why do i die faster then my enemy

we can be running at each other both shooting dmrs i hit with bullets we get close enough i hit my enemy with a rifle butt as we close but then they hit me and i die please tell me why. i make the first shot and the first rifle hit but i die first

so please tell me what im doing wrong

The other person shot with more accuracy and was a better player in that single scenario. Also you may have been getting shot by one of his teammates, which is something good teammates will do.

My suggestion to you is to attempt to engage with superior numbers; ie: one of them=two of your team, two of them=three from your team.

Welcome to Waypoint.

lag … they have host . your ports are not open so your up stream data is slow.you could just be bad not saying you are… they could be more accurate…as in you are getting body shots wile you are getting blasted in the head… but make sure you play with people of your skill level …this is found in custom setting and good connection you should be better off for it.

You could also be only downing their shield but not have fully removed in, where in which case, if they fully removed your shield, its a melee instant kill for them but when you melee them, you’ll only removing the portion left of their shield.

Make sure you break their shield before running in for the combat

To add too (totally forgot). If you’re playing shield variants. To be more accurate, go for body shots until their shield breaks, at that point head shots will make a difference vs their health.

Could it be the speed of your internet provider? I had that issue. Now that I have a top speed I still suck; but when I do get my hits in first I can drop other players. Hope this helps.

It would help if you could post a gameplay, so we could we what you’re doing.

Many of the above reasons. The best way to attempt to understand is to save the temporary file and run the fight in Theater, in slow motion using right trigger. Check all possible scenarios. Even doing this it’s sometimes impossible to tell if lag/latency has played a part or not. Although I got killed last week by a shotgun that fired itself, the owner was dead on the floor when it shot me in the face. Wasn’t sure at the time what happened, but slowed down in Theater and it became clear. It was one for the fileshare that’s for sure.

oh im sure my skill level is a part of it i have only been playing a couple months but its just so frustrating im learning for sure my internet is something like 1 to 5 mg a sec i never see a lag stutter on my end im not sure how to test for lag there should be test place on halo we can go to check for lag and aim like a little training center so i can see how my aim is and how to improve it if there is please lert me know thank you all

I can tell many reasons as to why you died in that particular 1v1 scenario.

  1. Lag could have played it’s part, be wary of blood shots.
  2. Your opponent may have been accurate, strafed to avoid incoming bullets.
  3. The shield mechanics in Reach are ret**ded, even if they have, say what, 0.0001% shields, it still takes 2 hits to kill someone no matter how much shield is left. For best results, strip their shield with bullets or plasma, take go in for the melee kill.
  4. This might not have been the case, but for future warning, be careful of double pummellers, noobs who think this is Street Fighter, keep a good eye out for them.
  5. I think you may have got teamshotted by another guy on their team, which is the reason why your shields were being stripped in a matter of milliseconds. Always keep a good eye out for them, run away if you have too, don’t be a hero and take on 2 at once, you going to get yourself killed otherwise, live to fight another day.
  6. This can be rare and I’m not saying it’s good behaviour, but someone on your team, similar to teamshooting, may have landed a few bullets on you, either by accident or pure intention, may have caused your early demise.

Look on Theater mode and seek out potential threats that may have caused you to die so quickly, learn from them next time you find yourself in a 1v1 DMR battle, I’ll guarantee you will get the better of your opponent. Hope this helps.

A useful tip, if you using a DMR, don’t spam unless you are close to your enemy, bloom will affect your aim the more you spam, after that, it comes down to blind luck. Don’t run straight to your opponent, be more strategic with your encounters, use strafe to avoid incoming fire, use cover if you close to dying, not only will this help your K/D, but you are also minimizing your deaths in the process.

The DMR is a 5SK(5 shot kill) weapon. Most good players do 4 to the body 1 to the head.

IMO it looks like when you melee’d the other player they still had shield, making them still a 2 melee kill, where you were already shieldless, making you a 1 melee kill.

I could be wrong, just posting a possible reason why you died in that situation.

Maybe instead of rushing in while shooting, try strafing, jumping, and ducking. Try practicing that 5SK too. Headshots are better than pummels in most situations.

This is not exactly true. In reach the bloom turns shootouts into sheer randomness. Your aim can be as true as mathematics, yet the guy spamming and hopping up and down may kill you first.

Could be lag, could be bloom -Yoinking!- you over, could be the other guy had better aim.

Bloom doesn’t make it random, it forces people to actually time their shots instead of spraying like an idiot. There are too many variables in play during a single firefight to determine that.

Go for head shots
