Why Did I Get Banned - The Official Thread

> Got banned for no apparent reason. Let my girlfriend have a go at a few matches and the ban came up<mark>. The bot system is heavily flawed IMHO.</mark> You can’t punish someone who pays 50€ a year just because he let his noob friends have a go at the game. <mark>Stats don’t take into count a lot of info that actually counts.</mark> Hope <mark>bungie</mark> won’t be doing something like this on Destiny. I recently bought an Xbox360 <mark>just to have a go</mark> at the Halo franchise and all the xbox360 exclusives before next gen comes up. Coming from a PS3 owner, something like this has never ever happened On PSNPlus. Very positive about the Xbox experience, yet very disappointed by this ban. Got Killed 3 times by the same player with Betrayal and didn’t even get the boot option…<mark>.let my GF have a go at capture the flag and i get punished for it…</mark>

So much wrong with this post

  1. state your ban, (credit ban)
  2. the automated system is pretty lax. I ran several test intentionally attempting to trigger it, it takes a lot of effort to earn 0 kills and earn a credit ban
  3. earning 0 kills is understandable for new players, but no… That stat alone is reason enough to earn the 0 kill credit ban. Please state why you disagree.
  4. Bungie has no control over this game anymore… Any way, please speak in specifics or prepare to be ignored.
  5. 0 kill credit ban does not change any part of gameplay. It just withholds the reward of credits. Credits are basically your rank… So yes, poor performance is a legit reason to withhold credits/rank promotion. So nothing is stoping you or her from just playing and “having a go.”
  6. as far as betrayal system goes it has something to do with Damage to Enemy/Damage to Friends ratio. Likely he has a better ratio then you did at the time(doing tons more damage for his team than against, making you look like the instigator, having done 0 damage to the enemy and all). There is an amount of damage for the auto boot and and probably ratio for the option to pop up. Two boot systems working together. Sorry if others are more familiar with it then you and sorry you provoked one of those more familiar folks. Either way, you have not pointed out specific issues.

Sorry, but till performance improves… You will not rank up. This does not stop you from playing. This doesn’t stop your loved ones from playing. It puts you at no disadvantage when you play either. Rank is cosmetic. Armor is also cosmetic. If you wish to earn participation points… The minimum participation required of you is one kill per game. 0 kills = 0 rewards

> Yesterday my children and I started getting a 10 minute ban in matchmaking for “quitting”. Come back after a bit the game allows us on we get into a matchmaking game then after about 3 minutes there is a lag and the “other members” drop off. We finish the game and at the end we are notified that we are banned…AGAIN. The pattern is consistent…we are not “quitting the game”, we get CR for finishing just like normal. Please tell me what is up with this or where and how to find out.

This crap is still happening. It is like the system is knocking me off and blaming me for quitting. Still giving me full credit for finishing the game it says I quit. TimZaRob, do you have any insight as to what is happening here?..it is really frustrating. Do I need to post this in another forum?

It happens to me occasionally. I have the worst connection of all my friends. Your connection to who ever is host is terrible. Everybody didnt leave… You got dropped. Every one else stayed in and played. The best you could do is play a couple hundred double team matches and pray you build up a positive host record. Not likely to happen with your history though.

Tips:
Be sure to not use a wireless connection

Use open NAT settings

Avoid foreign hosts (if you can, join a team with players in your region…)

Avoid matchmaking during probation (especially btb) if you get disconnected while on probation, it’s back to time out for you. I feel your pain, that you aren’t “quitting” but it’s only called a quit ban. Your intentions aren’t what is found offensive, it’s your reliability. The point is, you left and you leave early often. These absences affect others, that’s what’s getting you banned. Even if you aren’t leaving on purpose, you should purposefully do something to be a more reliable teammate (perhaps even obtain a better Internet connection )

If it makes you feel better, here is a video of my old team laughing at my poor old connection.

Thanks for the reply and the video. I rebooted modem, router & power line…that makes the third time since this problem started. Third time is the charm…everything is working…Average Upstream / Open / Low no packet loss.
No lag and no drop. Have a great day.

That’s what I did every time my NAT was anything other than “Open”

Unless you know the passwords to your router’s settings… No other way to keep it open.

Wow I’ve played all the Halos so far and never had any problems. My daughter plays for 2 hours and account is banned from earning credits. This is amazing to me. I think that 343 may be trying to help EA out by giving people another option for the worst company in America. This is exactly why I bought a pc a year and a half ago and never looked back. Anyone else who is tired of this kind of crap from Microsoft and these other jokers should look into computer gaming. My comp is 1.5 yrs old, cost 700 to build and will destroy not only the 360, but the new Xbox One also. You may miss games like Halo, but when compared to the pc games, they quickly shrink to insignificance.

0 kills = 0 credits

0 kill = not playing = 0 credits

0 kills = you might as well be working for the other team, giving them free points and earning none for your team = 0 credits

Please encourage your daughter to play single player or offline modes (firefight, campaign or even custom games) before trying multiplayer matchmaking… At least till she can handle weapons enough to earn that single kill required for her to be considered a thinking human and not just a rubber band on a controller.

Also, credits do not affect gameplay.

Credits = rank promotions (rank is only decorative, you are not matched by rank, rank has no function in Reach)
Credits = decorative armore (does not affect gameplay, gives no advantage in game)
Credits = firefight voices… Voices… The do not hinder or enhance your character

All these a rewards, these rewards are given to players that earn them by playing a long time and putting in a minimum amount of participation. Please remember in a 4v4 the score goes to 50… If you are not scoring 10-12 points or more… You are not pulling your own weight. To avoid the ban… You only need 1… Just 1. It’s not a ridiculous requirement. Participate in the fight or earn 0 credits. 0 credit ban does not or your daughter from “just playing” but if you want those credits… Gonna have to play a bit harder, just a tad bit.

Okay ban claims in one place. So today i received a credit ban on my console and Xbox profile. I don’t understand why. There was no clear reason. When is this ban lifted?

Read the page you just posted on…

Last night I got a message saying that I was on temporary ban from earning credits. No reason given, my son was playing as a guest on my profile which he isn’t that good at halo. We also played a campaign mission just him and myself which we killed a bunch of UNSC marines (this is when I got my ban message). Is there a way to find out what kind of ban mine is. All of this happened on Halo 4.

Why was you killing UNSC Marines lol. I’m going to answer this anyway :stuck_out_tongue:

If you read the thread your credit ban is for earning 0 kills in matchmaking with one controller or another quite a few times or for quitting too many games.

Read the last few pages you will get the jist - Video links and all

> top three most common bans… Here you go
>
>
> <mark>Quit Ban</mark>: Triggered by multiple DNF games or Did Not Finish. Anything from Internet disconnecting, dashboarding, hitting quit, and being booted. None of these alone trigger the ban but multiple offenses will result in a 15 min ban, followed by a probation period. If a DNF is detected during probation period, longer bans can be dealt.
>
> <mark>Credit Ban</mark>: aka AFK ban. This ban is triggered by players who play as if they are away from their controllers. Please do not start games online if you don’t intend to play them. 0 kills = 0 credits. Such behavior is not to be rewarded with credits. (Usually triggered by friends and family playing online with your name or as a guest and getting 0 kills)
>
> <mark>Mute Ban</mark>: triggered when many other players manually mute you. If enough people have manually clicked the mute button, xbl decides to have you automatically muted. If people want to hear your voice, players must manually unmute you. This usually happens to people who use kinect mics too close to TV speakers that blast noise to other players headsets. Also common practice in competitive playlist to be blindly muted by the other team.

I just got a quit ban after a game I finished, again… So annoying. This is the third time in like two weeks. Is there delay on the banhammer or something? I don’t quit often but I play insanely much so I still get quite some quits per time period.

Pretty annoying. If it were at least to happen when I actually quit, it would be a little more fair…

No one cares if you actually “quit” or not, it’s simply “does your team suddenly have to deal with your disappearance?” No matter what reason (quit, lag out, booted) does not matter… Only thing that affects quit ban is frequency of departure and probation period. You departed during your probation period. You might think you do not quit often, but it’s often enough. Please don’t start a game you do not intend to finish.

How do I find out why and how long our bans will last? Xbox live support said we should have received emails explaining this but have not… These are our gamer tags CeOyBeRsA662 and King Cobra 662 please we would like a reply at your earliest convenience.
Thank you,
Cobra Eyes

Did you even read what I wrote? I finished the game, nothing went wrong I just killed stuff until the game ended. Then I got banned. So I’m wondering if there a delay in the system or if that must’ve been a glitch (if so it’s happened to me before).

You assume way too much about me. I never start games I don’t intend to finish. Last week I stuck out a BTB game of 3 vs. 8 even after teammates of mine betraying and quitting, the enemy ending up with guys lasering, sniping, and all vehicles that were still intact. We were getting slaughtered, I only managed to get some kills by rushing a rocket launcher and then hiding and camping with it (which I normally never do but it was the only way of achieving anything in that game…).
So don’t see as some yoinking quitter. I know how annoying it is, I play Team Slayer a lot and I know how much it sucks if your team quits or is inactive, that’s why I never quit unless there’s some very good reason to. I’ve never been afk in game, my connection is amazing so I never ever lag out, and I’ve never quit when there wasn’t either horrible lag, people constantly betraying me, or terrible odds (= 1 vs 3 or more) after my team leaving first.

So I’m credit banned, didn’t do anything wrong, and I can prove it since I can just go into my game footage and save every instance for my last game sitting. So please, tell me how I can be unbanned today.

Oh, and my campaign progress has been reset, so if I could have that restored I’d love that too please. Thanks.

Yes I read it. And my reply is still accurate to what you wrote bud. I didn’t address the part about the possible “delay” because I have no such info.

And I assume nothing. I’m going by your words + your records + what is known of the quit ban. I even tell you the reason of departure is not relevant… Yet you feel the need to share a reason… All that matters is how often you leave and if you were on probation. “This is the third time in two weeks” no, it’s actually just one quit ban you received and you violated the probation period. While on probation, a single departure can trigger a time out and a extension of the probation period. Not teasing you or putting you down, just telling you what probably happened. The only thing I assume is you are telling the truth.

Don’t fancy talk your way out, it wasn’t accurate, and you didn’t tell me anything new. You assumed I start games I don’t intend to finish, and you said my team has to deal with my disappearance which is really not an issue in the context of my quits.
I gave reasons because you assumed the one wrong reason.

If you didn’t have the information I was asking for, why did you reply in the first place?

You stated in your own post you quit and where quit ban… I didn’t insult you saying you quit too much, only you quit enough times to trigger a quit ban (a 15 min time out)

As far as your reasons… Yes they are irrelevant. Bans can’t be tailored for individuals. They are made with only frequency of departure and quit probation in mind. Do you get what I’m saying? Not calling you a quit fiend or anything, just telling you how it works. No one cares about the reasons, just the numbers.

As far as why I answered? You seem frustrated, I answered whatever in your post was answerable/addressable. If you wish to have post go unanswered/ unaddressed… I don’t think this is the appropriate place.
