Why do gamers these days need so many options

Am I the only one that doesn’t need to “play my own way?”

Why do so many games these days have a million options? I seriously have no clue why they include loadouts that allow you to change EVERY SINGLE THING.

I swear I must be the only one that doesn’t need to change every single thing, I would rather just be told “Specific gun gametype on specific map.”

To be completely honest I would have never thought that Halo would stoop as low as to try the “loadouts will definitely not be unbalanced” route(when we all know that there will be a god loadout, you can’t deny that, every game with loadouts always has one, no matter how balanced everything is), but I do understand that they need to make money, so I still respect them.

Don’t get me wrong, I am EXTREMELY excited for this game, but I do not understand why gamers suddenly over the past few years need all these options? What is the point?

To make the game easier.

I like to be able to play my own way. I feel that offering these customization options greatly reduces the monotony of playing the same game the same way over and over and over again. I understand this isn’t a problem for a lot of people, but I personally tend to lose interest if I’m restricted to a clockwork regimen. I find more fun in variety.

I’m also enjoy roleplaying when it comes to my Spartans (as dorky as that sounds), so there’s that. XD

Not everyone plays the same way. People like to be different and unique.

“Halo sure needs a bunch of perks and lame one-shot abilities added to the sandbox.”

So there’s less whining. Don’t like the default gameplay, well quit whining there’s a million other ways to play.

I’m not obsessed with having tons of options, but they are nice to have. Not only being able to have armor that makes you stand out, but gun skins are pretty great too. Gameplay wise, there are days when I may want the boltshot instead of the magnum, or the DMR instead of the BR(shocking I know), but with Hslo 4 I can atleast do that. We won’t have a team that is COMPLETELY identical. AND, the loadouts may help. Get your team to pick different weapons to cover all your bases: close range, mid range, long range. So, it has a team purpose too. And my guns can look awesome in Halo now. I’m fine with that.

Giving players choices is like opening pandora’s box.

They want more and expect more with each new title.

I think its weird that Halo 4 gives players tons of options for one thing and then no options for other things. We get all these custom loadouts and specializations… but then at the same time we get no Assault or classic CTF (even in customs).

I dislike it. It creates an unlevel playing field. How do you know if you are a better player? Maybe you would of won if the other guy didn’t have a certain perk. Call of duty basically killed competitive gaming because of things like this. All the great shooters used to have default options and you actually knew you were better when you won. Now if you lose is it because of lag, perk, weapon or skill. Hate it honestly.

Then play the competitive playlist.

Because most of the “gamers” nowadays are posers that never evolved from the Mario Cart/Pokemon type games and think mindless fun is what AAA core games should strive to be lol.

I just started playing some oldschool Halo+CS again, and holy -Yoink- I can not tell you how much better it is. Why did I ever leave the games I loved behind for this compromised BS.

the more capabilities something has. the more will be done with it. if we keep getting more as games improve then we will expect that to continue to increase with every iteration of it. granted. id be okay without the massive amounts of stuff to customize. but at the same time im pretty happy i get to look the way i want. H3 i had a sword on my back cuz it looked cool. and in reach i have a skull. mostly cuz i can. but still. i agree with you but still think that its nice to look the way i want to look. OOH. also. it gives people like me more ideas when fantasizing about cosplay outfits.

Your forum name is appropriate…

> Why do so many games these days have a million options? I seriously have no clue why they include loadouts that allow you to change EVERY SINGLE THING.

Because its fun for people.

Halo 4 is going to have “specific gun gametype on specific map”.

At least you can respect them. This is something I can respect about you. However, loadouts is not what you should be worried about. It’s what can come next after this?

Customizations rule now. No different then skilled combat ruled with us. We never needed anything back then and technically speaking, we still don’t, but this is only the expansion of what was always going to evolve. We knew the franchise would do this when the first game was called Combat Evolved. Halo’s creators set their standards high and aimed for the top. They achieved that. 343 is here now and we’ll see how far they can push the franchise. I for one, will be sticking around and I hope you can say the same.

i agree with that completely. but i gotta make my claim as one of the gamers that evolved from playing doom, duke nukem, and demolition man when i was about 4 years old. and though i didnt get the whole N64 era. i did play more spyro and crash bandicoot than is anywhere near healthy

Really idk, that’s kind of like asking why halo has more than one weapon, these guys haul around half a ton of armor how could none of that be utility.

Take a look at my topic:

Loadouts guide

It’s not like one loadout will be the best for every game… Certain loadouts work well for certain maps and gametypes. Those certain loadouts will also perform poorly on other maps and gametypes. Since loadouts have to be unlocked, some people won’t have the opportunity to be adaptive as other players that have more options unlocked. This incites people to have more of a ‘need’ to play the game and such conditions causes games like that to sell well. CoD would be the proof of that.

Once a majority of people have most of the loadout options unlocked the game won’t be so “unfair”. Having a disadvantage at that point will just be a failure to adapt.

Ha, it’s not a unlevel playing field. You can have the exact same -Yoink- the other guy has or you can use the stuff that fits you best. The whole “Unlevel playing field” -Yoink- is just some weak excuse for “Proz” getting their -Yoinks!- handed to them in loadout based games.

And news flash, Arma and Battlefield ARE some of the best shooters ever to exist, much better than Halo, and guess what? They have loadouts!!

Lag has nothing to do with loadouts. And any true competitive match is held at a event to minimize Lag and make sure no one has modded controllers and -Yoink- like that.

I like games where you can choose certain things and set up how you play, but I liked Halo for the exact opposite reason. Everyone had equal footing and had to earn their power ups or weapons. It’s sad to see that Halo is conforming to “what is popular”.
