Why Did I Get Banned - The Official Thread

Recently my sister decided to start playing on my Xbox with her friends. She made her own account and everything, and bought her own LIVE, etc. Halo Reach is the first shooter she has ever played, and she has had fun with it.

Today, she comes to me and asks why she got a message saying “This Xbox has been banned from receiving credits.” So of course, I wonder how a girl who has played the game for 2 days can somehow get an Xbox banned from receiving credits. She even confirmed to me that she had done nothing wrong, and had purely just played the game. It turns out, after a bit of studying, i found that if a player goes into a game, and plays and everything, has a good time, but sucks (which she should, I mean hell, anyone who just starts playing is gonna get a bunch of 0 kill games) they are going to get a credit ban? The only reason being for sucking? What is wrong with you people?!

Now honestly, since it is her account that she was playing as, if it was only her account that had gotten the credit ban, i wouldn’t have given a crap. She doesn’t even know what a credit is. But I log onto my account just to find, its my entire freakin Xbox that has gotten the ban. WTF? So now not only did my sister get a credit ban for sucking (which quite frankly is complete BS), but somehow my account is affected also? I mean come on! MY ACCOUNT did literally NOTHING WRONG, and IT GETS A CREDIT BAN? You guys talk about if someone gets on your account, and uses it to boost, you will get a ban since it is your account, and you’re in charge of it. This I agree with. But when someone else on a different account on your Xbox is boosting, sucking, whatever, you have no control over that. This is hardly fair, seeing as my account is squeaky clean, not even close to getting banned ever, keeping close to the rules, YET I CAN STILL GET BANNED SOMEHOW.

So I’m pissed. I don’t care if its Bungie, 343, or whoever that installed this new ban hammer system, just somebody please help me out. I’ve already kicked her off of my Xbox, and told her that if she wants to play, she has to buy her own, but can somebody please help me? I hope that I’ve made it clear that this credit ban was definitely not deserved. I mean how do you expect more people to play your game when you ban them for just beginning to learn the game?

343, please don’t get on my bad side before I’ve even played one of your games. Just help me out and lift this BS credit ban at least off of my Xbox. It doesn’t matter if you keep her account banned. Just lift it off the Xbox, so I can keep playing your game.

From a pissed-off future customer,
GT: Purist Thunder.

It might help, if you’d post said games, where she got 0 kills in.
If those games are ‘clean’ some admin might unban the xbox.

Hi, I am not sure if I am currently credit banned. I have no message or warning or anything so I am not sure.

Whenever I get out of a match or anything all the credits and slot rack up showing me how much I get and it acts like I would be gaining credits, but it doesn’t give them to me. It just looks the same as if I was to gain the credits except they are not actually being added.

(I did hit my daily credit limit and I usually do every day, but the new day has arrived and I am not getting credits still… if you think this may be the case)

Please, can you guys tell me what is wrong and if I am credit banned or something.

Thanks in advance,
Elite Process

Well, in order to try to help here as much as i can, it would be helpful if you could tell me what her gamertag is. Secondly, tell me if the ban is permanent or temporary. Thirdly, i understand that you are pissed off but your console is banned also in order to prevent some guys from swapping profiles and “overtake” the ban! I just mention it as a piece of information.

After the end of the game it shows you +0? Or +X amount of cR and you don’t get them finally? Though, if it was a ban you would have been informed through a pop-up message…

Try clearing your Xbox 360s cache, redownloading the Title Update and then change your Xbox’s time zone to something that is a day ahead and then see if you can earn credits, then I believe it’s because you have somehow hit the cap for the next day, just give it 24 hours or so.

I keep getting this warning on Halo: Reach about if I leave another game I’m getting a temporary ban and I did but when I went back on Reach I get the same warning and it keeps happening whenever I leave a game once and it’s been happening for the past couple days and I don’t know what’s going on.

You quit too much. Pretty plain and simple. It doesn’t reset just because you got the ban, you’re on the poop list until you stop acting like a -Yoink- and just play what you’re given.

I have lol I played a lot of games without quitting then when I get on the next day the message still shows up.

I was wondering when this was going to be addressed?

> > Today I was banned from earning credits while playing Halo Reach. The message popped up in the middle of my game and told me I could no longer earn credits.I assume this was due to the automated system assuming I was AFK. I wasn’t AFK, I’m just not very good.

When is this going to be addressed?

Custom Games aren’t under the “Matchmaking” area so the server doesn’t necessarily apply. It’s not searching/matching for players. The message is exactly what it says: Just a server issue. Wait it out.

343 you have failed at running halo and our tu update is even worse why dont you head for the stars and bring bingi back cause you guys dont know how to run halo at all and you effed up the look of the halo ring in the aniversary trailer…omg you guys just shouldnt tamper with what bungi put into place cause you FAIL 343 you need to clear out of the halo project.

I would really like to know when my mute ban is over. I’m still in my second mute ban and it’s been over a month now. I’m tired of people sending me messages telling me to listen to orders when driving the worthog or carrying the objective, let alone the many flaming messages I’ve received for not helping as a team when I have a wraith, sniper, etc. even when I’m defense with a shotgun in a hemerage (misspelled, I know) base. Not only can I not hear them, I obviously can’t tell them where the enemy sniper or where the objective is, even a simple “watch out behind you”.

I know I could join up into parties, but most people I play with don’t want to play what I prefer playing.

I’ve recently shown some betrayals because of people attacking not only attacking their own team mates, but myself as I. In my recent game, a player with the call-sign of A10 killed my friend, who is in the same RL room as I as we play, just because he got the sniper first. After seeing that, I saw it as the last straw, chased him up the walkway to the cave and gave him a sticky. Instant boot. (Why didn’t he get booted for killing my friend in the first place, 343?)

I will admit there has been one weird accidental betrayal. My teammate had the wraith, an enemy jumped on it’s back, I tried shooting him off, then I got a betrayal for it. Wraith was not that damaged to begin with.
Yesterday I pulled off a betrayal bug during infection. I shot gunned a guy as I was getting infected and got a betrayal. Now that I see funny.

Ok, i’d like to start off by saying that I know most of the reasons for being banned. I understand what credit boosting via checkpoint abuse in campaign is, I know what the network disconnect/reconnect with commendations glitch is, I know about afking and using other players cooperation to get rediculous medals and fill commendations faster than you should.

I know what cheating is, and I have done it once before, and got banned for it almost immediately so I know how stupid it is to try to get away with it. They will catch you, literally. However, a couple days ago I was playing halo with my wife, I had only been on 3-5 hours a day with her for the previous few days. I hadn’t been playing halo much at all before that due to the Battlefield 3 Beta, and prior to that I have never boosted or glitched in any way save for that first time when I learned my lesson. Anyways, I was playing with my wife and all of a sudden, mid-game even, a message pops up saying BOTH of our accounts are banned and our xbox 360 is banned.

I am concerned with why this could have happened not because I am pissed off at bungie (though I am a little), not because I think it’s unfair (though it is a little), but no, I’m concerned because I want to know what I did so that I can avoid it. I love Halo, I fell in love with it since the very first day I played combat evolved back in 2002 with the big clunky american style controllers. I would not do anything knowing I could be sacrificing my gaming experience with it, the only reason I cheated the first time was because I didn’t know having friends on the enemy team working with you to get you kills was ban-worthy, or even that you could get banned from earning credits at all.

We were literally just sitting there playing and it’s like “Oh hey my names Bungie and i’m going to ruin your experience with the game you bought, k thx hope you bend over and take it with our titles in the future too”. We didn’t even have headsets in to be trash talking and we didn’t send anyone any kind of dirty messages to anyone. Her account is no longer banned but mine is still and so is our 360, so I know that the suggestion someone had that maybe the auto-banner thought she was afking (because she’s not very good and was only getting deaths and assists in some games) was not the problem.

If 343 is going to continue with this merciless and senseless automatic ban feature in reach and in future titles, they should at least have the common courtesy to say why you were banned and how long it will last in the message so you are not left in the dark on when your favorite game will be fully enjoyable again.

2 nights ago on Tues. I was having problems in matchmaking around 2 a.m. AZ time. I would find other players vote for a map then while it was loading the map it booted me from that group and automatically sent me to find new players. It did the same thing four or five times maybe. I finally decided to reboot my modem and try again. First try I loaded the map and was playing. Half way into the game, a warning popped up saying I have been quitting to many games and the next would result in a ban. A few games later, (without quitting or dropping out) I recieved a message in matchmaking lobby stating I had a ten minute ban. I said oh well, turned it off and went to bed. Tonight, Thurs. I turn it on and I get another message saying I have been quitting to many games next one will result in ban!!! I havent even played since tuesday night! Why am I all of a sudden getting ban warnings for no reason?

Hello, I’m looking for help with a friends ban and would appreciate any info. The gamertag is IKnowYouKnow0 and he has received a “credit ban” for a week now. Their Internet connection is sometimes spotty but from what I’ve read that isn’t supposed to be factored into the ban criteria. We would appreciate any explanation, just trying to understand what happened so it doesn’t happen again in the future. Thanks in advance.

im not a seasoned player and i dont normaly stay away only when im on the phone. ive only accidentaly missed two games in a row. PLEASE WRITE BACK I AT LEAST WONT TO KNOW HOW LONG AM I BAND!
