Why did they make the thruster pack useless?

Theres the difference. You think thats what Halo is, but it is not. And Im more than confident that youre going to be in the EXTREME minority of Halo fans with that opinion.

Not trying to be a d**k, i just think you have a flawed image of what Multiplayer Halo is. Your idea/opinion isnt bad and youre not a terrible player for it. It just isnt what the goal of Halo MP is lol. You seem to still like the game well enough, so thats good atleast. But dont expect these key things to change.

The only thing I saw in here is that the thrust should have it’s momentum back aside from that no one made a sound argument to defend equipment. I made my arguments against it but everyone seems to ignore it.

So that means the conversation is done. You like what you like. I like what I like. They like what they like. Plus there is only a new of us here. It’s not like people don’t share my opinion. Just because I’m the only.one here right now doesn’t mean people should be speaking like this. Do I disagree with points in others posts? Sure. But do I do what these guys are doing? No.

These honestly feel like Halo 4 garbage Thrusters, but without the 3rd person camera, and then added Halo 5 sfx.

The entirety of Halo 4 and Halo 5’s multiplayer takes place on holographic simulations within Anvil Station and the UNSC Infinity’s War Games deck.

It encourages players to adopt different playstyles and to learn “I gotta keep those tools out of their hands next time”. It forces players to learn the maps and get good at the game, otherwise they lose every time. Keeping any one of those tools out of the enemy’s hands for the next match shows that you have improved your tactics and you now have a tool to enjoy and utilize against the enemy.

That is because some equipment is lower-tier while others are more sought for. Thruster lets you evade more easily, but only horizontally. Compared to the mobility provided by the Grapple-Shot to accellerate in any direction you aim AND to grab equipment off the rack/the ground; it is a more valued tool and thus spawns further away from initial spawn.

And that is one of my pet-peeves with any of the gaming pro leagues. Their insistance that games be faster and update to do certain things to their liking has made games become sour and distasteful.

I used to play Rainbow Six Siege DAILY, but since the pro-league keeps demanding this-and-that; the game has become far more annoying -

  • dead bodies disappear instantly, so now you cannot play dead as a tactic
  • everyone has a shiny effect so now you cannot hide in the shadows, which was a viable tactic
  • rounds have shortened to two-minutes each so you cannot actually pace your time; you have to blitz rush rather than work as a coordinated team and take things slow when you can and then blitz rush when all the players are set and ready.

Halo Championship reveled in short matches BECAUSE when televised, they can easily go to commercial break between matches, because every fight is guaranteed to last only three minutes.

Okay… so you want for us to manually pick up ammo now too? Auto-pickup is a great tool because you suddenly have acquired new equipment that opens up your range of tactics that you can employ. You killed a guy with the Proximity Sensor and you just automatically picked it up? GREAT ! You didn’t waste time trying to pick it up, only to pick up his inferior guns instead, making you sit there for an easy target. And now you have a tool that can give your team some intel advantage.

What’s wrong with this?

Ok. It’s not useless. What I did say. It was useless against good players who use basic tactics like the melee lunge. This was explained all the way in the beginning. Why this thread had to go this far. Idk. But I already stated my points

Well my proposition only reaffirms your opinion on the thruster being (almost) useless. Which i dont agree with from a fundamental standpoint. If it doesnt change, which it likely won’t, then thins will still be great just the way they are

Btw thats a form of confirmation bias, which shows youre unwilling to see deferring points. And there’s plenty of those here, but I digress

I’m still playing the game. So to some degree I’m already ok with everything they are ok with. So to say I don’t see their points is invalid. I do see them. I just don’t agree with them.

I will agree with you on the pros. They shouldn’t dictate how the game runs and if they do then they should have their own speical playlist that they can do whatever they want with it. Some people say. “Ohhh that’s creating two games in one”. Na. I think it will solve a lot of issues.

Thats how it should be… but you just said people werent making sound arguments, yet they have been lol. The only one you entertained was the one that fulfilled your thoughts and opinions… so basically you didnt come here to discuss and debate and find some common ground. You came here to state an opinion and wanted people to agree

Youre right. This thread shouldnt have gone this long lol.

The thread ended when I stated my points about the lunge and stiffness of the thrusters. In my opinion I think it should be changed and that’s as far as this post should’ve went. If anything the title of the post is why I made the post. I want to know why they changed it. People alluded to why they did change it. That’s great. However I don’t agree with why they did.

All of this is pretty simple. Nothing serious. Yet it became a lot more than that and it always happens to be the same people who stir that pot.

I mean. It’s my opinion they weren’t sound arguments. On the other hand I saw more of people liking the equipment and the direction it’s headed rather than an argument as to why it NEEDS to be in the game. All of this doesn’t matter tho because the original topic wasn’t even about that

So you never planned on listening, only being heard? Interesting.

You cut off the rest of my.reply so obviously without context you can come to that conclusion.

I said that I was looking for the why. They alddued to the why and that’s great. Never said I didn’t want to listen.

Your interpretation of a figurative statement isn’t correct my guy :joy:

That’s a story telling device called “exposition”. It lends flavor to the experience through immersion in the environment. It’s similar to why nearly all maps have a simple story behind them, why all armors (despite being cosmetic only) have a description detailing their origins or function, and why weapons are given designations, calibers, and animations to make them feel more immersive.

Doesn’t change the fact Halo 5 was an arena shooter with twitch shooter inspiration. It just meant that now Spartans are part of the plot in universe to be fighting one another, rather than have it be the plot for the first episode of Red vs Blue where there is no reason to be fighting in the middle of a boxed canyon.

The simulation is a story telling/world building element, not the the gameplay subgenre.

It’s a power up, it gives you an ability you don’t otherwise have access to by default lol

Yes, not quite, and yes.

Yes: Halo is built on balance.

Not quite: Adding variables to default starts potentially creates inequality. Reducing variables on defaults starts evens the playing field.

Yes: more variables on the field creates less balance, which is why power weapon spawns are usually dictated by a single use weapon.

Yes, which enables map control and points of contention. Balance doesn’t mean equal across the board, it never has.

This is the core to Halo’s combat loop: ‘Equal’ starts, secure unequal power weapons and power ups, control key points on map to retain dominance. The only game that didn’t do this in a balanced way was Halo 4.

For one, not every power up is god tier. Just like not every weapon is god tier. Some power ups are abstract utilities (like thruster) whereas others are more precise tools (overshield). Different values for different tools. It’s why Rockets aren’t on the same spawn timer as the Plasma Pistol.

Bazaar is a symmetrical map, and thruster is accessible in a symmetrical fashion. It’s not a game changer like Overshield is, but it can be used to gain an advantage if you use it in a calculating fashion.

I was pretty clear in my objective explanations. It’s not my fault if you didn’t choose to read it.

Well if that doesn’t sound like every version of Halo multiplayer ever, I dunno what does lol.

Welcome back Volt

I’d use it if I had nothing else. But I feel like other options just out weigh it in the long run… I’ve seen some interesting plays with it though, my favorite being where a guy jumped up, turned around, thrusted backwards over an enemy and back tapped him for an instant kill.

They explained in depth that it was a Spartan simulation. Ignoring that I see.

Yes it makes it immersive. It’s a video game. The entire thing isn’t real. Are you saying that 343 is wrong for saying it’s a simulation? It’s their game. They can call it what they want.

It being an arena shooter doesn’t change the context behind what 343 said the gameplay was. Which is a simulation.

So it’s a power up in halo infinite but not in halo 5 because it’s default? This doesn’t make sense.

Adding variables where everyone has them does not create inequality. This is just plain wrong. There isn’t even a point to debate you after this comment if that’s what you think.

That combat loop you just explained worked just fine without equipment.

This is opinion. The level how how you gauge how strong an equipment is based on your skill and how you veiw the equipment. Just because you feel something is strong or not strong doesn’t mean it is or isn’t.

And I already explained how those points are wrong. It’s not me who’s not reading if I responded those already.

Not at all. Not every Halo is the same.

How cute. Gatta piggy back on the useless comments. Failing so hard to keep up that you gatta bring in outside statements in order to make a point.

In fact. You are pretty much the one that spun this whole thread into something that it isn’t. Everything your talking about isn’t even on topic. I already explained my points. People said they changed for xy and z reasons. I listened and I still feel that the thruster could change. I know equipment isn’t going away. I just happen not to like them. So you are arguing into the air because you already got what you want and your trying to defend it as if I’m going to take it away from you.

I’ve had things like this happen and it’s fun. The collision ruins it tho. Half the time I phase through the enemy while trying to do this

I’m saying you’re wrong for calling it a combat simulation to describe the gameplay mechanics when it’s an arena shooter.

You’re only just now using my explanation of in universe plot to justify your statements. It’s disingenuous.

Simulation is the plot.

Arena shooter is the gameplay.

Makes perfect sense. A power up is something you don’t start with. If you start with it, it’s an ability.

I didn’t say it does, I said it has the potential to.

Adding more variables means there’s could be skill disparagement, Halo 5 is a great example of this with the high skill floor requiring comprehensive knowledge of how and when to use your many abilities. It doesn’t offer a casual approach with the default gameplay whereas Halo 3 or Reach can be picked up by any player relatively simply due to the low amount of variables.

I’m a halfway decent FPS player, I’d be pretty useless in Halo 5 without knowing the advanced movement mechanics. However I can zip between Halo CE/2/3/Reach without much trouble due to the simplistic and less variable mechanics.

It’s not a difficult concept.

And it works just as fine with equipment.

No it’s objective fact.

Having twice the amount of health is immensely advantageous to having the ability to deflect a single projectile.

Becoming invisible and not showing up on the radar is immensely advantageous to being able to put down a one way paper thin shield.

Having the ability to latch onto a ranged surface and maneuver in a three dimensional area is immensely advantageous to zipping quickly in a limited range behind a post on a horizontal plane.

You’ve told me pretty generally that I’m wrong, yet haven’t provided any specific reasons or examples as to why without improperly and disingenuously misinterpreting my points.

Scrambling over a corpse or pile of corpses that had a weapon or object you were looking for sounds like every single Halo I’ve played.

When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser

Oh it can change, it needs a little more umph and maybe a shorter cooldown.

Only responding to what you posted my guy.

This was my inital point in response to your topic. Everything that doesn’t relate to this contextual point is stuff you brought up lol

The gameplay mechanics are apart of the simulation.

You are just arguing for the sake of arguing over a topic that isn’t even about the original topic. Literally. Your entire presence here is debating my opinion on wether or not Equipment should be in halo. It already is. And I called it a simulation alluding to the fact that combat is suppose to be hard.

This right here perfectly explains why you can’t see my arguments. You being able to play the older Halos because of simplicity shows that Halo 5 is just to hard for you. I get it. It’s a hard game. Doesn’t mean it’s bad or doesn’t work. It’s what I prefer and it’s what you don’t prefer. Simple as that.

Again. Your skill and how you choose to use it detrimes tmits strength. It’s not like rockets where you have garenteed kills on impact. You have to use the grapple in a way to make it advantageous to you which requires more skill than a rocket launcher. One is a power weapon. One is a equipment. They are not the same and equipment isnt power ups. Oversheild and camo are. Well I guess technically they are equipment now but you get they point.

I said your wrong and pointed out the many scenarios that prove it’s not balanced. Like spawning near equipment. Or walking over one in a battle that you had to choice to be a part of. For example if the whole team is on spawn and both teams clash in one area an equipment piece could drop and any random player can pick it up. Phasing through people also makes this worse. Sure. You could have fun in something that’s in unbalanced but it is unbalanced

Except not every item in halo was equipment to pick up. It’s like you think the needler is some how the same as a repulsor.

Since when did I use slander? Since when did I loose a debate. You can’t hold your arguments together. That’s why you can’t talk on specifc scenarios because all your arguments would fall apart. The moment we start getting into “this player has a grapple, this player has a repulsor all in one match” it begins to look shaky for your “it’s balanced” argument.

Exactly. I posted about the thruster and the thruster only. Not about equipment as a whole. Great to see you acknowledge that you are the one that took it off topic.

Yes that is your first reply. But it wasn’t your only reply. I said having it by default would be fun and then you went off into an entirely different topic. You didn’t need to but you did.

I think it’s best you stop responding. The main points have already been said. Everyone else has expressed their piece and moved on. For some reason it seems like you need to prove something. Idk why but this ain’t the thread for that. Every time you reply we are just ganna keep going in circles because you like what you like and I like what I like.

As a defensive ability, it’s pretty good. If you position yourself properly, thrusting behind a wall after a quick kill (or even mid-fight) it allows your shields to recharge. I think this was done intentionally.
