Why do 343 feel the need to "reinvent the wheel"? Stick to the classic game modes and approach, prioritise player satisfaction rather than SBMM

There are so many examples where 343’s multiplayer decision making baffles me. If they just had the MCC matchmaking browser, server select, and classic gametypes this game would be so much more fun.

1. Team snipers - why is it always shotty snipers? Why is there a skewer mode? Why is there a radar? Team snipers should be just you and your sniper, with the odd shotty snipers thrown in. There should be no radar. No manglers. No skewer. Why mess with a classic beloved gamemode?

  1. Tactical slayer - why are there 101 different variants? Commando? Mangler? Stalker? I just want BR swat like the good old days, maybe the odd sidekick would be okay as one variant. Again, trying to reinvent a classic gamemode that people used to love.

  2. FFA - why is there no actual FFA playlist? You used to have this. It was competitive and fun. Now we have rumble pit only with a load of random sword and grapple games, oddball vampire games (what?) and I don’t know what else. Why can we not just have a standard 6 player lone wolves/ffa game mode? If people want to fly around with swords and grapples bring in action sack or they can go to custom games.

  3. Team doubles - erm, where is this? We are nearly a year into release.

  4. Matchmaking / ping / server select - why am I being forced, during the middle of the day in EU, onto 90-250ms servers? This is actually moronic. Just let me play EU servers or something remotely playable rather than forcing me onto Australian and American servers.

  5. Anti-fun ranking system - How can you conclude a system whereby someone can win and gain nothing is ever fun? True competitive play exists, for pros, in the form of competitions. For everyone else your priority should be making something actually fun and rewarding, whilst maintaining some competitiveness. As it stands I cannot play ranked with my slightly weaker friends as they simply gain nothing when we win. Look at Apex - the most popular FPS on the market right now I expect - the ranking system allows the whole team to gain rank by winning / doing well. This promotes playing with your friends which is a good thing!

  6. Matchmaking browser - MCC style - this was an amazing feature, allowing people to browse only the gametypes they wanted. Why on earth did you roll this back?

  7. Service record - come on guys, basic stuff. Why cant I see friends/teammates/enemies rank, KD etc? When did we stop caring about the basics?

I could go on for hours, but honestly, fix these above points and I feel the game would be in a 1000% better place.

At least some dialogue as to why these things have changed?

They think they are reinventing the wheel, when all they are doing is showing themselves the other caveman who made the square “wheels”…Going nowhere fast. Pondering how they can further gaslight the already existing dumpster fire that is this incomplete software occupying my hard drive space.

Yeah I have no idea why they want to change so much,

Like they have MCC to fall back on for ideas for game types (That everyone can agrees should have been in infinite from day 1) its just baffling me as to why they are taking so long and want to add silly things rather than the core game types everyone knows and loves

I agree 100%, 343 needs to sto changing things for the sake of changing

343 is trying to create their own versions of Halo. They have been trying since Halo 4. This would be fine and all if they could decide on what they want to do, but every game is different from the last so players can’t get familiar with 343’s Halo if the formula is constantly changing lol. They keep trying to “naturally” evolve Halo by changing the very things that made it play like a Halo game in the first place. And worst of all, they keep undoing their own work game after game… isn’t this a seasoned, experienced studio that has worked on Halo for over a decade now? And they still don’t have a plan or idea or vision of how they want the game’s multiplayer and campaign to work? For some reason, each of their games MUST be different and it makes 343 look like they are just taking shots in the dark.

Sure, they still have the Golden Triangle of Melee, Weapon and Grenades but everything else has been changed. This is just a mutated version of Halo and that’s why a large portion of fans are so confused with 343’s whacky, inconsistent Halo games.

The thing that baffles me is so much of infinite feels much closer to the classic halos, 2 and 3 (in my view).

Why they have made so many minor unnecessary changes, and why they have left some of the best MCC features behind (server select, matchmaking browser) is baffling.

Agreed.

Unfortunately I’ve stopped playing since they removed the FFA Slayer playlist.

I’m not saying there’s no fun game types in Rumble Pit but I just want to play FFA Slayer and getting other game types constantly appear puts me off even trying. :frowning:

Infinite does feel classics like Halo 2 or 3, but the lack of options is what drives me crazy. Both halo 2 and 3 had so much to offer on release. You had the grind for a 50 in both. In halo 3, you had to grind for that 5 star general at 5,000 wins with a 50.

This battle pass progression with events is what’s keeping this game going. People are paying money for cosmetics and the battle pass.

Infinite’s matchmaking system is so desperate to find players of “equal” skill that it will throw you into a match on another continent. The irony here is that because a player has a high ping, the match does not end up being equal at all. This is absolutely moronic.

Yep. EU player here. Played about 8 games of ranked between 3 and 5:30pm EU time today on a Friday afternoon.

Only 2 of those 8 games were on EU ping. On a Friday afternoon/evening…

I had the rest at 120, 160 and one at 230ms ping. Fun was not had.

I don’t mind them changing things up a bit. Experimenting. But they should probably introduce things a little slower and see what sticks.

Is there really Manglers in Snipers? Didn’t know that. Doesn’t sound great.

I don’t mind the Skewer.

And shotties is fine. It kind of keeps people moving.

I have enjoyed most, if not all, of the variants. Each one shakes up the game play just a little bit.

Maybe the list should alternate between classic and infinite?

This is the interesting one.

From a non-sweaty view point then Rumble Pit is perfect. And I love Vampire Oddball.

What we do need though is a classic FFA list in Ranked - for people to get all sweaty with.

Yep. A huge omission.

I’m all for SBMM. So I don’t mind the concept of some people getting a “bit” of a bump in ping to even out the games.

But you should have some control. At least a mimimum ping that you are prepared to sit back and wait for.

We definitely need an XP based system for people to grind. Weighted to wins, scores, and medals. That way people can be rewarded for the win.

Throw in Military Ranks to earn and people will be as happy as pigs in mud.

Yes please. I really don’t understand why this wasn’t from day dot.

Very important.

At least give us access to the API like in H5.

And while we are at it… how about more engaging post game stats. Show the MVP (eg. the most damage leading to kills). Highlight the top three medal winners. Show which two players traded the most shots. etc.

Something to spark a bit of community.

Not to mention that every game type they touch it seems to be altered in some way. Stockpile isn’t the reach version (which was fun) instead it’s some dumb battery version that’s not fun at all. They also changed oddball to rounds which is just weird. They change the way oddball/flag was a one hit kill.

I wouldnt be surprised if any old game types that come out don’t play like the used to. I bet assault will be something drastically altered like throwing the bomb or completely changing the mechanics

You have to understand that Halo is no longer built from passion and desire of the development team, it’s built from the ground up by market research and focus groups. With 343i desperately trying to find a broader audience it’s those players that are asked “What would make you play a Halo game?”.

Microsoft then correlate the data and present it to 343i and probably say something along the lines of "we’ve asked questions and done a lot of focus groups and your next Halo needs,

An open world,
new weapons,
new movement mechanics, faster TTK,
SBMM,
small 4v4 three lane maps,
New art direction
People don’t like vehicles,
But people want vehicles,
New game modes,
Can you make it like Call of Duty meets Fortnite,
People don’t care about ranks they want season passes,
A shop to buy useless tat.

You get the picture, 343i might be the development studio but they still have to jump when Microsoft say so.

Youre so out of touch if you honestly believe Microsoft is responoble for this disaster.

This is entirely on the incompetence of 343 industries. Theyve proven this time and time again.

If 343i were acting independently from Microsoft then we would have had better games, sure my post my have been over exaggerated but that’s nothing but pure sarcasm. My point is when Bungie were making Halo they removed themselves from the Microsoft hierarchy and still worked as if they were an independent studio.

With halo being the biggest franchise Microsoft has you can bet dollars to donuts they have their sticky fingers all over it.
