…in our current gaming gen where it’s now the norm for AAA games to have paid DLC within months of release?
Oh boy you gone and poked the bear.
buckles up
Edit: you’re gonna hear a lot of what the kind person below me has said.
Because I believe that paid DLC in the past has offered more quality content than the free DLCs do now. Plus, the DLC we are getting in Halo 5 is really just content that was absent at launch.
Imagine they didn’t make the DLC free, and we had to pay for these new updates, for the map remixes, few warzone maps and added req card. What if we had to pay for every new gametype, like the addition of WF and infection.
This has been asked and answered by a lot of people.
Clearly you’re not asking - your bias is quite apparent in the title of the post - but I’ll treat this like a real question.
I actually think it’s a great idea not to have paid DLC map packs. From what I remember, it split the community and the DLC-only playlists had terribly low population counts (somewhere in the 300-400 ranges for Reach, if I remember correctly. I didn’t play much of Halo 4.) So going for monthly updates, free ones at that, is a really good idea. It’s great, really. The problem lies in what is actually being released in the updates.
Gametypes and playlists present in earlier Halo games have been cut and then added post-launch in the updates. This is the primary issue. See, I wouldn’t mind if the game launched with Infection, KOTH, Fiesta, etc. and the updates brought us NEW gametypes, maps and REQ’s. To me, this would be great. I like monthly updates because it gives the community something to look forward to, instead of having everything all at once. The problem, again, is that the things they’re giving us in the updates should’ve been available at launch like previous Halo games. Also, some of the maps are remixes; all BTB maps are Forge-made (which some say is okay, others say nay) and a lot of REQ’s were stupid variations on pre-existing vehicles.
If 343 had released NEW and UNSEEN game-types; new weapons; new maps (alongside Forge made and maybe a remix); then yes, there wouldn’t be as many complaints as there currently are. But since the updates bring OLD game-types; remixed maps; useless REQ’s; and are quite slim content-wise - people complain.
But then, they would’ve complained either way. That’s just how it is.
At this point, I’d rather pay for a high quality DLC rather than the mediocre stuff we get today.
People just like to -Yoink-

Would you have paid for what we have received? I dont have a problem for paying for DLC but what we have received is junk imo. This is the first halo game that a majority of the maps I get to play are forged. Most of the stuff they are adding should’ve been at launch regardless. I agree the complaining is excessive but people here are passionate about halo and feel like they have been jipped. I think 343 made a wonderful game but they definitely cut corners. They knew from the get go they would have to add more content if they wanted the series to survive. Without the free updates they would be losing alot of money down the line.
I expect COMPLETE games at launch… Not ones that are ripped apart and re built on a time frame… You know like games used to be. I expect the next game I the series to have everything the previous game had and a bit more… NOT half or less than half of what we had in previous games…
People are entitled. They don’t take into the quality of something when it releases only the amount of features. I would rather have this game at launch than any of there FPS on current gen because I find it more fun. Quality > quantity…
free bad dlc is still bad dlc

The quantity we’re given doesnt match quality. If the dlc we were getting was actually good, people wouldnt be complaining.
Half the DLC we’ve gotten so far have been meh-tier forge maps and modes that should’ve been here at launch.
You know what, monthly DLC keeps me interested. New game types coming out is something we keep chatting about especially firefight - that will bring the band back together again. Though I do spend most my free time on the Division at the moment.
I’m just wondering what the point of this topic was.
This issue has been discussed to death, and bringing it up again, only to go AWOL on your own thread while waiting for everyone to get salty serves no purpose other than to troll.
Am I wrong?
What USS Galactica said. This topic only serves to relight the fires on an issue that most of the community has come to ‘agree to disagree’ on.
Alright, I think most people would’ve cried a little when they found out about the REQ system and the microtransactions. But I’m also reasonably sure that most people’s tears dried quickly enough when they found out that the microtransactions are the reason we’re getting all this free stuff every month.
Sure, it’s not much, but damn, I’m getting free stuff because some bums are buying tons of gold packs? I’m not complaining.
Just because it’s the norm doesn’t mean I have to agree with it.
Out of the 15 promised “free maps” the vast majority have been forge maps (despite the original claims of the community that "DLC maps are not included in the free maps). Which were should always be free anyway. Other than Warzone and extra (and completely useless) armours, I’m yet to see any content Halo 5 has that wasn’t available on Halo 3, Reach and 4. Griffball, Assault, Forge maps, BTB, Theatre, Multiteam, Infection, FF/SO (for reach and H4 anyway). On top of all that we aren’t getting the chance to extend the game with meaningful dev made maps. In fact the best map update has come in the form of community maps. Maps made by the freaking community, which again, would always have been free.
That is a huge reduction in quality and value not just of the post launch content but also the launch content.
Halo 5 was built on a complete new engine unlike halo 4 being built off halo reach. Halo 5 being built on a new engine means everything else being recoded and remade with it. Thats why it wasn’t all there. It wouldn’t of been easy for them to just make it all at once. Remaking these gametypes again clearly took them a while considering the new engine. Had it all been at launch we probably would’ve ended up with a 140gb game that would’ve ended up like the mcc. It would have been packed with glitches, bugs and everything which is part of the monthly updates bug fixes and patches based on feedback. Remember the armory glitch people did in warzone assault to prevent the enemy team capturing the armory? They fixed that this last update. Although this last update now has a problem of no music when starting arena or warzone matches whats up with that.
Now i know someone will say “why didn’t they just wait before releasing the game and out everything in there?”
That I dont know. Probably would’ve taken to long anyway possibly the same amount of time as we wait for monthly updates so I guess with or without halo 5 releases it’ll be the same i dont know.
Someone else is gonna ask “aren’t you the guy who can’t find any matches other than regular warzone? So how do you know about the armory glitch in warzone assault errrrr”
If i join my American friend then every playlist works fine.
