Why Did I Get Banned - The Official Thread

Etrexium,

Going off the information from the bungie.net forums, bans generally are 24 hours, 48 hours, and 2 weeks. Based on you saying you got the message for four days now, unfortuantly it may be 2 weeks. I only reference the Bungie.net forums as Bungie created the banhammer and transfered the programming to 343, not sure if they changed anything in it’s formual or implementation at this point.

i have been banned now for 6 days. i honestly dont know what i did wrong. how can i get un banned or when will i be unbanned?

I have not been banned but I have a friend who is new to halo and wants to play with me as a guest. Will I get banned if he is unable to get any kills while on the guest account?

> I have not been banned but I have a friend who is new to halo and wants to play with me as a guest. Will I get banned if he is unable to get any kills while on the guest account?

Not usually. If this happens ALL the time, then you might eventually get banned. But I think you need to have ALOT of matches like that to qualify. Plus that’s a false-positive. You can probably talk to 343i if you did get banned and get unbanned under that circumstance. But if you have anything fishy while your potentially sucky friend is not grabbing kills, then you might just want to take the ban.

AFKing is the cause of your ban.

AFK on Corvette
AFK on Waterfront
AFK on Courtyard

Just a few examples.

Help!

I was playing Halo: Reach recently and I completed my game. After the game, I played another one without incident. This continued all night. What is the problem? I didn’t AFK. I didn’t boost. I didn’t use AFK Guests. I didn’t challenge reset. I didn’t cheat in any way! Why isn’t the system punishing me?!? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Sincerely,
-Random Satirical Guy On Internet

While I am feeding you with this reply, I just wanted you to know that; Sorry we don’t allow trolls here at 343.

Satire =/= ‘trolling.’ You must be new to the internet my good man.

To minimize repeat questions and unnecessary arguments, it would be helpful if the administrator updated the first post to include the full banhammer details as well as ban lengths for various infractions, etc.

I was going to say ‘AFK on Unearthed’ but looking more in-depth into this game: http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/gamestats.aspx?gameid=709545187&player=burritosenior it seems to host lagged out and your version of the game never got published which resulted in the system thinking you were AFKing.

I would personally PM ‘Total Sellout’ and appeal it, this post turned into a troll fest a few days ago.

Ah my friend… you missed the point of the post. But thank you for the effort. It’s the thought that counts.

I cannot load screenshots, videos etc… on my fileshare anymore because the name of the creator ascari f1 is not permitted on xbox live,i think its my gamertag because my friends in live download my images but when they want to load them to there fileshare says that the name of the creator is not permitted on xbox live. But i dont remember having problems with my gamertag.

man I felt really bad after I challenge reset a few months ago so sorry 343i and all u halo fans out there. I am not one to cheat (as in hack glitch/cheat the system) but some part of me wanted to try it

Who can I contact about a potential false-positive Halo Reach account and console ban? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I honestly believe my situation deserves research. I’m sure ‘they all say that’ but I pride myself on being an honest person. My usual gaming buddy, my 7 yr old son Elijah, gamertag Elijah2704 and I two days ago were gaming. I let my 8 yr old neighbor who I am babysitting for a while play as a guest of mine. He did not idle but honestly tried playing (for the 1st time, seriously) but unfortunately he yielded 0 kills for like 3 games. Consequently it was the day of our big hurricane here in CT & we lost power 3 times before it went out for over 30 hours. All of a sudden we get a pop up & I freaked because I’ve been banned twice for idling (unintentionally & before I knew bans existed) while getting the kids ready before work. I learned NOT to join a game if I cannot finish the match or have to go to the bathroom. Otherwise the ban hammer drops like MJOLNIR. Anyway I am really distraught over this. My 7 yr old boy & I are avid Reach players who have bonded more playing Halo than any other activity. Please consider that I
was playing with a first timer who was AWFUL yes, but by no means cheating. Any consideration is greatly appreciated.

I call shenanigans, you don’t get a Reach Console Ban for AFKing/Idling. You get it for illegally modifying your Xbox 360 to play Reach with modified settings.

I don’t have anything modded The Little Moa. It’s just a temporary credit earning ban on my consoe and account. I’d admit any culpability if I were aware of it & wouldn’t embarrass myself posting in a public forum if I didn’t feel it was erroneous.

Just the way you said it sounded like you got a permanent console ban from Reach for idling.

My mistake.

Last night when I (PLW83) went to play some Reach my Console was banned from earning credits. After reading many forums I think the reason is I was playing with 2 of my Brothers-in-law (DBOed, hamsterBISCUITS) and a guy from down the street. My brother-in-law signed his friend up as a guest under his account - hamsterBISCUITS**. This** guy does not own a xbox or play Reach. If a real person would watch the videos they would see that he was not idle but trying (and failing) to kill people the whole time. We had him on our team in team games, which hurt our team and we have no idea who all we played so we would not be trying to help them. Would someone please look at this let me know if there is any way to remove this ban.
Thank you

You never explained this to me, why you and your guest both got no kills in the game :open_mouth:
