give the impression that it’s MLG or it’s nothing. You have people saying that MLG made Halo what it is, that without MLG Halo would fail, that if something doesn’t contribute to competitive MLG gameplay then it’s useless, that the developers need to make MLG the focus and I think this builds up a resentment in people. I personally have no problems with MLG but I do think some people have a habit of lording it up a bit. Personally I think both groups need to realise that they have things to offer, but neither group is more important.

I don’t hate MLG…I just don’t care about it.

I hate them when they come on the forums preaching self entitled elitism. Some of the competitive side saying that without MLG settings and a halo 2/3 style multiplayer halo 4 will suck is total bull.
So if those ones didn’t act like total -yoinks- people might view them in higher regard.

most of the poeple in mlg are going to be better than me

People hate mlg because they come to forums and youtube and stand up on a pedistool, say how THEY are true halo fans, how THEY know more about the game than ANYONE else, and how THEY should have top priority on how a game, made by some of the best devs out there, is actually made.

And then when they get flaked by fans they go " bah! Your all casual gamer so your opinions mean NOTHING!!" and generally can’t take another argument other than halo 4 has to be like halo 2 or halo is going to die as THEY are the true halo fans and apparently 343 has to lick their yoink or else they will fail horribly.

Im talking about the majority here, some are actually mature enough to realise a dev company can make a game by themselves.

I am referring to actual Major League Gaming pros. Not random competitve players.

The players who come here acting like that are not even Mlg players. Just mad kids.

Because people that associate themselves with MLG complain that Halo 4 isn’t going to be Halo 1 or 2. And other people don’t like it when people complain.

I don’t. I think MLG is a great community of competitive players, who will always come out on top if you put them against players in normal matchmaking.

I just don’t like their way of playing - If it were up to them, all Halo games would have BR starts, symmetrical maps, no AA’s, and snipers on the maps.

But that influences people’s opinions on MLG.

Nobody hates MLG, not even the people who think they hate MLG.

They hate the posers who associate themselves with MLG, cry blasphemy over any innovation to Halo’s multiplayer, and insist that anyone who disagrees with them is a casual noob whose opinion is automatically invalid.

Great answer.
