Why Did I Get Banned - The Official Thread

OK set up a free account for my son, 7 years old. I will admit I didn’t set the account up as a kid, i did the join xbox deal got to the date and then got the message to go to xbox.com and set up a child account. Well I was tool lazzy and just changed his year to make it an adult account. now since he is not soo good, a few 0 kills we’ve been banned from earning credits… question. If I set up the account as a child account will that lift the ban? i get the cheating thing but he is just not good yet.

Salut salut,
J’ai bien compris que si on a été banni de credis on ne peut rien y faire mais je voudrais savoir pendant combien de temps et pourquoi car je ne connait pas la raison.
Merci Patou 0013

Hi, my younger brother was playing Reach last night, and insisted that he did nothing that violated any of the ban criteria, the only thing he said was even remotely close to an issue was that another player kept harassing him in game and my brother ended up betraying him and he got booted from the game. I read through the rules in being banned and I didn’t see where that was a problem, yet I still got the in-game message for the temporary credit ban on my account and console. Could I please get some clarity on this? My gamertag is Bearded Mac. Thank you.

Did he quit or AFK?

That will ban you.

I was playing Reach a couple days ago, and I was doing pretty well all night. I was getting almost 30 kills every game, and after a 55 kill Grifball game, I jumped into another match. 2 minutes in to it, I got a pop-up saying I was temporarily banned from earning credits. I don’t know what I did, or if they think I’m hacking but I would like an explanation.

To all the people osting about being Banned in Halo 4. Please do not comment here as this is a Halo Reach thread. Any questions regarding Halo 4 bans should be done in the Halo 4 section of the forum.

> I had just gotten my Xbox back from a friend who has been borrowing it for near a year and when I got to the main screen for Halo 4 it had said that the entire console had been banned. Why would my entire console be banned? Do you really expect me to buy an entirely new console just to play Halo 4?? I did nothing wrong whatsoever with my account or my Xbox. I had planned on buying a season pass and nearly all the Halo digital extras cause I am a huge fan but apparently now I cannot. I really hope someone can get back to me with good news regarding this cause I know you guys don’t want to miss out on making more money off me

This should have been posted in the Halo 4 section of the Waypoint Forums, not Halo Reach section.

To answer your question, just because you didn’t do anything wrong on your console, it doesn’t mean that your friend didn’t. Regardless, permanent console bans from Xbox Live are just that: they are permanent. Somewhere along the line, your friend broke the Xbox Live Terms of Service agreement he agreed to when he joined XBL (or if he used your XBL account, what you agreed to). If he cheated/modded content/made any other infraction of the rules set, the appropriate action was taken and will not be reversed. Microsoft make it very clear in the ToS that they have every right to revoke anyone’s access to XBL if they feel that they have broken these rules once a full investigation is done.

If he used your account instead of his own, then that still doesn’t warrant a ban reversal, since (as stated in the ToS) you XBL account is your own resposibility. If you didn’t want him to use it, you should have deleted it from the console and recovered it when you got it back.

Okay so I was playing matchmaking with a friend and after a few games it said my account was banned from playing matchmaking for a week. I wasn’t boosting or anything so It would be nice to see why I was banned. Thanks in advance.

I have played you before and this is due to you being good and noobs dash-boarding. Its so sad.

Sorry for posting in the wrong spot! (New to waypoint forums) Anyways i am banned on reach for people dash-boarding in doubles. Sadly people refuse to play me due to my kd,list, etc. After my first one week ban for it i was confused, but talking to other top 100s they told me why. They say if someone dash-boards to switch playlists, but i want to play dubs! Anyway if you look at my waypoint games history, you can clearly tell im legit, im not going to cheat and get rid of negative players.

Please help 343 thanks (:

The game likely thought you were cheating sadly. Im banned forever because people quit. Just try to make sure everything is good with your connection before you play. Also this is for Halo: Reach, but its cool (:

did it quote?
hmmm

Same here. If you played dubs its because people dash-boarded. Happened to me. Next time your account and xbox will be banned forever. Its pathetic, that we are punished because others quit. just sad. That is if you werent playing on a modded xbox or something. Yet the real cheaters do not get banned on reach. BS if you say they do. I watched a couple of fresh modders. It was the most viewed clip that day.

Looked at your waypoint and its due to kids dashboarding dubs. Makes me sad :frowning:

Ahh I see… I guess I just won’t play doubles anymore. If being a good player means I will be banned again

You have not been banned because people quit your games. I have never seen any player get banned because other players quit. The banhammer never gets console bans wrong and in thousands of halo games over the years i have never met a person whos ban was not justifiable. It gathers a lot of technical information about the host, NAT issues, and game stats and looks for patterns that indicate foul play.

You have an extraordinary high win% in doubles and you have won games where the other team supposedly quit when they were ahead. Why would players quit when they are ahead.

Team doubles and Arena are rife with players who manipulate network conditions to secure host of the game. The host can use software to see the incoming IP addresses of players connecting to the game and they use this information to host boot players from the game to gain an advantage. ( i think you may already know this anyway) Yes it looks like they have quit the game but in fact the banhammer can tell the difference between a quit and someone being disconnected from XBL.

Rather than blaming Bungie or 343 i would look at either your own behaviour or look at who you play doubles with as the banhammer has seen something it doesnt like and dealt its timely justice.

No one from 343 will lift your ban or monitors these forums. The mods here are just players like the rest of us.

Snickerdoodle my apologies in advance if i have broken any forum rules but someone had to call this out for what it is.

my roommate’s xbox and my account got a temporary ban from earning credits and i am not sure why. it didnt tell me for how long i was banned and it didnt tell me why i was banned.

For some reason when im 200k cR less to rank up, Im always getting banned. I don’t show any AFK activity but cause im mainly the one getting spawn killed and almost Forerunner, But seriously It happens every time I rank up and I hit the cR limit 2 times is that why?

> my roommate’s xbox and my account got a temporary ban from earning credits and i am not sure why. it didnt tell me for how long i was banned and it didnt tell me why i was banned.

Back on the 30th you had a few games when your guest account got zero kills in the game. The system detect this as AFK activity and awards a temporary ban from earning credits. first offence is 2 days. second offences are a week with habitual offenders given perma bans if you keep offending.

thank you very much we were all perplexed.
