Why Did I Get Banned - The Official Thread

You got banned, you know why, don’t try to lie, if you actually admit to us what you did, we would be able to tell you how long it will last.

I was just wondering but isn’t every account that get’s banned being watched closely so they don’t do anything bad again? I heard this from a bungie employee on the bungie.net forums and was just wondering if this was true.

IMO, the quit bans are crap. I am NOT going to play against players from other countries unless I have one in my party as well. That negates some of the -Yoink!- lag and connectivity issues. I’ve deserved a few quit bans I guess because frankly, I don’t want to play against a team that has Canada, Mexico, Spain, and Singapore on the opposing side while I have all American on my side. Guess who gets shafted every single time. The Americans get screwed.

There need to be a few filters in place such as country and connectivity to start off with and if your system can’t tell the difference between a quit and a lag out, you’ve got no business banning anyone. I paid for the game, I paid for the service.

If you actually want to try to do something right, why don’t you spend a little of the money you’re making and hire a few folks to investigate the complaints filed? Legitimate complaints need to be followed up by a permanent home ISP ban, not simply the ISP addy to the console. Duh, all these bad kids do is make a new GT and change the ISP addy on the console. Yoink. You will friggin’ quadruple your business by spending that money. You’ll get a reputation as a fair company as opposed to someone who’s taking a step into already horrible shoes. As of this point, the system was down for a couple of hours today and when it came back up, I had the worst connection for three games that I’ve ever had before. It was horrible and you guys should be ashamed of yourselves. How can you ask for money when you deliver bad product? No wonder folks quit out of MM with crap like that. Quit being cheap. To have any less than 10 servers and 1000 repeaters per state is just plain sorry. If you want to get real, get real. Anything else is simply a petty power trip.

> I was just wondering but isn’t every account that get’s banned being watched closely so they don’t do anything bad again? I heard this from a bungie employee on the bungie.net forums and was just wondering if this was true.

I seriously doubt it. Don’t believe what you read and hear, believe what you see. To say I’m pessimistic about any XBL MM and Reach in particular is vastly under-stating it.

These guys know who does the stuff or they would if they’d put a few more options in the complaint section. They make it vague on purpose. They don’t want to see the film clips because then they might have to do something about it. I’ve attempted to submit several clips to both Bungie and XBOX and they refuse to accept them. Once you buy their game, these guys have your money. Once you pay for your XBL membership, XBL has your money. They don’t care and until things improve DRAMATICALLY, that statement will hold true to me.

> So I am still banned, I have posted on here and other halo forums. I don’t know what we did but its been 3 weeks now and I have no idea whats going on. i was told to pm this guy and that guy and call someone else and email but still havent got even 1 message back from anyone. This really blows.

They have your money, review my previous post.

last night i got credit banned cause my wife and our friend was playing last night. during one of the matches they had to get up and leave cause of our kids. after about an hour it came and said we were temporarily banned. im going to assume that after that match it kept looking into the accounts. im going to say my wife and our friend can not play very well and their k/d varies from 0 to maybe 4 a match. that is the only way i could have been banned and i would like to see if it can be lifted. gt’s as follows: KSI F0RSAKEN 7, KSI IMABITDIZZY, and KSI ASHMAZING2U. i dont want to hear from other players that this ruins the experience for other players as xbox live was made for family. this is supposed to be a family enviornment where people can play and not have to worry if they are good or not. it’s all about having fun. some people cant afford the best internet connection or be the best players. telling people to do firefight instead is bull matchmaking is matchmaking if you want competitive go to mlg or go on the pro circuit. everything else is for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you and i hope this can be fixed if not i at least tried.

I agree with you KSI and it would have been best if everyone simply quit out. You should know that by now.

That being said, look about 4 posts up at this poor player who has been waiting 3 weeks for a reply. It simply backs my statement that they don’t care once they have your money.

oh i know bro i have been paying attention and im seeing how these companies are becoming and they are forgetting the reason xbox live was made in the first place. as far as my wife and friend sucking, im not going to stop matchmaking cause someone can take advantage of them being less skilled. to get better you have to face better alot and keep going at it, thats the way i learned. im thinking you know if people stopped participating in their servers they might take a look then and fix the problems at hand. i have high hopes for 343 and i hope they dont let me down on this. if i get banned heavier i dont really care, this is my family and i dont care how bad they are im going to continue to play lol

This I disagree with to a degree. There need to be filters on the competitive lists for country and connection and there also need to be duplicate lists as there were in H3 MM so you have a choice for competitive or social play.

When I talk about filters for connection, I mean to say that if you’re connection isn’t good enough, you simply can’t play. Why would you even want to? Your game is going to be bad or your connection is going to ruin the other teams game. In the old days of XBL, your connection had to meet certain criteria. If it didn’t, you couldn’t play. Period, end. That’s the way it should be. If it’s not, it’s nothing short of theft for the folks who can afford the good connections. That being said, there also needs to be a limit on the connections. Folks with business level connections shouldn’t be allowed to play either. That gives them a decidedly unfair advantage in MM. Level the playing field and most folks will be happy although some folks with industrial strength connections might get twisted out of whack for a minute lol.

ok ill agree with that about the connection. if we still had the old ranking system that would be better

I believe the going rate for that is 48 hrs or 2 weeks depending on your Ban history.

I received a ban over the weekend (first one ever), and know exactly why. I played with a friend (signed in as a guest) that never played before. He was horrible, and got zero kills. Here are the games:

Game 1

Game 2

Game 3

Game 4

I appologize if this caused any issues with anyone elses experience, but it was not malicious in intent. We just wanted to play, and introduce him to Halo.

Now this is a man who should be commended. Admitting to faults and apologizing to the community…who’s done THAT???

rising applause

Thatta boy! I believe a first time offence will be a two week cR ban for AFKing, persona experience.

You seem to be more knowledgeable than most on the AFK deals. How many games does it usually take, if there’s a minimum, etc?

Does it account for an entire game or say if it was like 5 minutes every few games. I’ve maybe AFK’d for a minute or so in a couple FF or MM games but it happens when you live alone and the door rings. Just curious if there’s a way to find out at all.

Otherwise I doubt I have any reason to be banned.

When I got banned for AFKing, I was very sleepy, decided to try and get the complete ‘XX’ games in Matchmaking, I ended up waking up the next day (I am not trying to make up lies, I fell asleep while purposely AFKing) logging into Reach before the challenges had changed, I saw I had 7 games complete out of 20 something.

However, I have known a few people going on for numerous days or a few hours before being banned, I suppose it’s all random of if the ban hammer turns it’s eye to you.

Ha! Thanks. I have no problem admitting it. I’ve been here long enough to know exactly what happened. It was buddy who was signed in as a guest. I didn’t realize he was getting NO kills. We signed him out after four games. We got a ban 2 games later. Amazing how quick the hammer worked. We didn’t do it on purpose. Besides, there’s nothing to gain by having a guest AFK in MM. I just feel bad for the other guys on my team.

@ Moa - LOL wow! Nah I hear ya bro. I’ve been on the losing side of the “Heroin-nod” doze a few times but rarely on a matchmaking game. I’m usually the mouthpiece of the group I’m in anyway but we’re all a fun-loving bunch of quippers. But at least I have a frame of reference now.

@ Coux - Well, technically the player with the extras, provided those extras are AFK, the player has the higher percentage for kills which is a boosting technique frowned upon. I recently told my buddy to stop playing with his 2 sons on MM b/c when they get killed more than twice, they just stand there and whine leaving their characters running around like idiots getting 0 kills. I know this is eventually going to affect his main account so I gave him the heads up to stick to Custom games.

Never thought of it that way. I guess statistically speaking, it is possible to get more kills with an AFK player, but I’m hardly that good to pull that off! I can’t believe people actually boost that way. Pretty crazy. But then again, I’ve seen some pretty clever boosting/AFK-ing in FF that has yet to be addressed. I’ve run across a ton of players that will get just a couple of kills, and then go hide. They don’t ever seem to get caught.
