Now, i can already sense the salt from this post, but I personally thought Halo 4 was a great game. Much better than Halo 3. I was so sick of the Flood in nearly half the game and the Prometheans were a cool replacement. The story was a bit on the dramatic side but I liked it. It actually made me look at chief and realize “wow, he really is human” when he stood speechless after the loss of cortana. I did dislike the new covenant art style but the UNSC stuff still looked cool and sounded way heavier and just better. The soundtrack was slightly lesser than other games but I will never forget the urgency that “Arrival” places at the last section of the game. Also, sprinting i thought was a fine addition to the game, it’s not over the top mobility like Halo 5 but speeds up the already fun multiplayer experience. Promethean weapons also felt very unique, fun, and powerful in a variety of situations. Anyway, what are your guys opinions? Did you like the game? Or was it a disappointment to the franchise?
Please, don’t harass others for differing opinions either.

The armour abilities in rumble pit.
Halo 4 was and still is my favorite Halo game. The story is awesome, I love the multiplayer, and sound effects are the best of the series. I love the new BR look.
The story seems to be more mature than previous games and I don’t understand the people who think that it is too complicated. Visuals are Xbox One level. Multiplayer is awsome, I still play it on my 360(instead of TMCC) for the original BTB Infinty Slayer. Halo 4 seems to be the only game I can enjoy on a casual level without hardcore veteran fans destroying me.
Call of Duty is just who reacts faster and classic Halo has too much of a skill gap. Halo 4 is the perfect multiplayer for me. I like personalizing my own Loadouts; for example: DMR, Cloak, and Awareness, is a awesome combination. I don’t like modes without my own customized loadouts. If someone doesn’t like loadouts, why are they playing Halo 4?
The thing I hated the most was EVERYTHING Covenant.
- The Elites are now Brutes, and their melee animation is fast, undogeable (taking only 10 frames, in other words, you will be able to react to it the moment you are dead) and 1 hit kill. They also roll and dodge bullets and grenades less frequent than ever. And they’re armor design was bad, except Zealot, IMO. - Hunters. I have no problems with them, except that their melee animation is also speed up. I didn’t had any problems with Grunts or Jackals however. - The vehicles looked way too purple and Banshee’s evasive maneuvers we’re slow as hell. - The thing that comes out of space out of nowhere that can defy the laws of gravity and stop in mid-air to deliver troops and leaves at high-speed (Spartan Ops) Their asthetics didn’t also look good but also not bad.The rest was good.

Love the part you mentioned about the drop pods (reason 4). XD anyway I have to agree on you with the fact that their artwork/design wasn’t as good as 2 which I though had the coolest looks in general. The designs that I did like were the Prometheans and UNSC weapons, with a few Cove ones.
Halo 4 was my favorite game next to Halo 2.
a lot of people really liked the game, but the people who didn’t spent more time complaint about it than playing. Realistically only about 1/3 of the community DIDNT like it, but the rest were too busy playing it to fight back against the tide of complaints on waypoint or moved on to other games like Skyrim, which was more popular then competite shooters when it came out.
The complaints were by a lot of people who didn’t enjoy that you didn’t have to be Good at Halo 4 to win. They complained that AA, loadouts, ordinance, support and power ups. Made the game feel too out of place, but really they were just upset that it wasn’t like Halo 3 and they got their butts handed to them by new players.
In the end Halo 4 suffered for what the minority’s opinions were.
I think it was largely a contrast in style compared to the original trilogy, both in how it was designed and played. The early mechanics of sprinting and armor abilities that came before Halo 5’s time were great, but it still felt a little off (often times jarring) when compared to the first three games. Halo has always been about a slow-rolling first person shooter experience, that gradually builds in both gameplay and story. But when 343i took over the franchise they vastly updated its style, while bringing less substance.
Now Halo 4 is most definitely a great addition to the series, don’t get me wrong. It’s only downfall, unfortunately, was that it was released in an era where video games needed to evolve but Halo itself didn’t necessarily need to do so.

The majority of people didn’t like Halo 4 as you can tell from the massive population drop. You are actually in the minority. How can you argue that most people liked Halo 4 when the population drop shows otherwise. I didn’t like Halo 4 because it had sprint, they made the master chief an over emotional sap, it had a hideous art style, and they tried to make a love story between master chief and an ai. How ridiculous is that? I made a post about this yesterday and this is what I wrote. I really don’t understand why people say Halo 4’s campaign is good, or even one of the best. The enmies are bullet spongey, uninteresting, and they are very obnoxious and tedious to fight. The enemies also have undodgeable melee attacks and some of them randomly teleport, making the battles extremely inconsistent and drawn out. The story is what I like the least. They made master chief an over emotional sap , as if he didn’t fight through armies of alien freaks and save the world multiple times like a boss. When I first played Halo 4 it seemed to me like they were trying to make a love story between the master chief and an AI that was created from the mind of an old lady that kidnapped him. Like what the heck. They really ruined the master chief. Master chief wasn’t made in depth on purpose, and that was part of what made the original trilogy so amazing. You felt like you were the master chief, not some depressed mentally unstable old man. And how does halo 4 have a good story if it takes someone who read the books to actually understand it? 343 tries to cover every plot hole, inconsistency, and thing they mess up in the books. For example, master chiefs armor, they made up the worst excuse as to why they completely butchered it and made it ugly. You can’t make a game and then make lore up for it to make an excuse for why you messed it up. It’s pretty obvious that the “nanobots” thing was a load of (you know what I mean). Same thing for the elites. They screwed them up, and then 343 made up some excuse to make it look like it was for a reason. Halo didn’t become famous because the lore it had, and the original trilogy was not based off of a book. Just because a story is unclear, overly complicated, and convoluted, it doesn’t mean it’s good. Halo’s awesomeness came from its simplicity and its accessibility , not its complexity and appeal to a small group . To me , Halo 4’s story is like a fan-fiction written by a depressed teenager, not a professional game developer that has some sense in storytelling.
The highly unbalanced arena turned me off right away. I came back later after a few title updates that balanced out some of the other mid to long range options, but still it didn’t have that halo feel that I had come to love over the past 13 years. Sadly it got shelved until MCC came out for me.
Although one thing I forgot to mention that I think it did right was Flood. I always wanted infection to have flood models for the infected, and while certain other aspects of infection were missing this was the coolest thing to me at the time. I’m sad that this hasn’t returned since H2A. Maybe in H6 we can have this feature back.

All the points you’ve covered could be considered valid arguments, but there are explanations as to why 343i did what they did in terms of its characters.
The added emotional dimension to John had to happen so that he could be relatable in the situation that he’s trying to save someone (or something) that he’s been committed to for a very long time. Companionship and individualistic fear are constant themes in Halo 4, and in order to dive into those new themes they had to…not necessarily reinvent the Master Chief and Cortana…but provide different dimensions to their characters. After all, this is a new era for video games and most have to evolve in order to keep up with the status quo. I believe evolving their characters was a step in the right direction.
I think Halo 4 gave us a great story, great graphics and a pretty good forge. But the lack of a good online matchmaking was the thing that I hated the most.
Honestly don’t know. This might be a very controversial opinion, so trigger warning, but I consider Halo 4 to be a fixed Reach.
In terms of multiplayer, they:
- Toned down weapon bloom considerably. - Nerfed the Banshee from being a ridiculously OP killing machine. - Gave us the BR as well as the DMR - Love having the option of weapon in SWAT. - Made armor abilities more fair and less ridiculous: no more OP jetpack or armor lock. They also gave us an amazingly personal story regarding Chief and Cortana. I consider Halo 4’s narrative to be the greatest we’ve seen thus far in the Halo series, which makes the utter travesty of Halo 5’s story all the more painful.
Halo 4 is a very solid Halo game, and I honestly don’t understand all the (imo) undeserved hate that it received.

I agree with most of that, except the banshee part, I jumped in a banshee once, and got 5 kills easily before being shot down by a mantis and splaser. The banshee is still incredibly OP. In my opinion, they didn’t nerf it even in halo 5.

I just feel like it goes down a lot faster in 4 than it does in Reach. It’s tricks are a lot slower as well as it’s fuel rod. I’m sure that it can still do some damage in the hands of a capable pilot but it just doesn’t seem to wreak as much havoc as it did in Reach. Honestly, NakedEli’s video on the Reach Banshee tells me all I need to know about that monster.
And I think Halo 5 restored the Banshee to it’s Reach status, but added shields, making it even more ridiculous. I utterly despise the Banshee in Halo 5’s multiplayer.

At least an accurate splaser shot can take it down! Unless its a req variant. RIP

Yep, personally I think that it is the best of the series. I still have an Xbox 360 to play the original Halo 4 BTB. Honestly, I don’t care if people come on here spewing numbers and saying that the community does not like Halo 4. I like Halo 4 and that’s my opinion, why should we care because some people didn’t like it? The story and multiplayer are better than Halo 5.
The campaign game play was kinda boring and the MP was way too different for many

How so? I have never seen anyone refer to 4’s campaign as “boring”
