Why Did I Get Banned - The Official Thread

> Me my 5 and 7 yr old son were playing for the first time in a couple of weeks, my 5 yr old does not get very many kills and mostly has fun driving in vehicles in big team when we play. We got banned yesterday, we played maybe an hour or so and neither my 5 yr old or 7yr old are very good but they both have fun playing. So I am wondering why we got banned when we rarely play and they just want to have fun playing with me. I dont even know how long this ban is for and my real question is if we start playing again are we just going get banned again. I know some people might be trying to take advantage of the system but what about the little guys like my boys who just have fun playing. We have never boosted “ever” and getting punished because they are not the greatest of players is wrong. they dont get many kills but they are active the whole game. they were guests on my account and I know I was getting quite a few kills every game so I dont even know how this can be mistaken for boosting if that is what we were mistakenly banned for.

This is exactly why the game developers need to iron out these issues. Gamers getting banned for no reason.

Sorry to hear that, but please keep in mind this game is Rated “m” for mature. (+17 and older, the rules/triggers for the ban hammer are designed as if everyone here is at least 15 years of age)

> I dont even know how long this ban is for

A day, two days, a week. It depends on how many offenses you have on record.

> my real question is if we start playing again are we just going get banned again.

Yes, but no worries. The only “ban” for earning 0 kills is a credit ban. So, if you only goal is to play and have fun, this ban does not stop you. Credit ban doesnt prohibit you from using any in game items/weapons. Credits are only used to buy decorations/voices. These are rewards and I’m sorry but rewards need to be earned (with at least 1 kill from each controller, each game. You dont need to win, just meet that minimum participation requirement of 1 kill)

It is an automated system. Sorry things cannot be perfect. Again, this is a easy thing to avoid or not care about if you only goal is to play and have fun. There are many offline gametypes you can play where your child’s lack of skill will bother no one. Even online, there is firefight where you are facing computer badguys, you 5 year old can easily get that 1 kill. Good luck and I hope you can read into what I am telling you. Your sons controller needs to have one kill on record to avoid the “Zero kill Ban”

hey guys i was playing a good old game of halo reach and well i was trying to get to nova and ive been going hardcore with infection and i keeped getting 1st place and im not sure if that triggered somthing because mow im permanitly banned from halo reach matchmaking also it says my conslole is permaitly banned from halo reach online and i was woundering if the ban could be reset because i love halo i play it every day i could and even got my friend to buy halo reach so we could play together and now i cant play it at all im a high rank and i dont want that reset…im so close to nova and i just got 100% armor so if there is anyway i could get the ban removed that would mean the world to me.
thanks,
GodMagic

extra: if needed 8 will provide my email to talk more about the problom.

GodMagic after looking at your game history it seems that you had a few games with a score of zero. I couldnt open up the tab showing the stats but it seems like u were AFKing many of the games and the game banned you for it. If it wasn’t your first offence, you probably got a worse ban.

BTW: you were not getting first place every game

I was banned on Halo Reach for earning credits and do not know why or for how long please help. Thanks footballmanBOSS.

> I was banned on Halo Reach for earning credits and do not know why or for how long please help. Thanks footballmanBOSS.

“for earning” um, the closest thing to that is the daily credit cap. If earning credits is the cause (“for”) then don’t worry, you can earn more cr starting 2mro.

But if you mean “from credits” the only thing that triggers that is the 0 kill credit ban… to check if this is what you are experience please look at your record to see your recent games and if there are any games where you or members in you Party have 0 kills at the end of a game. If they did, then you may have triggered this ban.

are you sure that was the right day because it was early in the morning and i was getting ready for school and right befor i turned my xbox off i got banned yes i did go afk for like 3 min so i could get everything around to leave and right as i got infected i got banned i went to replay the game and it looks like the guy in my game did it…not from me afking or anything and im permanitly banned and the only other thing is i have got cr banned for playing grief ball but that was for 2 weeks then this happened about 2 months later sooo is there anyway i can get unbanned, ive been sooooooo bored lately.

thanks,

GodMagic

God magic i answered this for you in the topic you made the other day so please forgive the cut and paste of my response. I did have a detailed look into your game history and it seems from what i have learnt these last 2 years that your ban is justiefied and will not be removed.

My reply from the other post you made is:

You reap what you Sow. Looking at your game history you are a serial quitter and have lot of games with Zero kills which says you are a serial AFKer as well. If you have been permabanned you would of had plenty of temporary bans from both MM and earning credits over a long period of time. The first ones would of lasted 24 -48 hours then weeks then months and then for serious habitual offenders they finally say - You what this guy is still doing it and not getting the message so we will ban him permenantly. There is no right of reply. The whole ban system is automated and is 99.99% accurate. If you want to play Reach again you will need a new console as the ban probably has been placed on that and you will need a new gamertag as well.
If and when you do come back you will definetly need to change your game behaviour as well. Otherwise that new account will be on bans farily quickly which will once again lead to a perma ban if you repeat

I don’t know if this is where I ask for help, but I need some really bad.
I am new to xbox and especially the halo series. I have been playing left 4 dead with my wife for a while now and wanted some other game to play with her, so the games are not just about me. I knew halo has been around for a while and it seemed very popular to me but I never “got in it”, until now. So I never played any of the online stuff, as I only cared about the campaigns as if you are going to play multiplayer, you should probably go through the campaigns first to get a feel for the multiplayer action. So, I played though normal level, then the next level and man the last level is hard as heck. A lot of restarts and all. To break up the gruesomeness of dying so much I started playing the multiplayer aspect of the games. Then I would go back into the campaign and continue on using what I may of learned from online gameplay. Long story short, if you want to beat the hardest levels, you gotta go slow and proceed cautiously.
So I finally talked my wife into finally playing with me and we are playing for a while with a bunch of people and she gets a phone call. I don’t really notice at the time that she sets the controller down and is chatting away and I am “into” the gameplay. I am not the best as I only get 3-8 kills a game, but I am learning. I finish the game and ask my wife if she is going to play the next round or talk on the phone. She continues to talk. So I continue to play. Now I am not totally stupid and while playing with her on the phone I know I shot her a time or two, but I didn’t know it was not aloud. It wasn’t until a little later that my daughter; who noticed that her mom wasn’t playing, picked up her controller and continued her game, and a message came up saying something to the effect that I was no longer going to be able to get credits for playing halo. I hit the “A” button to continue out of message. At the end of game, I get another message saying to the effect that my console is locked from getting credit for the halo games. I didn’t understand why. And it wasn’t until my wife did some research and found this site that we realized that it was probably from the couple kills to either my wife or daughters character.
I really didn’t know that this was a issue and I do understand why these procedures where put in place. I don’t understand why a company making so much money from this franchise doesn’t have a better procedure for detecting people who are trying to get away with something. This is an isolated incident and that can be seen by viewing my game activity.
I have 2 real questions:

  1. How do I get my account, name, or whatever back into a status where I can start to accumulate credits again?
  2. Did I get this ban or restriction from when my wife was idle and I shot her or when I shot my daughter who was actively playing at the time the message came up?

Please help me start accumulating credits again as this was a mistake and now that I know this type of punishment can happen I will avoid it for future games. I am truly sorry.

As an inexperienced person to not only xbox, but halo as well it would be very nice if there was some kind of warning.

As a side note…I liked this game so much that I have gone out and bought halo anniversary, halo wars, halo 3, and halo odst. I have not started playing them yet as I like to go through and finish all of the levels and try to complete the achievements before going on to the next one. But (I don’t want this to be taken the wrong way as I am not threatening), if this matter can not be resolved I will have no choice but to take all of them back the store for a refund, as the store they were bought from has a great return policy. I will not be able to play or support a company that treats people unfairly for there inexperience.

First up Valiant, Welcome to Waypoint. Secondly dont post your contact details such as email addresses as there are some idiots on this site and it is against the rules i think as well. I suggest you edit your post and remove it.

Now to your Credit ban. The good news is it should only be a 48 temporary ban for the first offence. You are correct in presuming that the ban is for your Wife’s zero kill games. The ban system is Automated and detects zero kill games as AFK activity and as you earn credits just for participation they give you a ban if you dont participate. One zero kill gam will not do it. You would need a few in quick succession to trigger a ban. So if your Wife is playing MM with you make sure she gets at least one kill per game. Maybe grab her controller and get one kill for her if she is struggling to get one herself. This applies to any account guest or otherwise that is signed in on your Xbox as the ban itself is placed on the console and the account.

You may also try Firefight as an alternative to campaign as it would be hard to no kills in that game type and your wife would get some practice at the same time.

Anyway your ban should be lifted soon provided you have no more zero kill games. Subsequent offences will incur longer bans of weeks then months the a permenant ban for serious repeat offenders. No one from 343 will respond to you on these forums and the ban will not be lifted either. It is just us fellow gamers like you helping each other out.

I have been banned today for no apparent reason I’m the only one that uses my account and I can guarantee I have not been boosting credits or rigging my Xbox console. I hope you will immediately fix this problem as I am a loyal gamer and regular user of the Halo game series. And if Bungie happens to find something I’ve done wrong I hope to be notified precisely
Thank You.

WolfgangLove, Bungie does not run these forums anymore and no one from 343 will respond and lift your ban.The only people who respond here are feloow gamers like me who try to help out based on their experience they have had in the game.

Now to your ban. You didnt say what type of ban it is but in looking at your gamer history i would assume you have been banned from earning credits. The reason for this is that you have been playing a whole lot of games with guest accounts and in nearly everygame one of the guests or your self got zero kills. The automated process for banning people called the Banhammer has detected these zero kill games as AFK ( Away From Controller/Keyboard) activity due to the non participation of the guest accounts. For that they have given you a ban from earing credits. You need to have about 3 games of zero kills close together to be detected. First time bans last for 48 hours and they get longer if you keep repeating the offence. they can become weeks then months and permanent for serious repeat offenders.

What i suggest is when you play with guests accounts all of you have to get at least one kill per game to avoid banhammer detection.

Ok, so I’ve been on probation for a few days for quitting too many games. I get that. Then there are network difficulties in this game I was playing tonight, and the game never even started. I saw the player screen for like 3 minutes, then postgame, and I was banned for quitting. I DIDN’T QUIT THE GAME!

I get your frustration… but you are getting to hung up on the word “quit.” We call it a quit ban just because its easier than explaining DNF. But it seem to be the specific subject you need. DNF stands for Did Not Finish. No matter what the reason (quit, betrayal booted, host booted/fail to connect to host, error during host change, your line just dropping, whatever)

Each DNF on you record adds up as offenses. You might be asking “why doesn’t it only count intentional quits?” That is because if pressing the “quit” option when you press start can lead to a punishment… who in their right mind would ever push the “quit” option when they can just press home button and go to xbox home screen? or just unplug Ethernet? Or use other manners of disrupting connection so the can “quit” and be undetected.

Sorry but the only real method that works is to treat all DNF as equal.

Besides, most of these issues are user side… meaning your responsibility to obtain a stable connection. If you are constantly “lagging out” geting “discontented” in all cases, you started a game (even if you didnt see it) teammates where matched with you and no they are starting a game a man down… outnumbered and probably not happy about it. No matter what reason you earned the DNF, the damage to your team is the same and will be counted as such.

Hi I was playing Halo: Reach yesterday and in the last game I played a message popped up saying: “This account has been banned from Matchmaking for one week.” However I am not sure what have I done to break the rules this also happened to two of my friends last week. And if I did something wrong shouldn’t I get a mail or a message that says the reason Im banned for ?

I have been banned permanently from Halo: Reach’s matchmaking, for what reason? As I am am told and have experienced: The game system’s security believes that I am cheating in order to obtain wins in the Team Doubles playlist. I am skilled at the game, as is the teammate I usually play with. Allot of the players we face will quit out before the game is done and over with (Don’t like getting killed over and over. etc.)
I know of a few people who have had this happen to them and they lost their ability to play Reach on their xbox, but also their account forever. And for what? Being so skilled at the game, that others dont wish to play against me and my teammate (due either to them raging, or just not wishing to lose so badly, etc.)
Reach has been my favorite game since its release date, and I have spent mass amounts of game time on it. I was in the process of trying to get to the top of the leader boards on Halotracker.com in the Doubles playlist. I played at least 30 games a day, and alot of people would quit out on us. I got banned for a week earlier this summer because of this, but now its a console ban. I personally dont find it remotely fair in the slightest that I would get permanently banned from Reach’s matchmaking due to others not finishing their games.
I was told that the possibility of getting unbanned was slim, but it was there. I have been trying my heart out to try and get this ban lifted and even the people at microsoft’s support service told me not to give up and wishes me the best of luck.
Please let me know if you know anything about this and if it is reversible at all possible.
Thank You Immensely!
-Sleepicity

Sleepicity perma bans are only issued for major offences and serious repeat offenders. With what you are describing i gather you think that you may have been banned due to the system thinking you are host booting opposition players. That may not be the case but where you trying to manipulate the connection to get host in the game or force host to your friend you play with. This type of behaviour is rife in team doubles and in arena when people still played it.

The system that detects network manipulation is called the Banhammer and it has been around unchanged since Halo 3 and still used in Reach and Halo 4. It is 99.99% accurate and very rarely gets it wrong. Unfortunately for you there is no right of reply and this forum is not monitored by someone from 343 who will lift your ban. The only responses you will get on here is from fellow gamers who have played enough and heard enough stories to be able to advise you on why you may have been banned. You may want to try and PM BS Angel(the 343 Community liason) about it but dont hold your breath awaiting a reply.

I would say the guy who posted above you i Raichuhu i is in the same boat as he has copped a one week ban for what looks like a similar reason to you. Are you one of the friends he mentions that also got banned this week. If he keeps whatever he is doing up he will be on the perma banned list soon too.

No he is not the guy i mentioned but the thing is we/I never did something that i would have gotten myself banned i would not post here if i had broke the rules on purpose. So thats why it makes me so confuse because i have no idea what have i done wrong. And atleast I’d like to know the reason i am banned for.

firstly, thank you for having this thread. i was recently banned for what i assume was two weeks. after researching this i realize it had to be because of my 0 kills in a few games. i wasnt cheating or anything, i was just terribly inebriated. i was in a full party or more, and i wasnt afk if you watch the games. i do admit that a couple times i tried to find good hiding spots to camp in, mainly to not give the team a large amount of my deaths. a couple of games i went terribly negative so i was trying to be a team player, since i couldnt really land any shots. i dont know if being to drunk to score is against the rules, but all my friends i was playing with wanted me there either way. i was once banned for what must have been the same reason; though i had just assumed i reached the daily credit limit, because i played like 50 games that day. i really like playing this game and i hope that we can work this out. thank you for your time, i look forward to a response.
