Why Did I Get Banned - The Official Thread

so I play online and suddenly i get logged out then back in just like that. I know what that is and that’s my internet connection but I think it’s affecting my account cause now I’m banned for a short time for quitting? what is that and is that the reason for it? and how can i prevent it from happening, if it is that, again if i cant fix my connection?

If you’re dropping in and out of games then this can be perceived as excessive quitting. Having a laggy connection in general won’t get you banned though. Try opening your NAT. (Examine your router’s manufacturer’s directions for how to do that.)

> Chances are you have more than 2 Gamer Tags on that console. Ask him if he logs on if it says “this account has been temp banned from earning credits” AND “this console has been banned…”. If it is both I don’t know why he got banned, if it’s just the console, then another account on the console got banned and he is feeling the effects of it.

It’s just him. Even if he plays at a friend’s house he has the credit ban. Any other thoughts? I’ve got an upset kid on my hands. Thanks in advance!

> My son’s account is still banned from earning credits. I would like to know why and how long this will last. His gamertag is EDOG421

He’s always playing with another gamertag Scava 1221. Many of the games look like partial AFK games. Especially the Firefight games.

Example game

The fact that an Arcadefight game has only two people is odd. The fact that his kill per minute ratio is 1 kill/minute which is mind-boggling with only two people. If he’s AFK in FF, then he’ll receive a temp credit ban of 24 hours to 2 weeks depending on how often he’s been caught before. Eventually he’ll qualify for a full credit reset. And potentially a permanent ban on credit earning if he continues.

Thanks for the info! We live in a rural area and don’t have the most stable internet connections. He’s been playing a lot lately (I only got him an Xbox live account a couple weeks ago so he’s been addicted to online play.) So if you are playing along and the connection drops off it is recorded as AFK? Makes sense, but it is not really anything he can control. As you can see he’s been playing the hell out of this game and loves it. Hate to see him this upset over something he can’t control.

Is there really a chance of a permanent ban if he has a few more drop offs? This seems like a really bad way to treat your customers.

HELLLO

I was playing halo reach and won the jackpot 4 times in a row and got banned. It says the consol and the account were banned temporarily. I wanna know how long I have to wait because I shouldn’t be banned

GT: x die Polizei x. I played last night with my 8 year old nephew (who is obviously horrible), had multiple games with 1 and 0 kills, and now I’m credit banned. I get the message “This Console (and Account) have been temporarily banned from earning credits” I think this is a little crazy. I’m a devoted, non-cheating halo player, who has spent money on every single game and get banned for playing with my nephew? This is crap. Banhammers need to loosen up a bit when it comes to this kind of stuff. Have your digital records or whatever do a little more research before banning someone. Because of this, I will never let my 8 year old nephew play again, because his skill level conflicts with the banhammers rule book. Give me a break guys…

> I have been banned for the first time how long is it for?

First time cR bans are usually 24-48 hours.

Like I said in your topic, first time cR bans tend to last 24-48 hours.

There is no way to differentiate an AFK player from a bad player, not with the ban hammer tech Reach uses, the only way they can track it is by zero kill games.

There is no way for them to look at shots fired or anything? It’s hard to believe that if they can monitor every single gamertag out there and how many kills they get, that they cant monitor somone who has been shooting the whole game and has 0 kills, and someone who has shot 250 times with 0 kills. I just don’t think that they should be so quick to hop on ban train when it comes to zero kills. These are people who get payed a hell of a lot of money, and if they played the games themselves, would understand guests usually suck…thats why they are guests. I suppose saying something on these forums does absolutely no good being that moderators don’t look at these, but rather a place for people to vent about their ridiculous ban issues. How convenient.

As I said, it doesn’t track what you are suggesting, it tracks zero kill games nothing more, it doesn’t track gun accuracy per game or anything like that.

You were never promised your ban to be lifted, you were simply promised to be told by somebody, not an official, but somebody, about why you were banned, I did, that is the only point in this topic, not to rant and rave about how broken you think the system is.

To be perfectly honest, I prefer that is bans bad players and the AFK players that let the AFK players run rampant and get away with it.

I’m not sure what you are saying?

Didn’t quite understand this.

or this. What do you prefer?

You were promised to be told why you were banned, which is what I did, then I told you my thoughts on the whole situation, which is what not was promised but was optionally given.

I have been playing fire fight on matchmaking and I received a temporary ban!! I do not know why since I have been playing nothing but this for the week and if I do “quit” it is b/c of my internet lagging me out! Anybody know what has happened or why I have received the ban??

You need to be a bit more precise, was it a temporary MATCHMAKING ban or a temporary CREDIT ban?

When you lag out of games, it counts as a quit, so that would explain the quit ban.

This game on Overlook shows that you did indeed stay to the end (no DNF) and lacked any kills or deaths, triggering AFKing activity for the ban hammer.

That would explain a credit ban.

I keep getting dropped from matches. While i’m playing it starts to lag and then it tells me everyone quits and i’m the only one in but now i’m getting banned because its saying i’m quitting… How do i prevent this? I have my xbox wired to my router, it’s not wireless. Whats going on and why am i getting banned from match making?

When that happens, it is actually you lagging out from everyone else, but for Firefight, it separates you into different games for some reason.

I’d contact your ISP, tell them you are lagging out of games online and see if they can help you out.

Can you go to www.speedtest.net though and post your results here, just so I know your average internet speed.

So, my console/ account were supposedly banned for sitting idle for too many games woot getting any kills. What the real problem was is that my controller’s battery back kept losing connection and every time I would get it to work throughout about 3 or 4 games, it would almost immediately disconnect even though the controller was fully charged. When I finally got it to work, I got 3 kills, then the game ended. From what I hear, the “first offense” is a 24 hour credit ban. My account/ console has been banned since Friday morning at about 3:30am or 4am, and it won’t take the ban away. Why is this? I am extremely irritated and would like for this nonsense to end. Please help.

If your ban hasn’t ended after 24-48 hours from the start, expect a 1-2 week wait.

Why would it be that long though on this supposed first offense? I’ve never had anything like this happen to me.
