There were a TON of cool banished vehicles that could have made an appearance in halo infinite campaign (banished lich, scarab, locust, grunt goblins, up armored wraiths, wraith APCs, etc)
Given that the models for all of those vehicles exist already, how hard would it be to put them in the game? I hope at least one of these vehicles gets put in the DLC.
I’d also like to see/hear about what happens to brute brothers paivum and voridus
Most likely because these models are scaled both polygonally, texturally, and animated to be viewed at a distance rather than in a first person perspective.
A direct port or modified port would be painful to look at up close even after work was done.
There are mods made for existing Halo titles that use assets from Halo Wars that back this speculation up.
I agree that it would be great to see some of these in the FPS games, but it’s not as simple as reusing assets. I love how many times I hear/read people saying “just reuse the asset”. That’s not how that works. I’m not saying any of this in a mean or down putting way, purely informative.
Typically when you go from one game to the next, things change. Poly counts go up and higher resolution textures are used. This means building a new model and texture for each asset. As for HW2, all of the existing assets for those vehicles are very low quality because it’s an RTS. New models are 100% required with new textures.
Games also frequently see an increase in scale from one to the next so models from the previous games will appear smaller before rescaling it to the current size. When you increase the scale of those older models you can really see the difference with all the hard angles from the poly difference.
If you mean more like the overall design with all the extra armor and spikes then yes. I wish they had the same brutal design as HW2.
One of the biggest disappointments in the Infinite campaign was this. I really wanted to see Banished Scarabs, Blisterbacks, Locust, etc. in the campaign. They could have made for such great encounters. Hopefully we’ll get them in an expansion down the line
Given how bare bones the game released and how simple the campaign is, I’m sure it came down to time. They probably had all sorts of things they would have liked to have been able to do.
I don’t, but RejectedShotgun has a few videos of ported models on YouTube, and additional searches for Halo Wars vehicles in Halo 3/Reach will turn up results.
