Why Did I Get Banned - The Official Thread

ah 343 how long am I banned for I would really like to know so could you guys let me know and could you also tell me the ban lift times please

I was banned from earning credits but WAS NOT BOOSTING! I was just playing for a really long time! Now I don’t even want to play halo reach just cause I’m afraid of being credit banned for a week and the permanently is there any way to fix this?

I have one DNF due to having to change my little one and when I came back to play in the next game I received a ban?

Good evening,

Looking through your game history, your most recent game was in 2014, dunno if the servers are messed up, odd. Anywhom, looking through what is available, between 06/09/2014 through 07-02-2014, out of 15 games, you have 6 games with 0 kills. Zero kills is considered AFCing/AFKing (Away from Controller/Idling) and is considered the same as a DNF, hence those were counted against you as well. You also have two games where you have no kills and a negative kill score.

So combined, within the last 15 games shown, you have 8 games treated as DNFs due to no kills, that is half of your last set of games, so the one that did not show up that you quit or were lagged out of added to the 8, so out of the last 16 games, you were treated as DNF in 9 of them, mostly due to 0 kills, which is why the automated banhammer issued a ban.

In the future, I would recommend at least getting one kill per game and finishing your games completely to avoid being issued another automated ban again. Hope this helps and have a nice day now.

I need some help, I was in a custom game with some of my friends and someone popped in and began messing with everyone’s account. Hacking or something according to one of my friends. I didn’t think anything of it. We all went to matchmaking and I lagged out of their lobby when the match started and I received an error message that said “This account has been banned permanently from Halo Reach Online”

I don’t know what happened, I don’t get it, I didn’t change anything. I’m thinking though that this hacker or whatever they are did something too, my friends are saying after I got banned they found changes on their accounts on Halo Reach like settings and stuff different.

How can I get my account on Halo Reach unbanned for something that I didn’t do?

Good evening.

Unfortunately, the automated banhammer has apparently banned you on the basis of breaking LIVE’s Code of Conduct of Knowingly playing with other modders, which is a bannable offense. It also looks like you were banned for having your Spartans four letter/number service tag extended beyond four characters, not to mention having characters other than letters, numbers, and spaces in it ( E< is five characters with characters not normally allowed, only obtainable via modding). Also, were you an Inheritor before this hacking instance occured? If not, you were also banned from Reach for being in a lobby with a player who used mods to max your rank out.

This type of ban is not reversible due to Code of Conduct being broken and you going ahead and playing with a modder who you knew who was modding instead of leaving the second you knew what was going on. You should have left the lobby the second you knew one of the people in the lobby was a modder. Had you done that, this likely wouldn’t have happened.

From the LIVE Code of Conduct page:

-Don’t cheat or tamper. For example, don’t:

  • Make unauthorized modifications to your account profile or its contents (e.g., tenure, Avatar, game saves, Gamerscore, achievements)

  • Intentionally play with someone who is using unauthorized software or methodsThe only way to continue playing Reach would be to start a new LIVE account, sorry to say it, but that is the only way for you to do so at this point is to start over. Hope this helps and have a nice day now.

I got console banned from halo reach after my friend signed into my account and modded my service tag (without asking me) and went into matchmaking. It really sucks because I am never allowed to play the game that got me into the Xbox 360 in general. after years of playing I finally ranked up to forerunner to wake up the next morning with a message saying this console is permantly banned from playing halo:reach multiplayer". if anyone knows a way I could fix this and get unbanned reply. (My gamertag is Ruzae)

Sorry OP, but if your console has been permanently banned then it won’t be reversed. It’s the downside of letting other people have access to your account I’m afraid, if you haven’t already I would remove your friends access to your account so something like this can’t haappen again.

Why did i get banned i was playing grifball got off and went on my xbox 1 hour later and i was banned what did i do

Even if you dont take away my suspension how long is it

I dont blame you they say everything is cheating playing grifball and getting cR cheating like really

Good morning.

Looking through your Halo: Reach game history, I was able to find alot of Slayer matches as well as Infection matches where you either left early or had 0 kills (Which counts as AFKing/AFCing). In the last week alone, you did not complete at least 16 games from what I can tell, of those six of them you had zero kills in, so 16 games out of your last 60 games in the last week were considered AFKed/DNFed by the automated banhammer and due to that, you were likely issued a temporary ban for that.

My recommendation in the future is to play your games through completely to ensure you are not issued a temporary ban again by the automated banhammer, even if a game isn’t going well for you. Hope that helps and have a good day now.

Hi,
I have been playing Reach for around five years, specifically in the Double Team playlist, and I recently was permanently banned from entering matchmaking. I did receive a one week ban several months before the permanent ban, but I didn’t give it any thought because I was certain it was a mistake. I used to play Double Team quite often with my friend, almost everyday, and we were known for being quite good. Our behavior in matchmaking consisted of winning mostly, but seldom to never quitting any games. My fear is that skill is being misinterpreted as cheating(something that I am sometimes accused of by new players). My friend has also had this issue and I am sure he has reached out for help, but has not told me of any solutions, other than buying a brand new Xbox just to play our favorite game! Surely 343i doesn’t intend for us to resort to this solution. I have logged a number of hours in Reach and amassed stats that I am proud of and that I would hate to lose unjustly. If it is at all possible for my ban to be lifted that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your attention.

Good morning.

Question for you if you don’t mind? I know this maybe an odd one, but did the other team (Even if it was different people) consistently quit on you early from you and your friend ‘cleaning house’ ? If so, unfortunately, from what I understand (As I seen this happen a couple of times in Halo 4 with it’s banhammer) that if the other team is consistently quitting, the automated banhammer for the way it was programmed is percieving you as boosting your Win/Loss ratio, which is why it issued the ban.

It sounds dumb, but the banhammer was programmed this way to prevent easy boosting of any type with Team Doubles, from Win/Loss Ratio, Kill/Death Ratio, Commedation boosting, etc. If it picks up a pattern where the opposing team, even if it is a different team in each instance seems to be quitting to a team who keeps winning, unfortunately it will percieve the winning team as boosting and issue a ban.

So in your case, kudos to you for your skill, but it’s a combination primarily of the way the banhammer is programmed and a little bit of your amazing skill (Causing people to rage quit alot says alot about how good you are  ) that has caused this ban to occur. So if it is a profile ban, you will have to create a new account to keep playing. If it is a console ban, well, you will have to find a way to get a new console to keep playing.

Trust me, it had nothing to do with people reporting you, it was the banhammer and the way it was programmed. I stayed away from Team Doubles in Halo 4 and Halo: Reach for this reason, unless I was doing a screenshot session of my friend and I from a game or two due to said reasons.

I hope this helps and have a nice day now.

Hi,

Playing on Xbox One and been credit banned for unspecified amount of time for unspecified reason.

Can you please tell me 1) Why? and 2) For how long?

Never been banned before on Xbox 360 in the six years I have been playing…

The messages:
INFORMATION: This Xbox 360 console has been temporarily banned from earning credits. (A) OK
INFORMATION: This account has been banned from earning credits (A) OK

GT: Ali B 1475

Thanks,
Ali

Good morning.

I looked into your Halo: Reach game History. I must say I am impressed you play a diversity of matchmaking gametypes, tip of the hat to you for that. It seems that at the first message based upon your game history can easily be answered. Out of your last 31 matchmaking games, you have nine games with 0 kills, meaning you either didn’t get a kill or didn’t finish your game. The automated banhammer considers 0 kills in a matchmaking game as Idling/AFCing/AFKing. It must’ve issued a temporary ban on the basis that you quit too many games or AFKed through a good handful of recent games.

Now if the second message isn’t a glitch (I’m basing that off that it showed you both messages), there are a couple ways you could’ve been permabanned from earning cR. There is no grifball in your recent history, so exploiting the performance bonus system and spawncampkilling has been ruled out. Your account has no signs that it has been modded, so that is also ruled out. other two ways you could’ve been permabanned from earning cR is either being a repeat offender to DNFing/AFKing your games to a severe degree; or if you used network manipulation to reset challenges to cheat the system and be given extra cR you shouldn’t have. You know the way you play, so I’m not going to delve into this and in the same retrospect, it threw you both messages, which is likely a glitch.

Hope this helps and have a nice day now.

Hi,

Thanks for the response!

I have looked at my Game history and for some of those “0 Kills” I actually got kills so don’t know why it says 0…

The second message should actually be “account temp ban” rather that just account banned… Typo

As for the reasons: I have NEVER used Net-Manip (I have a wireless Xb1) nor have I repeatedly been AFC in matches as I always play until finished then if I need to go AFC I go back to the main menu/lobby…

Whether this is a glitch or not I would like it resolved ASAP…

Do you know when this will be fixed?

Thanks,
Ali

Can I get some information about my character reset? I was an inheritor and didn’t have my xbox for a few weeks came back and all my progress was gone because bungie thought I was hacking because I racked up credits in grifball

I recently got a temporary credit ban after leveling up to Brigadier. I just want to know why I got it in the first place and how long it is.
