Hey Halo fans. I been pretty good at halo. I am a long time SWAT player who did fairly well in previous SWAT types in past Halos. In Halo 5, I am horrible. My aim is just horrific but something feels off with the aiming. I see lots of posts on AIM acceleration (still unclear what it is); could this be the issue.
I dont think there is any aim assist in this game at all. Where as previous Halo games had a little. Take off aim assist and its a whole different game. I think controllers need a little aim assist, especially with the super sensitive toddler analogs on the XB1 controller
aim acceleration defines the directions of the control stick as either “turn” or “aim”
when looking up and down you have a significant increase in reticle speed. however when looking left and right it is on a different speed setting
i had the same problem in SWAT (rank default platinum instead of diamond/onyx because of adapting) where i would turn to look or fire at an enemy only to not get to them fast enough or over compensate and look straight down/away from their head
beta aiming was Halo
current aiming is 3mlg5me (almost broken)
if they wanted to get into esports they should have dedicated playlists
leave the aim assist and PROPER aiming mechanics for the people that actual care about this game and play it for fun. no one cared about ranks before reach and tens of thousands of casual players had fun
now a few thousand “hard core” players will dominate while the casuals leave because its not fun anymore (aim assist is there for a reason, not everyone is as skilled as you sweaty folk)
Aim acceleration is a feature not a problem. Most likely you are having trouble adjusting to the 60 fps like most of the complainers of aim acceleration.
Honestly try to focus less on aiming with right thumbstick and more with strafe aiming if you’re doing that badly. You’ll get it eventually. My first game of Swat on H5 was garbage, but I adjusted and now its nothing out of the ordinary to get 25+ kills and single digit deaths. Keep at it

2007 Bungie.net would like to have a word with you. A lot of people cared about ranks in H3. There were endless debates, discussions, and interest in ranks.

THIS^
I have always been an above average player and have always played Halo on 3 sensitivity. It lets me aim quick enough and not -Yoink!- when opponents get close. I started my first few matches with sens3 and I was taking longer to get used to it. I figured the increased smoothness with the 60fps was messing me up. Switched to 2 sens and everything is all good now (Onyx and Diamond ranks all around). If you find yourself over accelerating while aiming, try lowering your sensitivity. I have suggested it to all my friends who are “having trouble getting used to the game”.
Also, turn off vibration. It’s just a distraction. If you don’t see the blaring red markers that you’re getting shot then GG. Vibration could cause you to -Yoink!- and flick the sticks. Just some tips. no h8 m8
Just keep practicing, dude. You’ll get better.
My buddy, who was leagues better than me in Halo, is now worse than me in Halo 5. It’s just a different beast, and the movement system definitely makes things different.
My best suggestion is the play through the campaign on Heroic, then again on Legendary. You won’t ruin your KD, but you’ll nail-down essential skills for moving around the environment and acquiring headshots.
Multiplayer is all about movement, accuracy, and being quicker than your opponent.
But yeah, the saying is as true as it ever was. Practice makes perfect.
I think I do so well because I’ve been waiting for a game where I can move around like this.
Self preservation is also very important.
