> A couple days ago, I was given an ingame message about how I was credit banned for 24 hours. I have no idea what I did wrong exactly, but I read a few times that people getting 0 kills counted as credit boosting and that caused them the credit banned? If that’s the case, lemme tell ya something. First off, the only game mode I play is Team Snipers. Usually with one or two of my brothers, but mainly on my own. Second, for each game of Team Snipers I play, I get at least 20+ kills EACH game. So I’m not “credit boosting” by getting 0 kills and staying afk. Thirdly, one of my brothers happens to be 5 years old and plays as a guest of mine. He’s the one that gets 0 kills. If that’s the cause of my credit ban, than that’s painfully unjust. If not, can someone explain to me as to why I got credit banned that day?
Unfortunately, your brother using a guest account is indeed the cause of the ban due to him getting games with 0 kills in matchmaking. Bungie implemented this as part of their banhammer to prevent people from using multiple idle accounts repeatibly to set up boosting grounds as well as ruining the gameplay experience of others by having idle guests intentionally present.
Basically, if a guest account gets 0 kills due to this, it counts against the main account the guest is linked to and the main account gets the DNF penalty. It’s not unjust at all, it was Bungie’s way of making sure people with multiple controllers were not violating Code of Conduct by cheating in matchmaking as well as making sure those players were not ruining the gameplay experience for others. Imagine if you were to enter a Slayer game and you were to see -Name, -Name(1), -Name(2), and -Name(3) as a party and when you got into the game, -Name was playing, but -Name(1), -Name(2), and -Name(3) idled the entire game. Now if you wanted to seriously play in this scenario, you would feel cheated of your gameplay and rightfully so, which is the reason why Bungie did this.
Another example were to be, let’s say name had this set up as his team as mentioned above, and -Name was with three friends, Let’s use -Jimmy, -Ralph, and -John as his friends. You join this party of seven for a good game of slayer when you find out -Name, -Jimmy, -Ralph, and -John were hosting a boosting party using -Name’s guest accounts. You wanted to play Slayer, but these guys did not, so these guys would become passive agressive by -Jimmy, -Ralph, and -John intentionally knocking out your shields while -Name gets the kill on you everytime. And then it turns out -Name had friends over, so he has his friends take control of the guest accounts and kill you with them too. Basically Bungie was preventing boosting parties, cheating, and hazing of players who would come into said parties and want to play normally by doing this and in doing so holding up Code of Conduct as well.
Sadly, there are inexperienced players who get the banhammer because of this, or in this case you due your younger brother using your guest account and not getting any kills. Unfortunately, you will have to wait out your cR ban. May I recommend playing Firefight Matchmaking if you’re going to play online with your younger brother? It would allow him to get a better feel for Reach while you two can have fun, get kills, and not get cR banned at the same time.
