Why Did I Get Banned - The Official Thread

After reading through most of this thread, I have a ton of questions. My son and I got our 360 for Christmas and have been playing the Reach Multiplayer on CEA. The two of us work our -Yoinks!- off to try to increase our ranks the best we can. We Just recently found Halo Waypoint and have figured out how to use the Custom Challenges, but after reading this its my understanding that you can be banned for doing this. As we are not very good to begin with, every credit we earn is fought for tooth and nail. We play alot of Firefight, some Slayer in Matchmaking, and have started to try other games. In our Slayer games there are some instances where either him or me will go the whole game and not get a kill (Sadly it’s me more than him). Its my understanding from this thread that we can get banned for being -Yoink- as well? Look up my gamer history if need be, is there anything there that would make it look like I’m AFKing or anything like that? We play purely for fun and just want to get better, we love Halo and put alot of money and effort into getting where we are. I understand needing to weed out the cheaters but people that are honestly trying? Can anyone please clarify the reasons a player can get banned so we can do what we can to avoid it.

Thanks

If you don’t get enough kills in the game, the game may think you are boosting. I’m always afraid of getting credit banned in matchmaking if I’m having a particularily bad game with no kills. Even if you’re actually in game and messing about, the ban-hammer doesn’t differentiate between people who are messing about and people who are boosting.

By messing up the score for your team(s) you deserved it. Stop whining about your “rights”, you little d-bag. Play like like a man and be a team-player, if you just wanna mess around with friends you should play Custom Games.

Like Jochon said, customs is for messing around.

You played like that in Matchmaking and are questioning why you’re banned…?

> how did i get banned i was doing custom challenges an i got ban and see if you can do something i didn’t do nothing please try to help

Please post here if you think you were banned for doing Custom Challenges: False bans relating to Custom Challenges.

> Hey, i was just wondering how long id be banned for afk boosting with guests boosting for acheivements

It all depends how many previous bans you have had, if its a first offence, 24-48 hours.

> So I’m now starting to dislike playing Halo again, considering I’ve finally found something I like (Heavies) but keep getting booted for accidental betrayals, which leads to temp bans.
>
> So unless this some how gets fixed, I don’t see a reason to play as much anymore.

It won’t be fixed, getting booted counts towards the quit ban to teach you a lesson, to be able to aim a lot better and not betray your team mates, your team mates don’t know if you did it accidentally or on purpose, hence why they kick you.

> I believe i can prove it seeing how i have witness and it was his first time so i recorded it and yes it has a date so whatever im glad bungie wont be making halo 4

You are actually trying to go through with this, good luck for it, your ban won’t be lifted.

Oooh, questions

Custom Challenges are NOT bannable, the recent bannings with them were false and accidental, just a small mistake on 343 Industries side, players banned for doing them have since been unbanned as far as I can see, feel free to use them, but keep this in mind, there is a slight bug with Custom Challenges were if you play with a guest and NOT a second account on the controller, the guest will be the one progressing the Custom Challenges, not the first player.

As for getting zero kills in a game, this is also terms for a ban for AFKing activity, the ban hammer can’t tell the difference between someone simply dying a lot because they aren’t a very good player or if they are not playing at all.
To avoid this, it is advised to stick to Firefight, Custom Games & Campaign until the player can hold his own in Matchmaking and get a few kills per game, it is beneficial for you & your team.

Man that was fun

Oh I can aim just fine, of course if they jump in front of my tank as I’m taking shot at a wraith, well things are going to happen.

I love the attitude of the support group here. The only thing you have to say is “aim better”, really? There are NUMEROUS forums and threads all over the internet that are having the same problem as me, but I guess we all just have to “aim better” huh?

What about the times I’m betrayed and not given the option to boot? It seems every time I betray I’m ALWAYS booted. So maybe the answer isn’t “aim better”, maybe it should be the same answer y’all gave for Living Dead. Which is get rid of betrayals on such a crazy, out of control game.

What else do you expect us to say?

We can’t exactly come into the game and just stay clear of you when you are in a vehicle, if you are betraying people commonly on mistake, it isn’t a pure coincidence, you are clearly doing something wrong, be aware of your team mates positions, not just fire aimlessly which to me, sounds like you are doing.

Betrayals were taken out of Living Dead due to a major bug which a human & infected would both kill each other at the same time, and the game would count one of the kills as a betrayal, resulting in unfair boots.

> By messing up the score for your team(s) you deserved it. Stop whining about your “rights”, you little d-bag.

It was a doubles game. He and his only other teammate were running around not getting kills. It was a group effort. He didn’t ruin anything for his team. Rather than name-calling, how about you work on your reading comprehension? I understand that the OP was using broken English, but it wasn’t that hard to decipher.

Okay, I’m getting no where with this, at least answer me this question.

Why do I not get as many boot options as the people who boot me? There have been blatant betrayals on me (trying to get guns, cars etc.) and yet I never get a boot option except maybe 2 out of every 5 as an example and those are usually accidents so I don’t boot. Why does it seem to skip out on me?

I’m not trying to stir crap, I’m just becoming very frustrated. I’ve been playing Halo online for about 5 years now and really enjoy most the playlists, but now I find myself not able to play my favorite playlist due to the fear of being banned and it sucks.

I can see why individual GT’s would be banned, but why the Console from earning credits? My son and his mom were playing, he’s OK, she’s terrible! At some point he probably betrayed her or she didn’t get any kills. Him and I sign on for a bit of MM today, and get the ‘console banned from earning credits’ message.

How long does a console ban last? It’s our first time banned.

Thanks to the community…

The main reason it bans the console as well is because you are meant to be banned, as in, not gain credits at all, making a new account to bypass it is not what you are meant to do, so they ban the console to make sure you don’t.

And the first ban usually last between 24-48 hours.

From what I have heard, and I don’t know for a fact… The betrayl options come up dependent on how often you betray, and how many times. I betray someone once every like 20-30 games, I have only been booted once out of the last like 6 betrayals. And earlier I was playing with my brother and he ran in front of a sticky. So I had 2 betrayals that day, the 2nd got me booted. I normally don’t get an option to boot either, but I’m not too concerned, cause after someone betrays a 2nd or 3rd time they’ll get dropped. What is fun, is let the betrayal message come up with the option to boot, and let it go for a little, let’s the person think they got away with it, then boot them…

Anyway, to be totally honest the quit ban isn’t too big of a deal, I was on one once, and I got dropped from a firefight game, and got a 10 min ban. It sucks but if you go long enough without quiting it goes away.

My xbox account had been hacked and while it was hacked it also got perm banned from halo3. I called up xbox and they gave me my account back but it is still banned from halo3. I want my account unbanned plesae. Gamertag: DESTRUCTION i

Thanks to all for your responses. It’s always good for kids to learn a lesson early about the do’s and don’ts of gaming. Don’t mind being banned at all…action=consequence. First time in months he’s playing something else other than Halo

On a side note, perhaps there can be some sort of area in future Halo versions that allows for players to ‘show off’ or ‘train’ with parents/grandparents/newbies without risking a ban.

Perhaps someone can clarify if ‘Custom Game’ activities also apply? My son’s favorite??..Juggernaut on Powerhouse as he beats the crap out of his mother for 10 minutes…0 Kills for her…fun for him!

My Gamer tag is TA0666 and my console and account have been banned from earning credits for two weeks. I’d like to know why please.
edit: After further reveiw, I think i should post on the Custom Challenge Ban thread)

I personally think it’s stupid to get banned for not getting kills, What if your new to halo or video games or maybe you have a guest, that sucks at halo, basically your getting banned for not being very good at halo. Isn’t there a better way to see if someone’s afk, like how many shots you made or if you were moving.

So, I just bought an Xbox (again) about a week ago and the only game I bought… was Halo. Why? Because I am a complete Halo nut! Bungie is my favorite company… Well, Idk… was I guess is more of the word, maybe. Are they really the ones doing all this Multiplayer Temp Ban?? Or is it this new 343?? And is it really true that if you don’t get enough kills you will get booted as well?!? Idk what happened but, I do know… this is… you know what. I have been a loyal fan from Combat Evolved to Halo Wars and had to sell my xbox in hard times being the only reason I stopped playing (the ONLY reason I bought an xbox is for Halo). I have spent hundreds over the years collecting Halo merch and I cannot believe… That WE the PLAYERS would get banned for accidental kills, while people can run up on us, gun us down, and then not give us the option to boot. And what’s worse… Is if you have these accidents… you are penalized for it with a 10 min ban from the matchmaking. Really?!? If that is the case… I just want to know… So I can sell this xbox and the rest of my Halo stuff… cause, that’s crap and makes this xbox worthless to me!! :frowning:

My account and console has been ban for getting credits for about a week now and was wondering when or if I would be able to collect credits again. please and thank you.

No custom games do not count towards a ban. Thats actually the purpose, for like what your wife and son use. To have fun, and not have to worry about getting banned.
