Well, if you’ve read Halo: First Strike, you would’ve learned that it was going to happen anyway.
Halo: First Strike takes place between the end of Halo CE and Halo 2
In First Strike, Cortana makes a clone of herself to help Chief because he is going to board another Covenant ship and needs her help, but she needs to stay behind to pilot the Covenant Flagship they hijacked previously. The clone goes rampant, makes several more clones of itself, and ultimately thinks itself to death. 343 used this already established lore to make a story in Halo 4 that would bring out chief’s humanity.

No i have not read halo first strike

Well, then what is your theory about why she died?
Idk, why did Johnson die?
Johnson died for trying to persuade the moniter to destroy Halo
So the moniter hit a plasma laser at Johnson’s weak point
And died. (That was for Wagnerok)
And Cortana didn’t really ‘die’
She was to weak after the end of Halo 3 and the beginning of Halo 4
What happened to her I don’t know (

But I hear how Cortana has a role in Halo 5 Guardians
So it claims that Cortana isn’t dead
But lost
Maybe John (Master Chief) will play a role to find Cortana

Simply put… they wanted to make a mark and bring in a new chapter of halo.
Cortana outlived every known AI in the Halo Series she lived to be 7 years old most AI live only to be about 4 Years this is in service years due to her rampancy she slowly lost some of her memories that’s why which was slowly killing her because it would have drove her insane they needed to find Halsey in the start of the campaign in Halo 4
Because with the last strength he had left to protect cortana to master nuclear explosion boss and so dies. bone becomes limp to exit the composer and x_x or maybe not … ¿RIP in pepperroni ?
You should read the books. You need to get on track, Cortana’s death was the saddest event in the whole franchise, and it showed John’s human side. Master Chief was very hurt.
Not really sure … to help player’s empathy with chief? Will he have a new AI in Halo 5 Guardians?
They probably wanted to show the human side of the Master Chief. Show that the people that created him to be a Spartan actually had to break him to become a Spartan.
cortana is not dead she,s digitally fragmented and can be brought back online she is after all an AI and can be reprogramed
Technically she was never ‘alive’ to begin with, if that helps…
Because adventure without risk is Disneyland. If the characters that you’re invested in are impervious to death then their achievements come without risk and without true heroism.
Space Magic got to her and she had to go past the average life of a AI so she went ramped
She sacrificed herself to save John at the end of Halo 4
