Why do I suck at the game suddenly?

Hey everyone,
So I’ve been going a Halo 5 grind lately, setting a goal to get to the top 1% of players. I was playing every day, constantly rising in my goal (my playlist rankings haven’t really changed). About 2 days ago, I just started to completely fall apart, and now I struggle to stay positive (both in the game and mentally/emotionally). Any ideas on why this could be and how to fix it?

Be a little more realistic with your goals and git gud

I’m currently in top 9%, every day I was ticking it down (got to 6%). It’s just an over-arching goal to get better. And git gud?

First up… you are probably just tiring (mentally and physically). You’ve been playing a lot of Halo… take a break. Freshen up.

Secondly you are probably approaching your peak. As you approach your ideal rank your K/D will flatten out towards 1.0 and your win/loss will become 50%.

It will take a lot more effort to then squeeze an extra few % out of your efforts.

Not everyone has the skills to be a Halo Champion Rank… just like no matter how much you train to run the 100m… not everyone can get to Olympic standard.

Thanks a ton for the reply. And I definitely get what you’re saying, I should probably just back off for a few days and cool down from it all, as recently I’ve been punching my table every time I die, haha.

You remind me of my pal Joey.

Yeah, take a break. Usually when I play for awhile, I start to just play poorly and miss a lot more and get frustrated. As you play a lot, you tire mentally, and your focus starts to fade, which really affects your aim and your strategy. You kind of “forget” how to aim, and expect to be able to get kills just by running into the fray. Especially when you find yourself getting frustrated, you tend to focus more on your frustration than the game. That’s when you know you need to call it quits for a bit.

If you take a break, do other stuff like go for walks or drives, spend time with your friends, go out to eat, play a musical instrument if you do that, completely away from video games, for a couple days, when you come back, you’ll be kind of refreshed, and more focused on your aim and strategy.

If its accuracy that’s the problem then just play a few games of seat. That’s how I do it.

1 warzone then as many seats as I need until I’m in 1st again

i agree with the break thing. i often hit moments where i just fall apart, start missing every other shot, etc. taking a few days off will usually get me right back to playing with perfect kills.

I’m pretty legit (see stats) and I have gone through similar things:

  • As others have said, avoid mental burnout. I have played so long that sometimes my brain in just mush and I become counterproductive. If you have been playing a long time straight and start having bad games, just stop for a bit.

  • Don’t play emotional. When I get mad, I get aggressive. When I get aggressive, I rush. When I rush, I get sloppy. When I get sloppy, I die a lot.

  • Play slow. Let the game come to you. Don’t try to be a hero, just take the game as it comes to you.

  • Every time you die, think “why did I die? what could I have done differently in that situation?”

Good luck.

today i was getting wrecked so bad i lost and kept losing in team arena so i went to war zone to get REQ point and i unlocked a legendary skin for the DMR i feel better now lol

It’s just a bad day man you know how it goes. You can be on a great streak for hours or days and just fall apart. I always see it as a good time to take a break. It’s only temporary.

Man the exact same thing happened to me… after reading some of the comments on here, I think I may take a break from this game as well for a few days.

I used to be good at other games but I really struggle with halo 5.

I am in the same boat as you my friend. 11 of my last 14 games have been losses, mostly from trying to push through Diamond league in Slayer by myself with randoms. Going to listen to the advice of others here and take a break for a few days.

Like other have said, take a break. If I ever have a game with a negative KD it usually means I’m too tired or distracted to play properly, and am probably ruining the game for my team. Break time!

Also, trying to be helpful, make sure you have a life bud. Halo is just a game after all, make sure you get outside, eat properly, and have a normal life balance. Got a friend who could qualify as clinically addicted to his PC, to the point where his dad unplugs his PC and makes him go outside, and he’s 24!

Just woke up and say all of these. And yeah, I’m definitely taking a break. I haven’t been playing all day, so I’ve had a life aside from that too, haha.
