> Firstly, many thanks to The Little Moa for all of his responses ! They are clearly based on good will.

> Thanks :)

> Secondly, I just cant believe that there exists this automatic, no questions asked banning, it seems so ridiculous and counter productive to Halo in general. Why not give some kind of warning or multiple warnings before actually handing down a ban ? It seems that there are quite a few people that received bans for pretty innocent reasons. A 24-48 hour ban doesn’t seem like a big deal, but I would personally feel a bit ripped off if I could not play a game that I paid for when in fact I was not “intentionally” breaking any rules. Why not a warning with a specific reason ?
>
> The small cR bans are your warning, if you think AFKing is fine, you don’t deserve a warning at all, if you feel ripped off then that’s just that, you don’t get banned from Reach, you just can’t earn cR for X amount of time.
> If you can’t play a game, you should quit out, that’s the main reason for the option existing.
>
> Thirdly, I dont know how pervasive bans are (tens per day, hundreds per day ? ), but I would expect a much stronger 343 presence on this thread, justifying bans that were challenged. After all, we players are the customers, no ? As it stands now, they dont seem to care at all.
> This topic was left for community members to manage, most of the time it is just in the users game history showing they have boosted or AFK’d, there is no need for 343 presence at all.
Fact of the matter is that if you look at our previous game history you’ll see that we haven’t boosted once. We’ve very rarely been matched up with the same people even twice in a row so we obviously “language boost” which I’ve never even though of doing until you said that and we looked it up… I’m still never going to do that because we don’t need to boost. You accuse people of that because it’s hard for you to believe that SOME people might actually be good enough at halo to get high kill death ratios.
Look deeper into it before you call people boosters.
I have read just about every page in this topic. I have read how people like The little Moa and snickerdoodle have constantly not only helped people but sort of put them down as well by saying things like “Enjoy your ban”, this isn’t called for all the time, where as in some cases it is, while it is deserving, on most posts Ive read, you guys could’ve said “Take it easy next time and don’t do stupid things” or something a little kinder.
Now most of the posts on here make sense on why they were banned. Things like AFKing, modding, custom challenges, achievement boosting, credit boosting, K/D boosting, and idle guests, and people who are not any good at playing ect. I even learned that the banhammer went and banned many innocent people and was later fixed. From what Ive seen a first time offense is 24-48 hours of ban, second time is 1-2 weeks, and apparently multiple bans are up for things like credit reset, loss of rank and armor, too loosing everything with the dreaded permaban.
Now and example of the banhammer messing up involves a post I made on page 43. This was during the time change where you set the clock back an hour. I had hit the credit limit for the day and started playing again at midnight EST and went into firefight with a friend, at the end of that match I earned some credits and was like O.o. I checked my phone and saw the time change but it had not for the xbox. So we played another match and I was unable to earn any credits cause it said I’d hit the limit. When the time did change and it became 1:00am est I was credit banned for a day. Now there is a banable offense for using the time change option on your system settings to reset the credit limit. But in this case is was the system thinking I had when it simply hadn’t updated the time for an hour.
I am currently serving a temp ban of unknown time for boosting with guests and friends for the Defiant and Anniversary achievements. THERE ARE NO SPECIAL TREATMENTS here in this forum. This has been stated many times. I hope this post does two things here, proves that nothing is perfect in this world the banhammer is one of these things, 2. If you are unsure of what it is your doing read the above, I have listed the things here not to do. Please don’t make the admin as well as the people I’ve listed above repeat themselves.
My last request is for any admins out there. We here on this forum need an official list of all the times of all the Banable offenses on Halo, from first offense to second all the way to four in which I cant see going that far but you get my point. The only reasons this topic is 94 pages is because 1. People don’t understand their ban. 2.There is no list of times for bans as mentioned above. I’m not looking for a reply I’ve only posted this because after going through 94 pages of this topic, I have said everything that needs to be covered here in this topic of Why was I banned? Hope this helps future readers. P.S. Thank You The Little Moa and others of his rank and importance here for helping those who need it. Not enough people help others out today. It makes me smile to see such kindness.

Well I mainly got out of that, that you don’t like the way I tell people to enjoy their bans.
When I say that, I say it when I am 100% confident that they did something wrong that was against the rules and bannable, I don’t say it when the player got banned for being a bad player.
If you don’t mind, sending that whole thing in a PM @Ice, preferably with paragraphs so I can read it easier.
sorry about that I thought I had,I fixed it now I hope, put spaces and all just scroll up to see the reedit. Nothing personal eh Moa? Wasnt sure where you directed those…lol Im not very used to typing in forums pardon my slips =p
i was banned from earning credits for 2weeks its been 2weeks and im still banned?
You are unbanned the exact millisecond you were banned, so if you were banned at 10:01:000001PM, you will be unbanned at that time in exactly 14 days.
It will eventually expire.
Hello there i need help. I had gotten banned from halo3 for no reason. I contacted Bungie they said that they don’t own the halo3 servers anymore so i came to you for help i called microsoft here is the reference number 1171440181 i would just like to be unbanned i am perma banned on the account and a three month bann on the console i would like my console at least to be unbanned from halo3. please give some more info or help me out. Thank You My Gamertag is MALEFIC MlLKJUG
hi, i am an inexperienced gamer so i am currently using my brothers Xbox live account to play but i have recently bought Halo Reach. I have been banned from gaining credits and this has been so since six days ago. From reading these post i believe it may be because i earned zero kills or because i went idle while playing. However, i can excuse the second as i had to leave temporarily during a game but my brother was still playing on split screen with me on my Halo Reach account. Please could somebody tell me whether i will ever be able to earn credits again and when that may be. Thank You, Beth.

I can’t offer help on the perma ban but your console will be unbanned in three months like you said.
Any idea what you actually got the permanent ban for if you don’t mind me asking?

You went idle still, that’s bannable, you must play the full game or quit out, not go idle once.
If it is a first time offence which it is by the sounds of it, your ban is likely to last 24-48 hours.
i am very angry cuz 343 banned me today in the morning from earning CR for two weeks,
I did not do anything bad to deserve a ban. I just had bad network connection and my internet is failin everytime, i get connected and disconnected several times.
343 thinks i am cheatin with CRs but im not.
I ask 343 to remove that ban, please.

I was playing Reach with my 5 year old son tonight, and suddenly received the message “Your console has been temporarily banned from earning credits” - after reading through this forum, my guess is that it is because he is only 5 years old and rarely gets a kill, and typically ends up going negative. I don’t feel this is very fair, he really enjoys playing the game, but again, he’s 5 years old…he’s still learning how to control his character, and jumps up and down with joy when he ACTUALLY manages to get a kill. I’m just a little upset at this, I understand the reasoning behind it, but seriously, I think there are too many factors into why someone would have several 0 kill games (I for one sometimes go a game or two without any kills), shouldn’t the system at least take into consideration the fact that the player is actually running around shooting their gun?? Or driving vehicles off cliffs (lol this is his typical negative scoring).
How long does a temporary cR ban last? Because I was playing a game and it just banned me for being idle while eating dinner.I want to pass Colonel grade 2. Thank you

The system sadly can’t tell if the player is moving in-game or how he is dying, just his final kills and deaths of a game, the system does take into account multiple games, if it is a lot of zero kill games on repeat, it will ban them.
The only solution is to wait it out and just play with your 5 year old son in Firefight.

If it is a first time offence, it should last roughly 24-48 hours.

Ok. Thank you for the reply!
I have been banned as well as my wife and console from earning credits on halo:Reach. I was frustrated about this and could not figure out why I was banned last night. After going through this thread, I have come to realize that it is because my wife and I play on the same console, and that I am way better then her at the game. She is slowly improving, but has a hard time getting more then 4 kills per match at the moment. Although, this has never been an issue before in the previous months… So after following further into this random problem I have had, the true issue was when she was taking the controller and headset with her to continue her party chat with her friends, while doing some things around the house, and checking her facebook, I was not patient enough to wait, and start playing a few matches with her sitting idle, not realizing that it would be an issue. So I have no problem with the temporary ban(I have learned my lesson lol), but there is still the issue of her wanting to chat while I want to play, and as we are both on the same console, she can not back out while I play. Is there a way we can have that option so that there isn’t any future problems. And if I am way better, but we are using different accounts on the same console, is there still a chance that we can be banned again, I do not know how this all works, and I do not want any problems, just to play

You simply need to just sign her out, there is no way you can keep her signed in just in Party Chat, if she has to go somewhere, she will need to be signed out.
It may seem unfair but think about the team you get put on and you lose because your wife has zero kills and twenty deaths when they could have a team mate actually getting kills.
