Why do people care about the store?

I’m disappointed the store exists in the first place.

$60 for the campaign, $10 per battlepass. The store has no right to exist.

Get rid of the store and give all those items an in game way to be unlocked.

Being able to make purchases is what separates some of us from the rest of the peasants.

Customization has been an increasingly heavily emphasized element of Halo going back to H3, so pretending that it’s baffling and ridiculous for many fans to take issue with how radically Infinite changed this entire pillar of the game around F2P monetization trends is pretty far off the mark.

I’ll go against my usual grain and note that I’m not mad about the store in that it exists. Although I don’t like that the game is F2P, I understand that money has to come from somewhere especially now that the BP gives you the credits back (thankfully).

My three main problems with the store are:

  1. The shameless rehashing of old armor pieces divided into bundles to make you spend large amounts of money for old stuff which was once free (Reach armor missing from the BP, Scout and War Master from H4/5)
  2. The inability to individually purchase items out of bundles (I really wanted the Celox (Scout) helmet but I’ll be dammed if I spend $12 just for a helmet with no care for the other parts of the bundle)
  3. FOMO through weekly rotation with only 4-5 store slots and then the armor disappears entirely for an unknown duration.

The store is only popular due to there being nothing else in the game.

No amount of protesting is going to suddenly make it all free and turn this game into something else. The game is out. Best they can do is a relaunch. The multiplayer is Free to play and is following the trends of other games. Having a 100% free multiplayer is unrealistic these days. You either pay the price upfront, or you pay in little optional bits.

We complain about the store we have because we know the store isn’t going anywhere and the coatings are here to stay (sadly). We complained about all the microtransactions since 2020. It is too late now. We are complaining about the stuff they can still change, not the stuff that shouldn’t be a problem in the first place. It’s been 7 months since release. We are way past the “they should have” complaints. They didn’t do what we wanted, we have to take what we are given and ask them to fix it, even if it is still bad, or just move on. Since we are here talking about it, we have made our choice.

They have also said they are working on cross-core coatings and select armor pieces. So why would we complain about something they repeatedly say they are working on. They aren’t going to work any faster. If season 2 is any indication they will just take longer.

It also doesn’t help that part of the fun for many fans since Halo 3 was playing dress-up with your Spartan. Sure, cosmetics are optional, but most games don’t let you go in-depth as Halo 3, Reach, and 4. Most you would get are skins that apply to the whole model, and that’s it. Halo never had to do that. They could have just done like every other game at the time. Just because an item isn’t essential does not mean it is important. They turned the most unique part of Halo into a cash-grab. It is scummy, but this is where we are at.

To be fair, the trend started years prior to Fortnite.

I don’t doubt it. Fortnite was the one I was most familiar with.

This has to be bait

Like as much as we don’t like how the store and rarely/never buy anything from it we should still criticize it as it flawed and reeks of fomo

Also the fact that we are seeing things pop up again says a lot for these “seasonal updates” like there was stuff from season 1 that never appeared but we saw certain bundles returning multiple times and with certain armor pieces being tied to it leads to people having to wait for them to decide to put it in

Idk if it popped in the store yet but for season 1 we never saw the cqb helmet which was shown in the multiplayer reveal trailer and that’s a helmet some people love and thats one example of stuff we know is in the game but couldn’t get for some baffling reason
