Why did they stop unlock tokens being given on level ups?

So for summery, I bought the game a year or so after launch played it all, forgot about it uninstalled it, then I come back years later when Seasons has just come out, I grind all the Reach items enjoying Multiplayer and then I find my only way to get the other items for the other games is to constantly wait for the weekly challenges to reset.

So my question is why the hell did 343 make it this way? It isn’t fun to only come back every week for a long session of grinding, if someone from 343 is reading this, change it so you get unlock tokens for every level up, that worked and was fun, and for anyone else reading this, did they ever explain why they changed it?

I think it was to help deter players from going AFK to farm XP. Since XP is rewarded even if you do absolutely nothing if you are rewarded a season point for cosmetics more players would just idle through games, or tape their thumbstick so they constantly spin or what ever to farm XP for points. While players still go afk for whatever reason I think it’s not near as bad as it was when they first started the whole xp/challenge system.

XP in MCC does literally nothing after level 100. The game does not tell you this.

It’s a hold over from how Reach was made available for simultaneous PC and Xbox release. It came with the battlepass and all original Reach armors were in it. 10 levels of 10 unlocks each and you got one unlock point for each level up. After it ended, 343i made future unlock points come from challenges but never touched the XP system. It’s a shocking flaw. People have been confused about it since season 2.

I’ve gotten used to getting season points through challenges only, but it would be nice if ranking up still gave them.

It may be better if it was at least outlined in game somewhere.

In reality there are only 300 levels and a majority of players are going to be on the lower end. So this change could happen and have little impact.
