> Granted it’s not the case but this is clearly happening to a ton of innocent gamers. I can’t confidently consider changing my GT without confirmation that this kind of idiocy on Microsofts part doesn’t happen again…which it will.
Actually, its contractual and you signed it by signing up. So technically, they can do whatever they want. Case Closed…Your using thier service. And has no one brought up the valid point that the name Zoidberg, im guessing from that Simpsons spin off show, might very well be copyrighted, and for that reason, its on the censor list. Seriously though, you signed the contract, they can, AND WILL, do anything they want. Its a business bro. MS isnt out to make you happy, they are out to make money, your money. Just change the name or dont post on fileshare…its pretty simple. I dont think 343 can really help you here
> And has no one brought up the valid point that the name Zoidberg, im guessing from that Simpsons spin off show, might very well be copyrighted, and for that reason, its on the censor list.
that doesn’t hold water though when terms like “yellow” aren’t allowed in the names of things being uploaded.
I totally understand that BUT it’s like I said, they should’ve handled this when I PICKED the name well over a year ago.
Would’ve made perfect sense and I wouldn’t be out another 800 MSP and they know this. I know there’s no way to fight it but it’s a serious lack of support on their part IMO. They never specified what properties would be copyrighted and so on which would be fair.

> Okay, another good example I just read off the Xbox Support Forums. Apparently the name Dave isn’t allowed either as being “Offensive”. Someone posted that you shouldn’t use personal info blah blah blah - BULL again! B/c there are thousands if not more of every name on Live!!! He even said, Dave comes up offensive but other names do not.

> It’s completely a slap to the fans face when there is NO explanation. One person, sure, have your way but you have a vast majority of the community being stricken with this kind of dilemma.
I think that Microsoft emails when there is a ban…except modded console ban…but i’m not sure…
Yeah well I got NO email or anything about this until recently.
Another thing I tried was putting Zoidberg in the Name/Nickname area and it works fine. Just Motto considers it an offense…which still makes NO sense for the Gamertag.
Whatever, I have a buddy hooking me up with MS points and judging from the whole Motto/Name/GT issue, I’ve found a way around it and it’s working for Motto and Name so it better work for my GT as well.
Here’s hoping. Though, knowing my luck, they’ll find a way to put another loyal fan down somehow.
> > > Well, it’s not necessarily a straight “Ban” but somebody in the higher-ups area REAALLY needs to settle the File Share Ban deal. There are many threads/forums between here and B.net and someone earlier posted that there is always a Reason for being banned. I’m not saying I don’t have one…but I’d like to KNOW that reason myself.

I’ve had it for a while now and have had no problems. A couple weeks ago, there was a challenge for Uploading Something to Your File Share. That was the last time I did it and I just did what I always did - picked something from my Local Files, Upload to File Share, Done.
> > >

I had not even played for a day or two but when I went to upload, I read “The Name of the Creator of this File is Not Allowed On XBOX Live” which is disgustingly misleading as is. I’m obviously STILL allowed on XBL and I can’t see the harm in the name I’ve had for well over a year - Zoidberg Psycko. If it’s the Psycko that’s all of a sudden a problem, then why are 3 of my buddies who have Psycko as part of their GT NOT having the same issue?

I am replying to this after I read angels post, there is nothing much she can do unless she is friends with the guy who is meant to control the Live Censor, it’s not just Halo, it’s every game with a File Sharing system, just saying, don’t expect light to shed on it any time soon.
i was a forerunner, where does it say afkn in firefight was banable before that major reset day. how you gonna come up with new rules andban people for what they did.
I got banned once for afking and i deserved it but then a few days ago I was playing and got another ban console and profile I dont know why and would like to know. maybe a new update should be done that in the ban message it states exactly why we got banned if this system is so sophisticated then it should be smart enough to tell us why. it says temporary but then it should state a date that it will be lifted these ideas will minimize the posts here making less work for bungie
I was in a match of capture the flag with my gf and the other two players quit. When her or I respawned we were killed in seconds without a chance to move it was on the small map with the circular structure in the center and we had no chance to do anything. She is a newbie but decided to play because I enjoy it, and not dissing her but she may as well be playing blindfolded. I told the guy to just grab the flag and finish the game because they were holding it close to their base and just massacred us instead of capturing the flag which was the objective. The banhammer should not be based off of 0 kills because when people start playing at first they can’t play until they practice. If they get banned right away because they are still learning then they are going to give up on the game. This can only result in less fans. I like and enjoy the Halo games but this ban hammer is steering me and many of my friends from continuing our adventures with Master Chief and the Arbitor.
It would be greatly appreciated if you reinstated the privileges for Dead Majini and Dare Devil Rox.
> i was a forerunner, where does it say afkn in firefight was banable before that major reset day. how you gonna come up with new rules andban people for what they did.
If you go back to page 14 of this thread there was someone arguing the same point. I brought up threads on Bungie.net saying this was bannable Jan 13, 2011, so in essences the making a rule and backdating argument is invalid. My posts has both links, you will have to copy and paste as I did not bother making them where you can click, but both are still active on Bungie’s site who did the sweeping reset you got caught up in May.

I am not flaming you or trying to troll, but in truth you and your GF game history has a lot of AFK games. I also had a post about this on page 16 or 17 of this thread, the banhammer is not based on kills, there is more to it than that. People try to use kills as the all defining factor, but it is not. I will not repeat everything, but go back to my post on that page talking about playing with my daughter who has a 0.40 K/D ratio, never been banned and numerous games, even in a row with no kills.
My post also talks about how easy it is to tell the difference between AFK and not using the tools on Bungie.net.
Maybe 343 needs to just outright ban Guest accounts, if you join a game and just mess around for fun with friends you’ll get a ban (has happened to people). If I let my girlfriends son who is 8 and not that great play on a guest, we risk a ban as he is more than likely going to get 0 kills numerous matches in a row, same for if my GF plays and isn’t too crash hot at FPS.
I never liked guest accounts honestly, as they seem to have a boosted Aim assist and for the fact they are exploitable, but in the same respect guests are allowed, and quite frankly I would be too scared to use one now, didn’t mind using them occasionally when friends come over for drinks and xboxing, but now I have to say, sorry, you suck at playing and I’ll be the one punished for it.
People can argue that the system works, but it has been proven to auto ban innocent, but unskilled players, or those who just play games to mess around and have fun.
The ban rules are not listed in the manual, 95% of gamers don’t visit forums or read news updates or visit developer sites, and only bother when they are banned and want to find out why.
So hopefully 343 will put all these details along with addresses to official sites in the Anniversary Edition, and maybe add a big warning screen explaining all of this that players agree to when entering Match Making.
Because yeah, you guys are really killing casual gamers fun who are clueless to the strict rules or is that the plan, to make the HALO franchise accessible to only the rabid fanboys who live on forums?

You have been told it’s being looked in to, stop making a big deal out of it, if you want to discuss, keep it in another topic, this is the ‘Why I get Banned’ topic, you know you haven’t been banned.
A long time ago I got banned from Halo 3 matchmaking because I changed the name of a modded screenshot(which I did not mod) and put it on my Halo 3 file share.
I know that this seems like a stupid thing to do but at the time I had no idea that I was breaking any rules(as everything that I done was done ingame without modding).
After many messages to Bungie and no replies I gave up and stopped playing Halo 3. Hopefully now that 343 have taken over the franchise I hope that I can get some answers on why I was banned?
Gamertag: Oo INSTINCT oO
P.S
If Bungie had notified me that I was commiting an offence I would have removed the modded screenshot from my fileshare.

Sorry, if I may attempt to help out, are you asking about a Halo 3 File Share ban?
> No I got permanently banned from matchmaking because I changed the name of a modded screenshot on my fileshare.
Doesn’t sound right, I am going to go and stroll through your game history, see if I find anything odd, you would only get a File Share ban last time I checked.
Never cheated at the game. Look on their website one of the banning offences is:
•Modifying your Xbox 360 hardware or Bungie software and services in any way.
This is why I got banned but I did not actually mod anything. I heard if you changed the name of the modded screenshot the banhammer thought that you modded the file?
