like can someone explain what happened to the promethean weapons lore wise, since the light rifle and the binary rifle switched places, the boltshot turned into a tracking br, and the suppressor turned into a better ar. Also why did the h1 ar change, it used to be like better saw, and then boom, slower ROF, also how did the plasma pistol suddenly turn into a emp device after h2? Or even better why does the splaser have only 4 shots while its h3 counter part had 5. Or how did the mantis become weak. They are all the same gun, but they are soo different from game to game. So is there a lore explanation? Or did one spartan had to find this out the hard way?
i dont think there is any lore for it. i think its just game balancing
Lore Wise, for the Promethean weapons-
When Cortana contacted the Domain after Halo 4, she managed to unlock new, previously locked, functions of Forerunner weapons.

so how did it end up in wargames?
because gameplay mechanics are different from game to game?
why do guns change from Final Doom to Doom 2016?

that would be because they need to train with the new weapons. you wouldnt want to train with an outdated weapon would you?
the army doesnt train with muskets, they train with m16’s (or whatever they use now)
kind of a loose example but you get the point
Human weapons: they changed them because they had a reason that I don’t know.

they wanted to make themselves weaker, because you know, why wouldnt we have an upper edge? thats just dumb

Side note-
I believe the standard issue is now an M4, due to the jamming of M16s and the fact that the M4 has a shorter barrel (better for close range engagements?)
At least, that’s what my AF friends tell me.

Double side note-
I have absolutely no idea why they decided to change to the M4. Supposedly, it isn’t as “accurate” as the M16, the chamber gets dirty more easily, and that buttstock does not look like it is sturdy enough for butt strikes. And, soldiers nowadays are trained to be accurate with semi-automatic fire, rather than spray with the automatic function, so the automatic fire doesn’t seem all that useful. Only real advantage I can see is that it’s shorter, but then why not go for the full weapon swap and get a bullpup gas-piston operated firearm with a 20" barrel? Eh, I’m just thinking too much into it, and I could be talking out of my yoink for all I know.

Triple side note-
I thought the M16 only jammed in Vietnam because of garbage ammo. I’m not super-gun-man, so I’m not 100% educated on it.
As for Halo guns, I like to think that maybe the Pillar of Autumn had ARs fitted with larger magazines that aren’t…physically bigger. Smaller bullets? Still doesn’t explain the ROF.

Halo CE Assault Rifle had 7.62x51mm NATO rounds. That hasn’t changed in any Halo games to date. So it can’t be bullets.
Killtacular side note-
The M16/AR15 platform can be jammed by pretty much anything. Got sand in your action? Jammed. Tiny speck of dust on one of the bullets? Jammed. Insulted your rifle because it can’t kill insurgents effectively due to the M855 round used? Jammed. Some of this is facetious and probably false, but some of it is still true. But yes, back in Vietnam, the ammo was garbage because the powder used was different from the testing powder, among other issues.

Don’t you mean overkill side note?
Real Killtacular side note-
I thought the Armalite platform was considered fairly dependable, as far as jamming goes. It isn’t Soviet-levels of dependable, of course, but I thought it was popular among civilian owners because of it’s consistent ability to cycle ammo. I’m probably uber-misinformed.
I wonder if anyone has taken the CE AR mag model and tried to fit 60 7.62x51 bullets in there…taking scaling into accountn of course.

“What’s a six kill” side note-
You’re not wrong, the AR15 is dependable, but their are some better options on the market. My brother just goes on and on about recoil operated weapons like the G3, meanwhile, I’m satisfied with a standard gas operated weapon.

Insulted your rifle because it can’t kill insurgents effectively due to the M855 round used? Jammed. Some of this is facetious and probably false, but some of it is still true. But yes, back in Vietnam, the ammo was garbage because the powder used was different from the testing powder, among other issues.

Huh. I’ve never gotten a quad outside of lucky rocket kills, so yeah, interesting to know this.

you can check the names on your medals screen, go to your spartan, click on multiplayer service record, then scroll down to medals, click on the “see more” or whatever it is button, then you’ll see every medal possible to get
The games use different versions on the gun. In CE, the AR was an MA5B, H3 had an MA5C, Reach an MA57, aka MA5A, 4 and 5 an MA5D. The magnum was the same way. CE M6D, H2 M6C, H3 and Reach M6G, H4 M6H, H5 M6H2.
The covenant used significantly older weapons and vehicles in CE and 2, that’s why Reach seemed to use more advanced weapons and vehicles even though it was a prequel.

> like can someone explain what happened to the promethean weapons lore wise, since the light rifle and the binary rifle switched places, the boltshot turned into a tracking br, and the suppressor turned into a better ar.
With Covenant weapons, it may be that there are slightly different models. The Covenant was extremely lax about classifying weapons, which may have lead to hundreds of different variations using the same casing and frame while functioning slightly differently. The Promethean weapons were a result of modifications to existing Forerunner weapons to improve them. Since Cortana’s formation of the Created, her Promethean constructs have apparently added tracking bolts to the Suppressor and Boltshot. I think that was stated in a Canon Fodder a while back. UNSC weaponry has changed due to the use of different models. The original CE Assault Rifle was the MA5B, while in Halo 3 was the MA5C, and recent games have the MA5D. In Reach, you generally encounter UNSC Army soldiers. The UNSC Army utilizes the MA37 Assault Rifle more commonly. The new Spartan Laser is apparently the M6E, while the original was the base M6. Most of the weapon changes are for gameplay balancing purposes. Most of what I have stated is speculation.
