Was it the difference in FPS or was it from the game not having Aim Acceleration?
It was Suave Smooth
Nostalgia?
That certainly played a major part in it. Play Halo CE and 2, then play Halo 3 and Reach; you’ll notice a significant difference in 3 and reach due to the aim acceleration. Competitive gaming is dying on the console because it’s being dumbed down and made easier to play in order to sell as many copies as possible…its a shame.
Cause you relied on two things back then, Your strafing and your aim. Hopefully Halo 4 will bring this back.
It’s aim acceleration, which is exactly why Halo 4 needs an option to turn it off.

Or at least give us an option to turn it off. My bad just realized that’s exactly what you said.
> Was it the difference in FPS
There isn’t a difference in FPS. The console versions of every Halo game run at 30fps.
Halo 2 arguably had a more stable framerate than the others, but under most conditions it’s the same.
> or was it from the game not having Aim Acceleration?
That’s definitely part of it. Halo’s 1 and 2 also both use very high movement acceleration, so you adjust speed a lot less sluggishly.
The clean aesthetics probably also contribute, both visually and in audio design.
Yeah, while some games offer the user the option to remove aim assist and such crutches completely, it seems Halo does the opposite. Slower movement, lower jump height, more aim acceleration, heavy bullet magnetism etc.
Instead of encourage the player to improve, (Bungie) they encouraged you to play worse, to make the game easier to newbies and hence cater to a larger market, or so they thought. Instead they killed off what made Halo good one piece at a time, from competitive and challenging to random, simple and dumb. I just hope 343i once again gives the power to the gamers to decide their own faith online, without crutches.
I know what you mean halo 2 was by far one of the smoothest games I’ve played this millennia…
Mainly because nobody complained over every small detail put into a game back in 2004, these days, they see a feature in a video/trailer and it all hell breaks loose, it seems the gaming community was a lot more mature back in 04.

Woah, let’s remove those nostalgia goggles. Halo 2 was severely hated. Remember Halo2sucks.com? No? Remember this video? The original was taken down, but before that many people posted about how much Halo 2 sucked. In my opinion, Halo 2 is the best, but it wasn’t all peaches and cream when it came to the community.

In reference to these days, everyone wants it back, in many peoples eyes, including mine, the glitches is what made Halo 2 one of the best halo games to date, things like the button combos were hard to master but once you pulled it off, you deserved the kill.
It added a whole new playing field which newer games lacked.

I agree, this is what I like about older titles such as Half Life 1, Marathon, the first two Halo games, etc.

The only problem I had with H2 had to be the lunge (excluding sword lunge which was good for sword flying).
This made Uprising LASO very annoying. I sometimes came to a complete stop right before getting an assassination on a Brute.
It also made my AI collection on The Arbiter annoying because of how I would be moving a supply case and end up punching an AI that was right next to it.
Another problem is the hog and Ghost. Neither of them have bumpy physics making the hog difficult to maneuver into a position I want (I often block the driver seat when exiting a hog to stop marines from driving off with it) and making it difficult to navigate through obstacles with the Ghost (I blame the wings. If the wing hits something, including a biped, the Ghost gets disrupted). The Spectre has good traction but it suffers from a lower hover height (likewise the Ghost), making it difficult to climb up things.
Finally, the friendly AI tend to proceed on without me. If I leave the room for ammo, I’ll come upon dead bodies.

People wanted a perfect experience of competition. Now we have to fight tooth and nail for anything competitive and not noob-friendly at all. Armor abilities, loadout, custom loadouts, super bullet magnetism, ridiculous maps, unbalanced gametypes, bloom (nobody even likes this, why is being added again?),ect. I always thought Halo was good because everyone started with equal weapons, equal maps , and nobody had any sort of advantage. Halo Reach shot that to the ground, and Halo 4 I guess is just going to kill it off once and for all.
Because Halo 2 is the best Halo.
