Don’t take this the wrong way but this has armchair developer written all over it. Assuming you don’t want 2 different engines (one for h5 and one for infinite) , there are many concerns. Even getting 2 engines to work together is a huge challenge (look at the mess MCC was in for years). Let’s also not forget that if you provided the same old forge that was already on pc and Xbox, fans would lament that there has been literally no improvement in all that time. Reusing h5 sandbox said elements as is for infinite would be a non-starter because of the difference in gameplay.
You need to consider a few things (these are just the tip of the iceberg I could think of in a couple minutes) :
the 2 games have very different art styles, so that you’ll need to generate all new assets regardless (let’s not even forget we are a whole console generation later too). The infinite artstyle is largely preferred by the halo community over h5 style - so there isn’t reuse there. Depending on if new rendering techniques were used for this artstyle (probably) they may have required upgrades to the engine.
halo 5 forge on pc did not run well as a pc port - infinite is a drastic improvement over it. To get there they would have had to make pretty substantial improvements to their engine (which they did). All of these significant upgrades would require significant test/QA time. So just keeping around h5 content isn’t quite as simple as ctrl+c, ctrl+v - it actually has a cost.
halo infinite (campaign) would have required significant changes to the engine to support the new dynamic elements (like lighting) needed by the campaign. Again you’d have to keep it compatible with the old h5 stuff. Other big changes needed to to manage how to render and simulate distant parts of the world that you can now interact with. For example, look at a squad of banished from very far away. They still move around (smoothly) and have their full simulation running. This wouldn’t be possible in the older engines.
h5 didn’t have (or support) equipmemt pickup equipment with multiple uses
h5 without abilities s requires maps to be built completely differently.
Adding in all these +more (with the possible exception of the art style) is… Upgrading the engine.
Based on what you said here is what my ideal way to go about it.
Release Halo 5 PC as it’s own thing.
Then release the campaign for halo infnite with co op.
Then later on release the multiplayer for Halo infinite with the forge so that it can come out with all the modes. All the settings and everything else that infnite comes with.
All in that order.
It would’ve gave PC players a chance to experience the old tittle before the new one and the content.
The campaign for infinite could of still had its own launch like it did.
And then finally multiplayer would release complete
In name only.
Hardly any of H5G’s “core Halo weapons” look like their originals and not a single one handled like them.
Absolutely nothing about H5G was “core Halo”.
It’s still funny you mention Forge and Coop as H5G’s alleged “strengths”, when Forge also wasn’t there at launch and the game still doesn’t have splitscreen to this day.
H5G is a laughingstock in terms of features.
They took both Halo 4 and Halo 5 away from me.
I survived.
You will too.
I have great memories playing with people who are no longer here today back in the Halo 3 days that I wouldn’t trade for the world. It didn’t last forever but those memories sure as hell will
They definitely did function like them and they do look the same it’s just stylized which I get some people don’t like.
No equipment is core Halo
That was a typoi didn’t say fire. I said core.
Probably not. Gaming as a whole as being going in a spiral and Halo infnite is no exception. That’s why it’s free to play. It’s about to become another Fortnite if it not already is. At least half 5 attemted to be its own thing and it did it pretty damn well.
I haven’t played Halo 5, so I don’t know what it was like when it released.
However, it couldn’t have been worse than Infinite’s release.
Bugs everywhere (custom games not saving changes, bots not appearing, servers losing connection, etc.).
Greatly lacking content (few maps, few modes, few playlists, no Forge, no Firefight, no co-op, etc.).
Horrible monetization and pricing (basic colors for sale, $20 for armors, $60 for the campaign, challenge swaps, difficult challenges, XP boosts, slow progression, etc.).
As far as I can tell, it’s just gone downhill from Halo 3.
I don’t see why they wouldn’t bring it to PC. The multiplayer is so brilliant I genuinely believe the only people that don’t like it are bad at the game and it’s too complicated for them. I’d love to see the playtime/rank of most of the people that bad-mouth the multiplayer experience.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the Halo that’s, by far, the least accessible to new players is the one that gets all the hate.
The forge maps and all of the variations of the same maps do suck however. The graphics are hideous too. Let’s not mention the campaign.
After fighting one of the bosses in the Infinite campaign that uses an attack that looks like the Ground Pound, I don’t think I’d like to see that or the Spartan Charge return…
I think the Thruster in Infinite should be improved however.
About bringing Halo 5 to PC, it would be great if they did that and included faster progression.
An option to have different graphics styles might be nice too.
I hold that opinion as well but I don’t say it because some people like to use that as an argument about the causals.
The highest skilled games was where the game truly shined. It really was like a fighting game where you had to press buttons in sussession in order to move. Sprint, jump, thrust, Sprint, jump, clamber, jump, stabilize, ground pound, shoot,Sprint, slide, jump stabilize. Man. It was amazing. You had to be on your toes. You had to THINK. Every single move could give you an advantage if you crouch correctly or stabilize correctly. I have found that some people just can’t handle that stuff. It’s TOO much. I really hope fans of that type of gameplay get a game like that someday because Apex doesn’t cut it. Halo 5s thruster system was unique because it was a chain of combos rather than just having a grapple
Spartan charge should come back as a custom game option.
Also when it comes to the ground pound and spartan charge I want them to be apart of the thruster system but as movement tools not meeles. Because the spartan charge and ground pound added moves to the loop when moving around
I have limited time to take a break and play some Halo. At the moment, I spend more time getting the MCC challenges, than I do on Infinite. This season has seen some pretty outstanding armour. My Reach and Halo 3 look pretty impressive.
I’d be okay with it as a custom game option.
Having a modified Thruster with those movement additions would be good as well.
I’d really like to see them increase the amount of uses equipment has in matchmaking though.
It’s cool to use the Grappleshot, but you only get 3 times.
If they changed the Thruster like you said, I think it would be cool to use it more than 3 times as well.
