Why Did I Get Banned - The Official Thread

I got a temporary console and account ban today. Maybe someone can tell me how long it will last? My GT is “Rhys Mog”.

I was playing firefight doubles with a second account signed in so that I could play firefight arcade with infinite lives on whatever map I wanted. I understand if that’s a bannable offense, but it wasn’t really ruining anyone else’s online experience.

Anyway, when I got bored of firefight I joined a game of swat, forgetting that I had a second account signed in (I was watching TV at the time so I wasn’t concentrating). Half way through my first game, the ban message flashed up telling me that my account has been temporarily banned from earning credits.

Was this ban for the firefight thing, the swat thing, or both? And is it going to be more than 24 hours?

You pretty much answered your own question. It was for having an AFK player. If this is your first ban, I believe it’ll be 24-48 hours.

Thanks for the quick reply. I know it was for AFKing, but was it the intentional firefight AFKing that didn’t hurt anyone, or the accidental swat AFK?
Also, I’ve never been banned before, so fingers crossed it’s only 24 hours.

Ultimately it was probably the combination of both unless you played oodles of FF games like that. (I didn’t peek at your history to know how many games you played.)

I just had a look - it was more than I realised. 7 firefight games and one campaign mission =(

I was banned last night and i have no idea why i was banned. Ive called microsoft and they told me to contact 343 and ask them but i have had no luck in doing this, so im just going to let you know that i understand the banhammer for people who deserve it. The only thing i can think of that got me banned was the crappy connection i have that has booted me from games that i was in the middle of playing. My internet provider is having problems with service, which really sucks cause there the only provider i can get out here in the sticks. I just want to know when this ban is going to be over and would like to know why i was band from a game that i paid for and a LIVE account that i pay to have every month? I am VERY upset about this and i feel that if your going to ban someone, you should watch them carefully and make sure that they deserve to be band.

Me and my roommate made new XBOX live gamer tags last night to play halo 3 for the first time in a while. After playing doubles for a while, my roommate went to bed and I played Lone Wolves. After around 7 matches I got a message saying the console was banned from matchmaking…why??? I have never cheated in my life and I didn’t even have a mic plugged in. GT is Taylor Roney, Thanks.

My girlfriend sometimes plays halo with me but I allow it on one condition (because she is not that good, not her fault tho new player) the one condition is that she must get at least one kill a game, if it goes 2 games and no kills I tell her that she has to stop, and sometimes I feel like the back side of a donkey when I tell her that. Thankfully I haven’t been banned yet so that is good

It will end the same second the ban was given to you, so if you were banned at 12:00:01AM, you will be unbanned at 12:00:01AM.

We turned the microphone off, no codes or cheats, and no upgraded console. Is it possible to be banned because of a wi-fi connection. It doesn’t boot us out of the room. It lets us play but we cannot increase our rank in the game. Does anyone know what is going on?

Without going through your game history, generally the cause of a ban like that is AFKing, which means your in a game and you are not playing.

There is a thread up at the top of this section of the forum that will most likely answer any questions you have.

going through your game history your guest accomplished zero kills or 1 kill and a couple times you only got 1 or zero yourself playing swat over several games that counts as afk you can goto bungie.net an look at all your game history

I have been palying online for about 6 years now and have always kept my nose clean been nice to new people and never teabaged anyone especially girls (was first Australian H20 for grandma PMS, this is mandetory for them)
I have been banned, deservedly so ( I think???) because I was in matchmaking firefight and not doing anything just getting the end score, but I wasnt causing any issues with other players (since everyone trys to steal kills in firefight arcade.
Why have i been given no time limit to the extent of the ban?
And for gods sake can somone get these packs of MLG’s to stop coming into team slayer and spawn killing people who just go online to laugh and have fun.My hole team backs out because it makes the game about as much fun makin glove to a windmill factory…all up hill and you always die…

So YOU lagged out and got a 10 minute MM ban and YOU are complaining about it? Right…

Either way, it has been like that since Bungie was in control, 343i haven’t touched anything regarding the quit ban.

If you feel it was Matchmakings fault YOU lagged out, set your search preferences to Good Connection.
