This morning my son, gamertag ArmedJosh117, discovered that he has received a temporary console and account ban from Matchmaking in Halo Reach, I finally found this website and forum that provides possible reasons as to why he was banned.
The message on the XBOX360 does not state why he was banned or for how long.
After reading the top thread the only reason that I can think of was that I called him away from the XBOX last night to do some jobs for me, I advised him not to exit the game as he would only be away for a few minutes (not realising that AFK is bannable).
The task he had to do took considerably longer than anticipated, once he had finished the task he returned to the XBOX and turned it off due to the late hour.
This morning when he began to play the game the ban message appeared on the screen.
Can you please advise on the reason of the ban and how long it is supposed to be in duration for?
Yes it could, but i was playing with him. It was the first time playing swat, and his aim is terrible. I have the games saved locally and could put them up on file share if need be.

Yeap it’s exaclty what you’re thinking of, he got temporalily banned for AFKing…
just a quick question iv never been banned for this but one poster said impersinateing bungie or 343 um i have my tag as 343 sometimes just to show that i love 343 just like people have put there tags as -Yoink!- for bungie can that get me banned for impersination cause its harmless just curious scence it is automated?
09.18.2011 recived the message you have been banned from playing in matchmaking for two weeks (halo 3), well my two weeks of punishment have gone, I can see on my profile matchmaking, my question is, when we can play again? I understand that for a matter of accurate but this is already late. If anyone wonders why I was banned, was invited to take achievements afk (exp boost not on purpose)
hello my gamertag is slik4life369,and this morning when i turned my xbox 360 on ,and put halo reach a message popped up saying this xbox 360 console has temporaily been banned from earning ,and another message popped up said the samething but this time my account has been banned.please i really dont know what i did.im just saving credit to get the high voltage i never had this in my life every credit i earned was earned the honest way please take this bann off please.

I know you all are going to think I am one of those kids who have nothing better to do than play video games and without being able to “level up” and be better then others that it makes me upset…quite untrue however disturbing. Not being able to get credits really is annoying, what happened right before I got the notification was a match in grifball, an oddly fun game where your temptation to spam the gravity hammer is settled…but for some reason now I am unable to get credits…go ahead and look at my gaming history, please do as I need tips on why this has happened. My gamertag is “Lushikute”, can provide any info needed…just want to know what in the heck happened.
I understand the reason for getting banned for doing things like betraying teammates or quitting a lot. And I understand that the computer reads the data it is given so there is no favoring involved. However, what you fail to mention and iwhat is behind the sad mutliplayer matchmaking is the fact that computers cannot obtain statistics on people that act like children, people that are just very very bad, etc. By this, I mean people who cannot hold their bladder and cry to mommy cuz they did not get the weapon. So they beat you in the back over and over waiting until your shield recharges between each melee. What about the skill setting? Why does it match me up with kids that are terrible. I end up going +15 or +20 actually sometimes and that is cool but give me some damn competition by pairing me against my own skill level. What is that based on? I bring this up b/c this irritates me when my teammates are absolutely horrible and either don’t play or get maybe a few kills and go negative double digits so I kill them.
This is what the computer can and should do. Read the stats, all the stats. They can then use those stats to boot people instantly who melee their own teammates cuz they want a weapon, or instantly boot people that betray a teammate. They should also be able to pair like skilled player together and also boot players who don’t play and whose controller is simply sitting there. There are just too many children playing this game now and because the game was taken over by children, it has become a joke. This all leads to people who betray eachother. On top of the pathetic betray/booting rules, All the maps are terrible. No one even plays slayer anymore, they play Living Dead. What a joke! 343i, you are a joke and you have taken a great game in Halo and ruined it. You suck!
Also, put some rules in place to ban people who use boot machines that kick people off by selecting their IP address. And also people who lag the game out. So again, 343i you have made Halo terrible. Thanks for nothing! You suck
over the past year iv’e experienced 2 bans of which (both) were in fact unrightfully assigned. though I simply waited them out or played how I usually do.
fact was some time ago when an update came out I loaded up to the point of voting but then everyone got dropped out.
and no it wont me I have a good connection constantly well above fair anyway.
it happend like 3 or 5 times and I got banned
see, fact is I never drop out unless it a super rare condition
even if my team leaves me alone againts an enemy team of 8 on 1 with scorpions, banshie ect. I would die far beyond 40 but I still guarentee that I never quit just cause I want to.
so all I can advise is for the one’s who’s hopes are shot. just take your when in game make up majority of your team with friends to minimize quiters.
avoid getting on if your connection isn’t in the best of conditions.
play a gametype you can find yourself enjoying and not some random one otherwise you could get upset.
dont worry about a ban unless you are the type who quits to join friends consitantly

This is something I would like looked at as well, I haven’t had to many issues as of late, but thats because I have a laptop size modem now (twc is horrible internet imo).
I have been basically dropped from a game due to poor connection, and then threatened with a "You quit to much, if it happens again you will be temporarily banned from MM for “x’ amount of time”
I understand that people do, do this…either they aren’t having the game that they think they should be having, don’t like the map that was chosen or something else…I for one however, quit very rarely…If i am in a game, and the rest of my team leaves, and I am getting stomped, I may leave…or if I am in Multi Team, and the idiots continually chosen Rocket Hog, I may quit also (really do you people read the daily challenge list…ever?)
However, a majority of my “quitting” is due to my poor internet connection, I do not feel that it is right to punish someone who is already being punished with crap internet…Just a thought…
Just curious what the reason for my credit ban was.
I played last night with a guest, who was playing for the first time and still learning the game. Last night was the first time I had played in ages. If the ban is for her sucking than thats a tad absurde, if not then what was the issue?

So you think it’s okay for 2-15 other players to suffer through your lag fest so you can play? No. Find out the issue with your internet and get it fixed, then you can play the game.
Get rid of the one person causing the issue so the other players can enjoy their experience… it’s that selfishness that I can’t understand.

I agree that TWC isn’t the best internet, but it’s still YOUR connection. Not exactly their service that’s causing the issue. Your modem might be faulty or it’s an internal cable problem. The point is, the responsibility is on you. If your internet service is unacceptable, change services or upgrade. I have TWC myself but I’m also directly connected via cable and I have the best package deal. My 'net is perfectly fine.
i got a temp earn credits ban, don’t have a clue why, but after reading some of these i think it is because i am finishing with 0 kills, i am new and very crap, i am trying very hard but just not that good, i really can not understand why you get a ban for this, surly it cant be helped by players like me.
it is very disappointing that this is allowed to happen, some one please help as i have tried to contact people and just dont know what i am doing
