Why Did I Get Banned - The Official Thread

> I have gotten banned from earning credits. I had my wife playing match making with me as a guest (Halo Reach - Swat). While I scored well - she did really poorly, which is understandable given she never cared to play before. We played 3 games before she gave up. By the 3rd game I got the ban message. In my opinion the algorithm used to determine banning in this situation is flawed/buggy; 1) it was a guest account so credit gaming/cheating is not an issue, 2) after 2 games of poor play, you should not get banned - it is a discouragement to play the game (not sure why, if this was the cause, this would result in a credit ban anyway) 3) the system provides no indication of what the actual infraction was that caused the banning. Would it really have been that difficult to have coded some slightly more dynamic/data-driven error messages? As it is, I can only assume the cause of the banning is due to the poorly played games by the guest account. If I dont know what I did - How will I know what not to do going forward?
> 4) in this same vein, could you not give a warning meesage after the 1st game or so to indicate the issue and the pending punitive action approaching. Not sure what we could have/would have done but at least we would have had options prior to being penalized.
>
> I will wait out the ban - but it’s very annoying expecially without any real information regarding the cause - but its just a game - and there are lots of them out there…

I agree with you completely in this matter, and I believe and early warning system is needed as well. People should not be punished because of their skill level by recieving a ban. They should be ranked according to their skill level but never punished.

> If people have guests logged on and they do poorly, the main account holder should not be punished hence that is the reason the player invited them to try the game out because they are infact guests. It is very counter productive to punish someone for advertising your game, because that just leaves a very bad first impression on players who are thinking about playing your game and investing money towards that end.

Yeah… That’s called boosting mate. Sorry. But what you are saying is we should allow people to cheat with extra controllers. No. Sorry.

Poor performance is not being punished… No performance (0 kills) however result in NO REWARDS

Very well then how about having the main account holder’s guest privilages temporarily banned and not the main account holder’s account banned? Does that seem more fair?

Even if that was possible… You are suggesting we stop them from playing… Credit ban allows them to continually play, have fun with friends but without rewarding poor performance with Credits (credits are for rank promotion and decorative armor… And in no way change gamplay)

So you believe it is fair for a person to be banned from recieving experience for days just because they let someone play with them once who never played the game before and did horrible? I don’t believe it is fair to the account holder to be punished for days because of a single game with a guest who didn’t know how to play the game properly.

Yes, indeed. Very fair. If they are causing their team to lose because they scored ZERO kills repeatedly, yes. That is not behavior that should be rewarded. Credits are not needed to play. They do not increase you characters combat abilities. Credits are rewards for putting in a minimum amount of participation.

Do you think its more fair to ban them from playing with their friends?

Yesterday I received a text message from an Xbox Live player swearing at me and telling me they’re going to ban me after a Grifball match (of all things), now today when I try to play it says the Halo: Reach servers are unavailable. If players are hacking into this the way they do with Call of Duty, I’ll be requesting my money back for this game. I need someone from 343 to respond to this immediately.

 1. stop giving your phone number out and no one will text you.

 2. servers have nothing to do with hacking, they were just down.

No clue why I’m banned, seems to happen when I let my gf and brother play matchmaking w/ me… They’re not amazing, but it’s not like they’re betraying anyone. Why the f did I get banned? Happened 2 or 3 times now.

Last post is RE: Halo Reach btw. thanks

How have you been banned.banned from playing? Banned from earning credits? Banned from being able to speak? Sorry but can’t give specific information without details. Next time please look through post to see if a similar situation has been addressed. Best bet its one of these three bans you are referring to so I’ll touch on all of them.

Quit Ban: Triggered by multiple DNF games or Did Not Finish. Anything from Internet disconnecting, dashboarding, hitting quit, and being booted. None of these alone trigger the ban but multiple offenses will result in a 15 min ban, followed by a probation period. If a DNF is detected during probation period, longer bans can be dealt.

Credit Ban: aka AFK ban. This ban is triggered by players who play as if they are away from their controllers. Please do not start games online if you don’t intend to play them. 0 kills = 0 credits. Such behavior is not to be rewarded with credits.

Mute Ban: triggered when many other players manually mute you. If enough people have manually clicked the mute button, xbl decides to have you automatically muted. If people want to hear your voice, players must manually unmute you. This usually happens to people who use kinect mics too close to TV speakers that blast noise to other players headsets. Also common practice in competitive playlist to be blindly muted by the other team.

I just got banned from earning credits with my Son and his cousin playing with me one was scoring 0 or -1 or 2 from suicides but i was earning 15 a game and the other player was getting 4 or 5 a game. This is pretty annoying as i was trying to get to the next rank today since i actually had time to play.

Yup, that ban tends to hit kids who can’t play very well. You are going to have to decide what you car about… Rank or just playing around. I suggest you stop caring about your rank. It doesn’t change gameplay nor does it impress others, rather ounce you attain max rank you are more likely to be disappointed. But if you are hoping to climb in credits, I suggest letting your son and his cousin first learn the basics. Don’t let them play matchmaking till they can compleat the campaign, solo on Normal Dificulty. That should give them enough familiarity that they could earn at least 1 kill per game and not trigger or worsen your credit ban.

Please remember, the worse a player performs, the harder he makes it for his team. Even if these where the team scores

1+16+16+16 = 49 = team losses

Even though the player was obviously the reason why they lost, no ban was dealt. There is a minimum amount expected from every player. No one is expecting them to be winners, but they must participate.

I was banned yesterday for no reason. im a young father who enjoys halo4 more than any game there is. im quite good and that’s the only reason I can think for getting banned some one said they were reporting me but I have no idea how to even cheat and I have nothing else right now but my halo… sucks because I swear on everything there is I don’t even know how to cheat I never quit out I try hard every game and I encourage people online even if they lose and that my friend is rare. please review this this ban is not warranted I never once did anything please someone look into it…

You haven’t played Halo Reach for months… So no, you were not banned yesterday unless you are talking about Halo 4.

Either way, you have not explained what type of ban you believe you have… So can’t help ya.

Just in case you are one of the top three bans… Here you go

Quit Ban: Triggered by multiple DNF games or Did Not Finish. Anything from Internet disconnecting, dashboarding, hitting quit, and being booted. You didn’t quit that many games, so that can’t be the problem. Maybe you were mute banned? That is when you can’t use a mic for a little while. Or perhaps you were XP banned. Which would only mean that you got that maximum number of XP that you can earn in one day. TimZaRob is right though, you need to provide what type of ban you received in order for help to be given. Can you still play the game or are you not even allowed into War Games?

Regarding a credit ban:
I don’t necessarily require a reversal of a credit ban but I do have a few questions on this.

1.) First of all, can I find out what I supposedly did wrong to acquire the ban? I’ve only played on Reach online for about 2-3 days now and my wife and the friends I’ve made playing on here can vouch that I have not done anything wrong. To be honest, I am dictating what I say to my wife as she types this because I am so technologically backwards it is somewhat sad. I can’t even begin to understand how to mod or even do simple glitches. I would like to at least know what happened so that way I can try to not repeat it if at all costs.

2.) How long is ‘temporarily’ precisely? I would like to rank up a bit and to do so I need the credits. I am more than willing to wait out the ban if it is indeed short term, but I would like to know precisely how long temporarily really is.

If you can reverse the ban, I would be forever grateful but I am not asking you to do so. Thanks in advance.

According to your recent history you played multiple games like this one, scoring 0 kills

I see you want to rank up, but this type of behavior will not be rewarded with credits. To earn credits, there is a minimum amount of participation required, 1 kill.

Your credit ban should have started at a 24 hour level, repeat offenses extend that ban to 42 hrs, then a week and 2 weeks. If you are finding it difficult to earn 1 kill, please consider practicing in campaign till you can compleat it under normal Dificulty, you have already partially completed it. You’ll be fine.

Hello everyone, i need help on how to change my nameplate on reach… I would like to know how please.
