Why Did I Get Banned - The Official Thread

> I Turned Xbox Live on when i was on Reach and i noticed all of my Daily Challenges were reset. Is this a bug?!? And will i get banned for Re-Doing them if i have already done them?

Nope, you will not get banned for doing them again, 99% of the time, the server hasn’t loaded your Challenge progress, which is why challenge resetting is possible.

If you do the challenges again just once, you will not be banned, abuse it and manage to do it multiple times and you will be banned.

> It’s called common sense. Why should you earn credits for not playing the game? Technically, that’s taking advantage of a glitch in the credit payout system. One that you fully took advantage of on numerous occasions by AFK’ing in numerous games. If memory serves me, taking advantage of known exploits is bannable… if not mentioned by Bungie, it is most definitely acknowledged by Xbox LIVE’s Terms of Use that you accept to create an account.

> Ranking up without actually playing would be considered exploiting a bug to gain unfair advantage. You are gaining credits without playing. Doesn’t matter whether you did this before it was “officially” listed as a rule. It’s a breach of your Xbox LIVE Terms of Use. Would you prefer being reported to Xbox LIVE instead of just losing the ability to earn cR in Halo : Reach?
>
> Lack of common sense is no defense… neither is ignorance.

If you are going by that, then credit boosting with the Target Locator on ONI would be ban worthy as well. It’s definitely abusing a bug. But it’s not bannable. I still agree, AFKers should be banned, but not people who get 0-2 kills a game in MM. Reporting people doesn’t help either. I’ve played 15 games with the same Afker before, and I reported him after every game anddddd Nothin’ happened to them.

Also, Some people just honestly suck. My friend’s wife got 1 kill in a game and got a 2 day ban. Same game I watched her drop down behind someone and then run because they “scared” her. She’s also the Only person I know that I can’t play Halo with because of her awfulness lol.

It is not a bug, you get credits for time in a match by default.

> It is not a bug, you get credits for time in a match by default.

… You don’t get squat for time spent in a campaign game… Do you even know what i’m talking about? lol

In January they had a sticky thread at the top of the forums that dealt with this, but since I can not find the link, I did find another thread dealing with this, in which numerous times in the thread Achronos refrences the Banhammer information(it is dated 1/13/2011 meaning well before you started AFKing since you claim to have started just before the resets in May). Here is the link with people protesting threads:

http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=55263917&postRepeater1-p=3#55279674

The third post from the bottom has a post from Achronos linking directly to the Banhammer information that was updated for Reach, here is that link:

Not sure how to activate the links in here, but hopefully you are competent enough to cut and paste as I did. This page specifically states some of the offenses to get you banned are but not limited to (legal speak meaning they can ban you for more than what is on the list) “Skill, EXP, or Credit Boosting, deleveling, idling through games, cheating, habitual quitting or any other type of unsociable and unsportsmanlike behavior.”

I think at this point all your questions of proof have been answered. The information has been on Bungie.net for a while meaning this again still boils down to you are looking for an exception based on ingnorance. You violated both xbox live terms of service and Bungies rules for the game. I think it is time to move on. You have been told you will not get the credits back by Total Sellout, along with Little Moa and myself pointing to flaws in your argument of lack of knowledge.

thank you for posting. it was very incentive. Im glad I read it all.

Target Locator on Oni Sword Base is in the pool of daily challenges. I know I’ve seen it come up at least 2-3 times. The commendation system in campaign is also different than in Matchmaking. Once you max out your commendation in campaign, you earn maybe 1 credit. It’s hardly worth the time to keep doing it… which is why I have to laugh hysterically at the people that have done it 100+ times just to earn a handful of credits. They’re actually earning credits at a slower pace than if they actually just played a game of firefight… but at least they’re actively playing the game… unlike AFK’ers trying to gain an advantage without playing the game.

There is a major difference there.

That’s what he’s saying dude, you were punished for something they didn’t think they actually had to post about until after you did it.

You actively sought out to ruin other players experiences, they shouldn’t have to tell you NOT to do that.

They should be able to punish you at anytime for it.

They DID punish you for it.

There’s nothing left to discuss.

Ignorance is not an excuse.

> If you are going by that, then credit boosting with the Target Locator on ONI would be ban worthy as well.

Here’s the exact challenge which pretty much encourages people to use that “bug” as well…

> Eyes in the Sky Kill 10 enemies with the Designator in ONI on Heroic. 1000 cR May 29, 2011

Everyone keeps saying I was ruining other players’ experience, but I was NOT EVEN IN ANY PVP LOBBIES AT ALL.

> Everyone keeps saying I was ruining other players’ experience, but I was NOT EVEN IN ANY PVP LOBBIES AT ALL.

It doesn’t matter if you’re in versus matchmaking or not. If you don’t want to play, don’t enter matchmaking. Going AFK during any Arcade or Limited Firefight game robs me of an opportunity to play with active players, especially since when I play… I try to die as few times as possible and to make it to the bonus round. Any person that I see that goes AFK for any amount of time during a game of Firefight automatically gets a poor review and reported for cheating on Xbox LIVE. I don’t care what the excuse is. Don’t enter into a game if there’s any doubt you can finish it… and stop trying to earn credits without playing.

Earning credits without playing also ruins the experience of the community. Ranks should be earned by actually playing the game the whole time. People like you only cheapen the ranks even further.

So yesterday something weird happened. I logged on to Reach and in an attempt to earn the Clip It. Share it. Challenge, I removed the video on my file share so I could then repost it. However, when I went to repost it, a box showed up saying “Bad Name: The creator of this file has been banned from Xbox Live”, after a brief panic, I decided to test this. I entered matchmaking without a problem, so obviously I can’t be banned from XBL. Any ideas what’s wrong?

this issue has been cropping up a lot lately. it appears something is up with the MS censor filter because a LOT of seemingly random stuff is keeping people from uploading to their file share. if you search, there’s a couple other threads on it, i know there’s one in general chatter, probably back a few pages now.

so in short, it’s not you, you haven’t been banned. it’s your GT for some reason. apparently “nerd” violates MS’s TOS somehow.

I got console ban from reach in late November last year for having the Bungie service tag. I understand that modding my service tag was wrong (even though I didn’t mod it, I simply used a USB keyboard) but I have been console ban from reach for about 9 months now and I think that’s enough punishment for such a minor offense. I honestly see no reason as to why the punishment for something this irrelevant is so drastic.

Also, before people flame about how I shouldn’t have done it or how its still “modding”, I can understand what you are trying to say. But, something as small as this shouldn’t be treated as a major crime. I can understand getting a level reset or something of that degree to teach a lesson but c’mon, a console ban…? How would you feel if you paid $150 for the legendary edition and got ban from it for something this ridiculous?

So, to sum it up, I would like to know if it is at all possible to get my console and profile unban from Reach matchmaking.

good luck, but from what i’ve been reading, its not gonna happen buddy. sorry

> would you feel if you paid $150 for the legendary edition and got ban from it for something this ridiculous

Look at the Bright side - At least you can still play with the dolls

May I ask about this ‘Bungie’ Service Tag?

I have never heard of them getting an exclusive tag for themselves.

You should be thankful your console didn’t get banned from Xbox LIVE. What you did is a breach of the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use.

seriously bro, if you cant understand that your infraction falls under “unsportsman like conduct” then there is just no speaking with you. Do you really think you can hit a top of the line video game company with technicalities like “well, it wasnt technically against the rules at the moment that i did it.” Your statement with murder and the law is a matter of precident, which in turn sets a standard for the future. In that subject you also fail. You were not the first one to be banned for pulling that basura, and you will not be the last. Ride your ban out and just understand that you getting banned needed to happen. Just like all the other fools on here crying about the “smallest little thing.” The “smallest little thing” is still a broken rule. If the rules are unclear, then READ THEM. I know you did not, becuase if you read the maticulous contracts that you signed when you started XBL and then Halo, you would sit quietly and mark your calender instead of trying to argue the pants off Admins here. Laywers write these contracts and they did not leave a loop hole in it so little old you can dance around spawn while the rest of team noble take the heads off the covenant army. Stop trying to Debo Total Sellout into reinstating your account, not gonna happen. And thank god for that, and all the bans here. It gives me faith in the Halo community. Its only like 1.5% of players who have gotten a serious ban and by the looks of this thread, i feel like i can taste the tears. Clearly no mistakes were made, look at the way you guys are crying. Go play duty, try your afk basura there and see where it gets you. Keep it up and your only gonna be allowed to play Hexic HD…

Hey! Im a recently signed up player to Xbox Live. I was recently playing online at a friends house when suddenly a message (in the middle of a game) appeared to all of us saying that we could no longer earn credits. My friend and his brother have both gotten rid of theirs I think… Unfortunatly I have not. I just had a couple of questions to ask about this… I havent betrayed anyone whilst playing or been AFK, I just had these two questions to ask:

  1. I wondered why I have been banned from earning credits/leveling?
  2. How long will the ban last? - Ive only had Xbox Live 5 days and I want to be able to get my level up again ):

Thank you (:
