Is it because they think that their upcoming title “Destiny” will become way more popular than the Halo franchise? What are your thoughts on the subject?

Their contract expired and they didn’t want to continue?

It’s because the Halo community was complaining too much on how their Halo games were, and they just got tired of it so they left.

All roads lead to Destiny.

Maybe after 10 years of Halo (if not more) they’re a little tired and want to try something else?

Destiny and Halo are not competing, you can own, love and play both.

Actually, IMO, they were shocked and hurt by the backlash Halo 3 players gave them due to Bungies innovative and progressive Halo Reach…

They did not enjoy working for only microsoft so after they’re contract as finished don’t be surprised when they do the same with destiny Bungie already said they’re only going to do Destiny for 10 years like Halo so every 10 years expect a new series from bungie

Bungie never left anyone? They just broke off from Microsoft and are now an independent developer. They answer to nobody but themselves now.

Since Microsoft owned the Halo franchise, Bungie let them keep it and continue to make money from it. Thus 343i was born.

Probably because they didn’t know what to do with Halo after Reach because Halo 3 was “Finish The Fight” not “Finish The Fight… kind of”.

They got sick of Halo and the community.

I don’t know about you guys, but if I worked on the same franchise for over a decade, I’d want to go and do something new after a while. It’s not that they hate Halo, Microsoft, or the community, they just wanted to move on to something else and grow as a company.

Bungie had been working on Destiny (I’ve already bought a Destiny t-shirt) since before Halo 3: ODST. They sold the Halo IP to Microsoft for a boatload of money because they felt they were done with that universe. They’re still around, Bungie.net is still active, they haven’t left, you have.

Bungie was done with the halo series after 3 but they had a deal with Microsoft so they were forced to make Reach and ODST. Bungie abandoned the halo series. there wouldn’t be a Halo 4 if 343i didn’t take up the mantle.

I don’t see why that would hurt them because it was the same kind of backlash Halo 2 players gave them over Halo 3 and what CE player gave over Halo 2. This community loves to yoink.

Will 343i take over Destiny once Bungie’s done with it?

lol/jk

In one of their vidocs they said their contract with Microsoft was similar to a contract with the devil, and one of my friends that works at bungie said that they are a pain in the yoink! to work with… They didn’t really intend on leaving us.

Bungie left because they’ve been making Halo for 10 years (more like 20 if you count Marathon which had many similarities).

Not much more to it, nor do I blame them. Bungie have passion for what they do, they make games because they love making games, not because they love catering to specific people.

If I contracted you to do the same thing as a company for 10 years you can guarantee you’d get bored and want to try something new.

It has nothing to do with the community backlash or selling out to Microsoft. When MS Game Studios and Bungie first shook hands and produced Halo Microsoft threw bucket loads of cash into the development of the game and that was in return to Bungie who agreed to keep the title exclusively on the Xbox platform. Bungie helped Microsoft sell an aweful lot of Xboxs. Then with the launch of Halo 2 they also helped Microsoft sell millions of XBL live subscriptions almost overnight. So when Bungie started to think beyond Halo 3 and what to do the next there were some at Bungie who wanted to take Halos development to the Playstation as quite rightly thought they were missing millions in sales from the Halo series just being exclusive to the Xbox. Some thought that MS owed them a favour for how they helped launch the Xbox and XBL. Alas Microsoft did not see things that way and wanted to keep Halo on the Xbox only. Bungie looked at titles like COD and how much they outsold Halo and realised the buckets of cash that could of been theirs.

Needless to say that wont make that mistake again.
