Why Did I Get Banned - The Official Thread

I totally agree with everything people have said in this thread. I have had many problems with Halo and being banned due to things that are out of my control or simply because my kids want to play but decide they rather explore the maps than kill enemies. I honestly dont understand the credit boosting thing either. It makes no sense to me that if u buy a 70 dollar game or in some cases 150 depending how much legendary costs, why they would set rules in place to prevent you from boosting credits if there is a daily credit cap anyway. The credit cap to my knowledge is 200,000cr per day why would they set such strict ruling on how u decide to get those credits especially since u are able to make custom challenges for urself and your friends. There are so many issues that need to be addressed with the Halo games that I really feel i might not purchase the next one coming out. I really wish I was on some board that would allow me to express these ideas on programming a game. I am starting to wonder if the makers of some games actually spend any time playing any to give them a better understanding of the frustration involved in playing a game that supposed to be enjoyable.

Please do something to change the system in place it is flawed beyond understanding…

So my Xbox was banned the other day. I will agree it was because my son played while waiting on me and yes it was a while. We have never been banned before and in the past YEARS as far back as Halo 2 there was never a punishment for it. If i would have known before hand then it would have been avoided. We don’t cheat or mod there are games I play where I am kicking butt and a few games later I stink. Terribly. And you can see that by looking @ my or our complete Halo history. I just want to know when it will be lifted.

Also wanted to add that it’s simply not fair. My youngest is horrible and she likes to play with us. She doesn’t like FireFight. She just wants to be included. This is suppose to be fun and yes the credits do matter.

Hello, I’m a fairly new Xbox Live member.

Today I played Reach with my 5yo nephew. He’s not so good, but he moves around, rather frenetically, and gets the occasional kill, usually a beat down or dumb luck. Importantly I see him improving, which should be good enough. I can’t complain… I am not much better!

Anyway, I was console and credit banned from Reach, and frankly I can’t figure out why or for how long. (from reading this thread, I suspect its 24 hours and that it’s possibly for “AFK” even though we were not, we just totally suck.)

So, this brings to mind some issues.

First off, if an account is ever banned, for any reason, the account email should get an explanation. They should be told why they were banned and for how long. A simple automated email with the reasoning, and any case number/reference data would be fine.

The fact that this is not how things are done is inexcusably stupid. Bungie, 343, and Microsoft should be ashamed. No one should ever have to spend time on the Internet looking this up and figuring out what went wrong.

Second: This entire system appears to be primarily automated. Well, automated systems are notorious for bad decision making. As a result, before any FIRST ban a message should be sent explaining the suspected problem and any consequences. There should be specific action recommendations. For example … if the system told me we were not getting enough kills, or whatever, and suggested less competitive games, then there might have been no problem at all.

As it stands, I don’t know why I am banned, and I don’t know how to avoid it in the future. That’s spectacularly useless.

Third: There should be a contact point. I’m sorry, but a forum doesn’t cut it.

I have some complaints, and frankly I should be able to get in contact with someone who can help. In a large and growing system like HALO Multiplayer, you will always have new players who don’t know the rules, and they need things explained. There will be exceptions that need to be made.

I appreciate the help fellow gamers can offer, but my kind fellow gamers can’t really help me much except with some educated guessing. What I really need is a few minutes of a staff members time.

I was sent here by an xbox live support representative. My xbox has been banned from earning credits on Halo Reach. I was playing the firefight doubles mode with my brother’s account signed in idle. I was trying to help him earn the perfect rounds of firefight commendation. After about 4 firefights our console was banned from earning points. I could see why there might be a problem with a player signing in and going idle in regular firefight…I’m sure there are plenty of players who would not like to carry an idle player through the round to have them get the commendations without actually playing, however, we were signed into a doubles match(on the same console). The only account which would be affected by his “idleness” would be mine and his ban has also caused me to be unable to earn credits as well. I can still play to earn the commendations(which is strange), yet I’m unable to earn the credits I need to reach my next rank…I do not play often so I’d like the matter to be dealt with as soon as possible. How should I go about resolving the matter?

AFK (or idling) is not allowed at all in online matchmaking.

Usually credit bans aren’t permanent. Did the ban specific how long it would last?

EDIT: There’s also an official thread for resolving issues with bans

I would not know how to go about finding the specifics of the ban. I will follow the link within your reply. Thanks.

The thread you linked to is this thread.

How should I go about resolving the matter? … After posting this on a “New Topic” I was directed here by another member(Toa Freak) who informed me that just going idle in matchmaking was grounds for a ban. I guess the ban is placed upon the xbox in question and all other accounts are guilty by association? I hope the matter is dealt with as soon as possible(I would hope that the ban would be lifted for my brother’s account as well as he was unaware that a ban could be placed upon his account for just being idle). Thanks to all who help :).

This account has been locked by the temporarily accumulate credits. Whats that? I have this problem since 1 week, I haven’t done anything :frowning: What can I do now?

Thanks for help :l

Been banned after a heavy grifball session, no cheating or boosting involved but some accidental betrays as you get on grifball. Our guest played poorly, but not maliciously and still acheived some kills. It’s now been a week. How do I find out why I am banned and how long the ban will last?

for some stupid reason i got credit banned for no reason at all so heres what happened, i got on reach at 12:30am, i started to play firefight matchmaking, and at 1:30am i saw a message pop up and it said “this xbox360 console has been credit banned temporarily” but i never went over the credit limit for the day. so if 343industries see this or any assistant see this please remove the credit banning cause this is just insane. hell, i might not by halo ever again and 343 will lose money.

Okay so the over day I was Living Dead and at the end of the game I earned 0 Credits. I wondered why this was and reset my xbox to see if this problem would resolve. I started up Reach and it said: This Xbox 360 Console has been Temporally banned for earning credits. It stayed like this for a day or so. I started it up yesterday and the same message appeared, followed by This Account has been temporally banned from earning credits. If anyone knows how to solve this issue, pleases tell me .

If any Gamertag or Guest on the Xbox gets 0 kills for a few games the console will get a cR ban and you hav a few games where you get 0 kills.

This is my post of 15 days ago *4240.
I am 71 years old and have attained the rank of inheritor, have full armour and over 11million credits so have no reason to cheat. I am a really crap player with an atrocious K/D ratio but my rank has been built up by the many hours playing swat. I have been banned from getting credits when I played with my wife as a guest so my wife got her own account but the console and my account have been banned so she cannot progress. A previous ban was only lifted a few days ago. So can somebody explain why there is this semi-permanent ban on my account and why there is no recourse or complaints procedure so that I can utilize 100% a game that I have bought and paid for. I am NOT a cheat and object to being coloured as one.
Well the ban lasted a week now I’m banned again after playing for a week, and again for no reason, I built up my rank by being over 50days playing time on Halo Swat.
So no customer consideration from Halo because they’ve got our money, not even the common curtesy of answering my last post.
Every post deserves at least a reply.

The entire Xbox is affected if one GT gets the ban, so it’s most likely your wife’s GT who got the ban in the first place resulting in you allso being banned.

Allso this is the game industry so we have no rights, even if we payed for a game we still dont have the rights to do what we want with it. If a developer wants to shut down the online part for a game they can do that and they are doing it(not necessarily 343i)

so i was playing with my friend and she is’nt very good at halo… like her first time playing. we played 10 15 games and now i have a temporary credit ban? why is this? is it because they think that i was playing with an afk guest?

Yes it is because of that.
